Posted: 14 Dec 2015 11:00 PM PST "Raigad Adventure Club" ONE DAY TREK TO MAHULI ON 19th DECEMBER 2015 little info about fort: - Height: 2,815 feet Grade: Medium Time: 2.5 hrs from Mahuli, Base Village Location / District : Asangaon, Thane District. About Mahuli Fort: The creator of this fort is unknown. In 1485 this place came under rule of Malik Ahmed who was the founder of Nijamshahi. When Shahaji Raje became the secretary of Nijamshahi, Adilshahi and Mughals of Delhi together tried to end Nijamshahi. In the year 1635-36, in difficult circumstances Shahaji Raje transferred himself with Jijabai and Shivaji to Mahuli. Khan Jaman, son of Mahabat Khan beleaguered this fort. Shahaji Raje asked for help to Portuguese. They refused and Shahaji Raje surrendered himself. Shivaji took this fort from Mughals on 8 Jan 1658. In 1661 it was given back and was won again by Shivrai. In treaty of Purandar, in 1665, Marathas lost these forts again. The Moghal sardar Manohardas Gaud was the in charge of this fort. He did much construction on the fort. In Feb 1670, Shivaji Maharaj tried to conquer Mahuli, but failed. Thousand of Marathas were killed by Moghals. It was a bad blow to Marathas. Even after this victory, Manohardas Gaud, the chief of the fort gave up his position and a new chief Alveerdi Beg was appointed. On 16 June 1670, after two months, Moropant Pingle conquered the forts and Mahuli, Bhandargad and Palasgad became part of Swarajya. Mahuli Fort At 2815 ft, this is a popular trekking destination and a paradise for rock-climbers because of many nearby pinnacles with interesting names like Vazir, Vishnu, etc, given by the local trekking and climbing fraternity. This mountain complex is actually a group of two or more hills with common cols and pinnacles. It is the highest point in the Thane district. The forest surrounding Mahuli has been declared as a sanctuary. Once Shahaji Raje, father of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, had this fortress under his belt. Itinerary of the Trek : Take the Sl... Posted: 14 Dec 2015 08:52 PM PST Dear Friends We Invite You For Trek To Himalayas Chadar Trek Also Called Frozen River Trek 13th to 21st Feb 2016 The Chadar Trek or the Zanskar Gorge is a winter-trail in Zanskar region of Ladakh, in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The mountains are steep and in the winter snowfall closes many of the mountain passes and makes the few roads treacherous. Some villages become completely inaccessible between November and March. One method of accessing snow-bound villages during the winter is trekking on top of the ice of frozen rivers. The Chadar trek is one such route, connecting villages in the Zanskar valley (deep in the mountains) with Chilling (on the road to Leh) along the frozen Zanskar River. This route has been used for centuries for trade and transportation, and is most reliable in February when the ice is most stable. Now, We should make it clear that the Zanskar river is big and fast-flowing. For most of its length between Chilling and the Zanskar valley the river is confined within a steep canyon. If the idea of walking over frozen river ice with a large pack on your back and very cold rushing water a few inches below your feet is terrifying, then you are not alone. The hike from Chilling to the Zanskar valley takes more than a week, and at night porters usually sleep in caves in the canyon walls. This trek is considered as one of the most exciting and unique treks The 'Chadar' is a perfect example of the resourcefulness of the Ladakhis and their indomitable spirit against such daunting odds. The landscape acquires a pristine grandeur in winter as the trail enters into the gorge of the Zanskar where temperatures sometimes drop to –30 degree Celsius. You will be dropped by a vehicle at Chilling. The trek passes through a narrow valley filled with breath-taking views of ice-peaks and unexpected hanging icicles. You will spend the night at cave camps with the help of a born fire. Chadar means sheets and is used to refer to the trek a... Read more |
