Kalsubai is the highest peak of the Sahyadris in Maharashtra.

Katraj Ghat: the Route which connects Pune to the South Maharashtra. Both, Katraj Tunnel and Sinhagad are connected by a single mountain range of Sahyadri Mountains and it travels through a series of mountains by crossing cross 13-15 hills top to reach Sinhagad.

Sinhagad: It is a fortress located roughly 30 km southwest of the city of Pune, India. Previously called Kondhana, the fort has been the site of many important battles, mostly famous for the battle of the great warrior Tanaji Malusare in 1670 and then it is renamed into “Sinhagad”. It was also strategically located at the center of a string of other forts such as Rajgad, Purandar and Torna. Perched on an isolated cliff of the Bhuleswar range of the Sahyadri Mountains, it is situated on a hill rising 1312 m above sea level. Given natural protection by its very steep slopes, the walls and bastions were constructed at only key places; it has two gates – the Kalyan Darwaza in the south-east and the Pune Darwaza in the north-east.

History:
Sagargad's history is closely tied to that of the other coastal garrisons in the vicinity of Alibaug - Khanderi, Colaba, Revdanda, Chaul, and Underi. During the course of time, the fort's list of keepers has included the Satvahan, Moryas from the Konkan, Chalukyas, Shilahara Dynasty, Bahamanis, the Sultan of Gujarat, Nizamshahi of Ahmednagar, Portuguese, Marathas, Mughals and the British. According to legend, a subterranean escape tunnel runs from Sagargad to the Colaba island fort, several kilometres away in Alibag.
Apart from Shivaji, who surrendered this fort along with several others in the Treaty of Purandar in 1655, the fort's most dynamic occupant has got to be Kanhoji Angre, the legendary Maratha admiral who was assigned the task of patrolling the Konkan coast, and whom the British dreaded and labelled a pirate, because he kept attacking and capturing British, Dutch and Portuguese vessels on their way to or from their Asian colonies. He even had a base in The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, from where he would mastermind these excursions.Closer home, he administered the area and maintained a naval force which methodically issued papers (dastak), authorizing vessels to ply his waters. This was at a time when a struggle for supremacy flared between the Portuguese with a stronghold in Goa, the British East India Company, the Muslim Siddhis, who controlled patches like the Janjira island fort and supported the Mughal emperor, who himself was constantly being pushed to the corner by the Marathas, with their guerrilla warfare.
Angre could neither be trounced nor kept under control, even after the British and Portuguese decided to fight him jointly. He reportedly died in 1729, and remained undefeated. The Indian Navy has honored him by naming the Western Naval Command headquarters after him.

Shivaji Maharaj was born on Shivneri fort in 1630, when Shahaji Maharaj was in a distress. Shivaji Maharaj left this fort in 1632 and it went into the hands of Mughals in 1637. In 1650 the local fishermen refuted against them. The folks lost to the rulers and were assassinated cruelly on the fort. In 1678 the Marathas raided Junnar, but attempt to capture Shivneri was futile. Shahu Maharaj brought the fort under his control forty years later. Later it was under the control of Peshwas.

The fort has a significant shape, like an arrowhead, pointing towards the north. Someone has described this as an arrow pointing towards the tyrant Moguls of north, threatening about Shivaji Maharaj. It is surrounded by about 7-8 forts in the region, and was built to guard the city of Junnar and the ancient route of Naneghat. From the top of the fort we can have a view of Lenyadri, a famous pilgrimage and the Giant Meteoric Radio Telescopes of Narayangaon.

Rules and regulations.
Do understand that we do not arrange picnics. It follows that if one seeks luxury and absolute comfort then we can hardly help them.

Sa-Hi Trekkers believe in being one with nature and that is possible only when we shed all city slicker attitudes. Of course by that we do not suggest that one should be ready for any kind of nonsense.
Utmost care is taken to ensure safety of the group and care is taken that no one is inconvenienced because of factors within our control.
We do expect our Sa-hi friends to understand group dynamics and leave at home their individuality. They should be prepared to share and care. That makes and all the physical and mental exhaustion forgettable and the trek itself become unforgettable! Trust us on this.
Now some basic codes:
Respect nature.
1) No littering! Carry your own trash. If you are found littering then we will request you to pick it up. Friends, it is really not nice to throw garbage around and it only reflects upon us. Will we do this to our own houses?
REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLE!
2) Do not disturb the flora and fauna. No making pretty bouquets of grabbed flowers and blooms. No feeding and intimidating birds and other animals. Think how you would feel if someone barges into your house and threatens you. The jungle is THEIR home. So, Capital N O= NO!
3) Remember, the mountain has own mind. Beware and do not make the mistake of taking him for granted. It sounds weird but it’s true. Never take nature as granted.
For your own safety
1) The organizers and you yourself are equally responsible for your safety. We cannot take the blame for injuries or inconveniences arising out of actions outside the organizers instructions and acts of nature.
2) One must understand that the group leader is responsible for the entire group and may have to take some tough decisions at times. If one expects a memorable experience with us then we expect full cooperation and discipline. To sum up, the leader’s decision will be final and binding on all Sahi Trekkers.
3) Finally, the non-arguable part. Smoking and other forms of tobacco use and alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited during trek.

Safety measure is to be followed on strict basis, anybody not following will be discarded on the spot.

Rules and regulations.

Do understand that we do not arrange picnics. It follows that if one seeks luxury and absolute comfort then we can hardly help them. ;)
Offbeat sahyadri believe in being one with nature and that is possible only when we shed all city slicker attitudes. Of course by that we do not suggest that one should be ready for any kind of nonsense.
Utmost care is taken to ensure safety of the group and care is taken that no one is inconvenienced because of factors within our control.
We do expect our offbeater friends to understand group dynamics and leave at home their individuality. They should be prepared to share and care. That makes and all the physical and mental exhaustion forgettable and the trek itself becomes unforgettable! Trust us on this.

Now some basic codes.
Respect nature.
1)    Absofreakinglutely no littering! Carry your own trash. If you are found littering then we will request you to pick it up. Friends, it is really not nice to throw garbage around and it only reflects upon us. Will we do this to our own houses? J.
REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!
2)    Do not disturb the flora and fauna. No making pretty bouquets of grabbed flowers and blooms. No feeding and intimidating birds and other animals. Think how you would feel if someone barges into your house and threatens you. The jungle is THEIR home. So, Capital N O= NO!

3)    Remember, the mountain has a mind of his own. Beware and do not make the mistake of taking him for granted. It sounds weird but it’s true.

With fellow trekkers.
1)    It is fun to interact and get to know people from different walks of life. Feel free to take the
opportunity
 to expand your social circles.
2)    Share water and food. Nothing else is a better ice breaker than being offered water or a bite of your sandwich!
3)    Care for your fellow trekkers. It is not nice to be self centered and unamicable.

For your own safety
1)    The organizers and you yourself are equally responsible for your safety. We cannot take the blame for injuries or inconveniences arising out of actions outside the organizers instructions and acts of nature.
2)    Simply put, stay with the group. Do not rush far too ahead or lag too behind. We understand that everyone has a different stamina and we try to keep the group bound together.
3)    Do not wander off from the main trail. Whenever there is no established trail, strictly stay with the group. Be within the sight of the person ahead of you and the one behind you. It helps.
4)    One must understand that the group leader is responsible for the entire group and may have to take some tough decisions at times. If one expects a memorable experience with us then we expect full cooperation and discipline. To sum up, the leader’s decision will be final and binding on all offbeaters.
5)     Finally, the non arguable part. Smoking and other forms of tobacco use and alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited.

!!14th-15th June 2014!!

Taare Zameen Par…!!
Short info :
Prabalgad :
Prabalgad Fort, also known as Kalavantin Durg (Kalavantin’s Fort), is located between Matheran and Panvel in the Indian State of Maharashtra, at an elevation of 2,300 feet in the Western Ghats. It was built at the pinnacle of the rocky plateau very close to Matheran. Previously, the fort was known as Muranajan until it was taken over and renamed by the Maratha forces under Shivaji’s rule.
This fort can be approached via chilling steep climb. The steps leading up to the fort were cut into the rocks of the hill. There are no safety rails on the edge and no ropes on the wall to grab on to. The hardest part is the descent, especially if you have vertigo.
The Fireflies :
MUMBAI TRAVELLERS is all set to host one of the most eye-catching outing of this season – THE FIREFLIES FESTIVAL
Pre-monsoon climate is the ideal period for fireflies and glow-worms for mating and in pursuit of the mate, hundreds of fireflies gather together on a tree displaying their bio-luminescent lights in the dark nights. Duration: 15 th  June,2014  ( Journey Starts on 14th June 11.45 pm)
Mode of Transport: Private Transport
Meeting point:  14th  June,  Opp. Dreams mall near Bhandup (w) Railway Station
at 11.30 pm

Brief Introduction about Trek:

FORT:- HARIHAR
Type: Hill fort
Height :1120mts - 3676ft
Fort Range : Nashik-Trimbakeshwar
Grade : Medium

The fort of Harihar, lying on Trimbak range, was of significant importance in earlier periods, as there used to be a route crossing this range connecting Maharashtra to Gujarat.
Trimbak range has spreaded its arms to the north of Igatpuri and west of Nasik. It is divided mainly in two parts, with forts of Basgad, Utvad, hill of Fani, Harihar and Trimbakgad on one part while the forts of Anjaneri and Hargad on the other. Vaitarna is the main river in this region. The fort appears to be rectangular in shape from its base village.Places to see on fort:While climbing the fort, we come across a rock-sheet, which has got steps carved in it. Also many grooves have been carved here for additional support. After climbing these steps, we get upto the entrance door. There is a cavern ahead of this door. Again we come across few steps after a short distance walk from this cavern. On climbing these steps we reach to the main entrance door of this fort. The fort has got a tapering plateau with a raised level in the middle. Door is located at the edge of this fort, but the way to this door has now got blocked. There is a small temple of Lord Hanumana and Lord Shiva on the plateau. A small pond is there in front of this temple. Water from this pond can be used for drinking. There are five cisterns along one side of the palace, one of which has water suitable for drinking.
