Breakfree Journeys goes on a birthday trek to Jambhulmal! - 18th August 2013

Located deep within the forest of Northern Bombay lies the highest point of the city, a well guarded enclave named Jambhulmal! A restricted area of the SGNP it is one of the best kept secrets of the city! The trek to this point begins from Kanheri Caves and goes right up to the peak, where splendid views of the entire forest await you.

Visible from top are also the lakes of Tulsi and Vihar along with other parts of the city! The trek is easy and passes through the core area of the forest. This enables a fantastic interaction with Mother Nature and her wonders. A wide variety of flora and fauna can be seen enroute. Some birding blogs recommend Jambhulmal for spotting raptors too!

The plan is simple

Gather at 0700 hours at SGNP, Borivali Main Gate on Sunday 18th August

From here, Omni vans will transport us to the caves from where the trek will begin. It's about a 2 hour climb to the top.

We should be back at the main gate by 1600 hours tops.

Cost: The total incidental cost should be anywhere between 300-400 including the official guide charges provided by SGNP(150-200), entry fees (33) and travel cost (70 to and fro)

This will be a Gift-Economy trip, - a Pay-What-You-Like trip and you may pay us accordingly or nothing at all!

To confirm your seat do call us up on 9820023362!

Kindly Note:

1. We recommend Action Trekking Shoes as most other gym/sports shoes give away to the rough terrain.

2. Carry at least 2 litres of water with you along with some dry snacks, fruits and a pair of change.

3. Consumption of Alcohol, Narcotic substances and cigarettes is prohibited and may lead to possible expulsion from the trek, and an early expulsion from Natural Habitat.

4. Windcheaters are recommended, avoid carrying umbrellas.

About the Place :
| Type : Hill Valley | Height : 2065 ft | Grade : Medium+|

The valley of Ulhas river springs to life in monsoons with hundreds of streams and waterfalls tumbling over the rich green mountainsides of Khandala. We are trekking till the starting point of Ulhas River where we get a wonderful waterfall. We will spend one hour at this waterfall in the valley of Khandala

The area is a popular trekking destination for trekkers from Mumbai and Pune, its only and different of its own kind because on this trek when you start a trek you first Descend in the valley and when you finish trek you climb up, kind of Opposite of regular treks where you first climb and then descend, all in all its fun because there is water everywhere, right from the beginning till you finish, and yah there is huge water fall down in the valley.
Friends, you all are requested to carry packed lunch for the trek as there are no villagers and proper hutments for arranging food, water etc. Also there's nothing available on top except a mind blowing scenery, beautiful waterfall, thrill of climb & Loads of water. So do carry decent amount of eatables, and personal medicines as required.

Dear Friends,

Kalpavihar Adventure has arranged a trek to Sudhagad with UmberKhinda - Unhere Hot water springs and Ballaleshwar Ganapati (Pali)
on 24 - 25th August.

http://picasaweb.google.com/ vaishalindia/ MoonlightTrekToSudhagadSarasga d?feat=directlink

Sudhagad (1935 ft)
Sudhagad is one of the ancient forts in Sahyadri. It was the glory of Bhor state. Sudhagad was called as ‘Bhorapgad’. Sudhagad is a huge fort. It is called as the replica of Raigad. Sudhagad was included in ‘Swarajya’ in 1648. Shivaji Maharaj renamed Bhorapgad as Sudhagad. Later Sambhaji met Akbar (the rebellious son of Aurangjeb) in the ‘Pachchapur village’ situated at the base of this fort. Annaji Datto, Balaji Aavji Chitnis, his son Aavji Ballal and Hiroji Pharjand were all important persons in ‘Ashta-Pradhan Mandal’ of Shivaji Maharaj. Sambhaji has killed all of them in ‘Parli’ village near Sudhagad There are many lakes on the fort. also a palace of Pant Sachiv on the fort. There is a temple of Bhorai Devi, Different kind of medicinal plants and trees can be seen in the surrounding forest. Bhoreshwar temple, Pachchapur Darwaaja, Takmak Tok of Sudhagad, Dindi Darwaaja are the another Fascinating Spots.

Battle of Umberkhind :
This area is steeped in the history of Shivaji Maharaj, who trapped his enemies in these ravines.
An Uzbek general, Kartalab Khan, was sent by Shaista Khan on a mission to attack and reduce the number of forts under Shivaji’s control in the Konkan region on 3 February 1661. He left his camp near Pune with 30,000 troops. This time the Mughals did not march openly and took circuitous back country routes, as they sought to surprise Shivaji. But instead Shivaji surprised them at a pass known as ‘Umber Khind’ (in a dense forest, near present-day), and attacked them from all sides. Marathas hidden in the dense forest executed a well co-ordinated ambush attack on the Mughal army.
The battle is known for the strategic manner in which Chhatrapati Shivaji deployed his forces and rapid movement that his cavalry was able to achieve.

Unhere Hot Water Spring:
Just 1 km from Pali Ganesh Mandir is a hot water spring at village Uddhar. The water here is known for its medicinal sulphur content believed to cure even some skin ailments.

Sudhagad (1935 ft)
Sudhagad is one of the ancient forts in Sahyadri. It was the glory of Bhor state. Sudhagad was called as 'Bhorapgad'. Sudhagad is a huge fort. It is called as the replica of Raigad.  Sudhagad was included in 'Swarajya' in 1648. Shivaji Maharaj renamed Bhorapgad as Sudhagad. Later Sambhaji met Akbar (the rebellious son of Aurangjeb) in the 'Pachchapur village' situated at the base of this fort. Annaji Datto, Balaji Aavji Chitnis, his son Aavji Ballal and Hiroji Pharjand were all important persons in 'Ashta-Pradhan Mandal' of Shivaji Maharaj. Sambhaji has killed all of them in 'Parli' village near Sudhagad.
There are many lakes on the fort also a palace of Pant Sachiv on the fort.
An Uzbek general, Kartalab Khan, was sent by Shaista Khan on a mission to attack and reduce the number of forts under Shivaji's control in the Konkan region on 3 February 1661. He left his camp near Pune with 30,000 troops. This time the Mughals did not march openly and took circuitous back country routes, as they sought to surprise Shivaji. But instead Shivaji surprised them at a pass known as 'Umber Khind' (in a dense forest, near present-day), and attacked them from all sides. Marathas hidden in the dense forest executed a well co-ordinated ambush attack on the Mughal army.
The battle is known for the strategic manner in which Chhatrapati Shivaji deployed his forces and rapid movement that his cavalry was able to achieve.
Unhere Hot Water Spring :
Just 1 km from Pali Ganesh Mandir is a hot water spring at village Uddhar. The water here is known for its medicinal sulphur content believed to cure even some skin ailments.

Pratapgad Fort is a mountain fort built by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The fort is at a distance of 24 km from the hill station of Mahabaleshwar. The fort holds a sturdy view of coastal Konkan. The Bhavani Temple is the other place of interest.
Pratapgad consists of two forts - an upper fort built on the top of the hill and a lower fort immediately below on the south and the east. Surrounding areas can be easily taken guard from the fort on almost all the sides. The southern side is rocky while the eastern side has a strong outwork ending in the Afzal Buruj.
It is believed that Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja was blessed with a shining sword at the temple of Goddess Bhavani here. The historic battle between Chatrapati Shivaji and Afzal Khan, the commander of the Bijapur Sultanate fought here.

Breakfree Journeys goes trekking to Peb - 24th August!

$

Fort Vikatgad or Peb as it is known after the Goddess Pebi, is one of the lesser known attractions of the Matheran region. Often overshadowed by the hill station, this quaint mountain at Neral is home to one of the best climbs that the Sahyadris have to offer. In 2010, on a pilot trip, we experienced how adventurous this hike can be! Same year, we ascended the mountain through the rail tracks but this time, we will hike up from Neral and descend via Dasturi Naka.

The trail passes through some dense vegetation and at places is quite steep, tricky rocky portions have to be surpassed before one comes across a cave followed by a ladder that takes us right to the top. The fort premises are beautiful, offering scenic views of the valleys and peaks of the region including Nakhind, Prabalgad and Kalavantin. The descent is even more exciting as we walk up and down the V-shaped ridge separating Peb with Matheran. Further the trail skirts the mountain edge and then eventually joins the railway tracks of the Neral-Matheran toy train!

Here's the plan.

The Breakfree Bus will leave from Borivali(McDonald's) at 500 AM and proceed on the Western Express Highway passing through Goregaon-Andheri-Bandra(Kalanagar), further it will take the Sion-Chembur-Vashi-Panvel route to eventually join the Karjat road.

We will be very happy to pick you up from any point on the given route.

Cost: Rs. 1000 inclusive of Breakfast, Lunch, Transport and whole lotta fun!

A maximum of 18 participants will be allowed on the trek.

We normally do not accept advance payments and rely on your oral/written confirmation to block seats. Therefore it is advisable that you consult your prior commitments before confirming a seat rather than cancelling/backing out at the last moment much to inconvenience of everybody.

Kindly note:

1. We recommend Action Trekking Shoes; running/gym shoes normally give away to the tough terrain and become useless.

To confirm, do call us up on 09820023362
