Rules and regulations.

Do understand that we do not arrange picnics. It follows that if one seeks luxury and absolute comfort then we can hardly help them. ;)
Offbeat sahyadri believe in being one with nature and that is possible only when we shed all city slicker attitudes. Of course by that we do not suggest that one should be ready for any kind of nonsense.
Utmost care is taken to ensure safety of the group and care is taken that no one is inconvenienced because of factors within our control.
We do expect our offbeater friends to understand group dynamics and leave at home their individuality. They should be prepared to share and care. That makes and all the physical and mental exhaustion forgettable and the trek itself becomes unforgettable! Trust us on this.

Now some basic codes.
Respect nature.
1)   Absofreakinglutely no littering! Carry your own trash. If you are found littering then we will request you to pick it up. Friends, it is really not nice to throw garbage around and it only reflects upon us. Will we do this to our own houses? J.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!
2)   Do not disturb the flora and fauna. No making pretty bouquets of grabbed flowers and blooms. No feeding and intimidating birds and other animals. Think how you would feel if someone barges into your house and threatens you. The jungle is THEIR home. So, Capital N O= NO!

3)   Remember, the mountain has a mind of his own. Beware and do not make the mistake of taking him for granted. It sounds weird but it’s true.

With fellow trekkers.
1)   It is fun to interact and get to know people from different walks of life. Feel free to take the opportunity to expand your social circles.
2)   Share water and food. Nothing else is a better ice breaker than being offered water or a bite of your sandwich!
3)   Care for your fellow trekkers. It is not nice to be self centered and unamicable.

For your own safety
1)   The organizers and you yourself are equally responsible for your safety. We cannot take the blame for injuries or inconveniences arising out of actions outside the organizers instructions and acts of nature.
2)   Simply put, stay with the group. Do not rush far too ahead or lag too behind. We understand that everyone has a different stamina and we try to keep the group bound together.
3)   Do not wander off from the main trail. Whenever there is no established trail, strictly stay with the group. Be within the sight of the person ahead of you and the one behind you. It helps.
4)   One must understand that the group leader is responsible for the entire group and may have to take some tough decisions at times. If one expects a memorable experience with us then we expect full cooperation and discipline. To sum up, the leader’s decision will be final and binding on all offbeaters.

5)    Finally, the non arguable part. Smoking and other forms of tobacco use and alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited.

Regards,
Team OffBeat Sahyadri

Mount Mary Church
The Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount, more commonly known as Mount Mary Church, is a Roman Catholic Basilica located in Bandra, Mumbai. The Basilica is one of the most visited 'religious places of worship' in the city.

Every September, the feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on the first Sunday after 8 September, the birthday of the Virgin Mary. This is a week long celebration known as the Bandra Fair and is visited by thousands of people.

Bandstand
In its old glory the bandstand culture, was a popular attraction since the 17th century where different bands (army, navy, colleges etc.) play to the open sky for the entertainment of the visitors which at one point were the British. It was only due to this culture that these stretches came to be known as 'Bandstands'.

Around the 1950's there was a huge old wall at the Bandra Bandstand to which the sea waves use to crash, which eventually became a dump yard, untill around 1998 the Bandra Bandstand Residents (who have a trust by the same name BBRT for future ref.) along with the MP's fund decided to clean the dump and construct the Bandstand Promenade. It was the first of it kind promenade made for the citizens in a suburb by the residents initiative which included the Carter Road promenade too.

Dhodap Fort-------------------------------------------Trek Type: Hill TrekHeight: 4750 Feet above MSL (Approx)Grade: EasyEndurance 2.5/5Range: SaatmalaTrek Leader: Jaal & SaiInfo-------------------------------------------Till 1478 AD Chandwad Region was under Brahmin Rule. The earliest known mention of Dhodap is the somewhat doubtful notice of a fort named Dharab which surrendered to the Moghal general Allah-vardi Khan in 1635. From the Musalmans it passed to the Peshva who made it the chief of the Nasik forts. The great Ruler Raghobadada decided to revolt against Peshwas on the basis of this fort, but the Peshwas won and imprisoned Raghobadada in this very fort in 1778.When this fort came in the hands of British by 1818 Dhodap was visited by Captain Briggs. He described it as a large hill of the same basaltic nature with very strong artificial fortifications. The town, which was tolerably large, stood some hundred feet (30.48 metre) up the hill and the bottom of the perpendicular rock where there was much tableland. A road into Khandesh ran under the town and fort wall. There was a very strong gate to the town, and a gate to the pass on each side leading up from Khandesh and Gangathadi. Besides those in the fort, there were several guns in the town and on other parts of the tableland, pointing to the plain below. The roads to the town and over the pass were rough and steep on both sides, but not difficult to horses. The only way to the fort was through the town. The fort had many rock-cut storehouses and a large water-supply. There were thirty-seven militiamen or sibandis in the fort, and of military stores 1,590 matchlock balls, two pieces of lead, and a large quantity of gunpowder. The journey to the fort is through sparse green patch of trees. Adding beauty are the structures made in a combination of dressed stone and brickwork. Both side of fort are flanked with strong bastions. To the right of the entrance gateway is a stone inscription. To the west is a pa... Read more

There is a history behind the Jama Masjid built in Burhanpur. During 1421,when most of the population of Burhanpur lived to the north, Begum Ruquiyawife of king Azam Humayum built the first Jama Masjid inItwara Burhanpur also called as Bibi Ki masjid. But soon with the growth of the city, ruler Adil Shah Farooqi built a bigger Jama Masjid in the centreof the town, easily accessible to all the people living in Burhanpur. The construction of the Jama Masjid was started in 1590 and completed in 5 years. Burhanpur Jama Masjid is similar to the Jama Masjid in Delhi. Two identical minars (tower) of the mosque are quite a feature. At about 130 feet tall they loom all over the mosque. You can climb up right to the top by the spiral stairways. These minars are believed to be much taller than those of the Jama Masjid in Delhi.Mosque is 149 foot tall and 52 feet wide. So naturally, about 70 pillars support it. The huge hall of the mosque can hold as many as 500 people easily.

It is 259 Meters high from the base & 701 Meters above sea level. This is referred as the "Gateway to southern India" in the medieval history. It is consisting of three separate lines of constructions namely Asirgarh proper(Upper most part), Kamargarh andMalaygarhJami masjid & a Shiva temple are another architecture inside the fort. Asha devi mandir of Hindu Goddess Asha-devi is located on the hills of this village. In the vicinity of Asirgarh, there is a tomb of Shah Nomani Asiri, a saint, a believer of Sufism.Moti mahal, the burial place of Moti Begam, beloved of Shah Jahan is to the left of the fort and situated at the bank of Pandhar River.(* click on pi to enlarge)
Khundi Bhandara :

Mughal rulers had constructed 8 system of water works with a vision of supplying pure water to the city. This natural system had supplied water to Burhanpur city. These water works are specimen of unparalleled construction technique and may be counted as glorious relics of theMughal engineering ingenuity and skill which entailed enormous expenditure. This was constructed in the reign of Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb.
Shahi Qila :

Shahi Qila standing on the banks of river Tapti is a remarkable structure. The six storeyed structure rises over 175 feet from the river beds and housed over 4,00,000 soldiers. The palaces Diwan-i-Aam and Diwan-i-Khas were built on the terrace of the structure. The Raj Ghat was used as a base for the boats used by the members of the royal family.Shahi (Royal) Hammam : The Royal Hamam is situated in the Faruqui fort. It was constructed by Shah-Jahan, The Mughal Emperor. In the middle of the monument there is a octagonal bath-place. The bath-place was connected with the water system of Khuni Bhandara. Colorful Mughal Paintings can be seen on the ceiling of the monument.Motil Mahal : Moti mahal, the burial place of Moti Begam, beloved of Shah gJahan is to the left of the fort and situated at the bank of Pandhar River.

Iccha Devi Temple :  Ichha Devi Temple is situated at Ichha village. It is located 23 Kms from Burhanpur on Burhanpur-Edlabadmain road and dedicated to the Ichha Devi.Maratha Governor made a vow to the Goddess Ichha Devi (Ful-filler of desires) that if he got a son he would build a well and a temple for the Goddess. He built a well and a temple when his desires were fulfilled. An annual fair held in Chaitra Maas (First month of Hindu Calendar) is attended by thousands of pilgrims.
