Famous with two names, Kothaligad or Peth Fort is a medium graded trek that's been touched with the monsoon magic. There's waterfalls, streams & greenery around every corner we'll climb. 

The top has historical views of Kalwawantinicha Mahal, Nagfani, Siddhagad, Malanggad, Chanderi, Prabalgad, Manikgad, and it also holds fascinating caves carved out of huge rocks at the top.

Irshal means a pinnacle and gad means a fort. A fort that is unlikeliest to be known as a fort would be this one. Hardly found anywhere in History, Irshalgad may have been under the Maratha rule when Shivaji Maharaj captured the regions of Kalyan and Bhiwandi.
The trek chooses to be green and amuse us with its variety of flowers throughout the climbing route.

And this season, we are heading on a roadtrip to witness this amazing sight, 300 km from Bombay. We will be accompanied by Rajesh Sachdev, experienced naturalist and an expert on the flora and fauna of the Western Ghats. Currently he is documenting the biodiversity of the Matheran region. He will guide us around the array of flower beds that can be seen at Kaas. The crater it left behind eventually became a source of great myth and inspiration for many generations. Featured in many mythological tales, it continues to draw attention of those interested in astronomy, geology, natural flora and fauna of the region. This September, we invite you to accompany us as we head out on an expedition around the crater. This historic town of Lonar is not only home to the crater but also to some unique temples. The Daitya Sudan temple for instance built over 1000 years ago built features some fascinating sculptures in stone. We will be accompanied by a well known researcher on the lake – Mr. Bugdane who has been campaigning for conservation of the lake and has extensively documented it. Here's the plan! Depart from Bombay on the Devgiri Express at 9 PM on 19th September to arrive next morning at Jalna at 5. Take a taxi to Lonar, 2 hours away and check into the fantastically located MTDC property overlooking the crater. This is one of the difficult trek in Sahyadris and famous for its Rock patch. So get ready to enjoy one more thrilling experience with VRangers. Here we will be having approx 40ft rappelling while descending from cave as difficult getting down from same route.

Trek Schedule:

The journey starts with the Indrayani Express. People interested should catch this train from respective stations with ticket till lonavala station. (Plz get your respected stations at least half an hour earlier, as there might be a long queue for the tickets). From lonavala we’ll catch local train till kamshet. From Kamshet we will hire a jeep/tempo-pickup or travel by bus till Jambivali. We’ll visit Bahiri caves by covering the tough rock patch. While descending we’ll go to Vadhap then we’ll hire a jeep or rickshaw from Vadhap till Karjat.

08.00am: Get down at Lonavla station.

08.10am: Will catch the shuttle / local train for Kamsheth so please coordinate with leads for the same otherwise you will miss the train.

08.30am: At Kamshet station.

08.55am: Move towards Kamsheth ST stand.

10.00am: With B/F will reach to Jambhivali village.

10.15am: With intro will move towards Bahiri caves.

12.10 Pm: Descend in the thrilling valley.

12.45 Pm: Will start 90 degree climb towards cave with some thrilling scenes.

01.35 Pm: Reach to caves and will have Lunch here.

02.35 Pm: Will rappel down patch.

06.35 Pm: Back to valley Ascend  & move towards Vadap village.

07.40 Pm: Will back to karjat tentatively.

Some details of the tour:

The Konkan, also called the Konkan Coast or Karavali, the name given to a stretch of rugged and beautiful section of the western coastline of India from Ratnagiri to Mangalore. Konkan is also one of six divisions of the state of Maharashtra. The precise definition of Konkan varies, but most include Maharashtra's districts Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, the state of Goa, and the Kanara districts (North and South) of Karnataka.

Sindhudurga fort:

Huge sea rocks of Malvan has easefully shouldered the responsibility of two Forts Sindhudurg & Padmagad on their broad chest. The name of the fort is given to the Sindhudurg district. Tourist from all over the world visit through out the year to see this Maratha glory.

The fort was built with the help of huge rocks on the Kurte Island which amazes people & one appreciates imaginative power of Shivaji. In 1664 shivaji erected this fort on 44 acers of land. 

In Sindhudurg Fort there is 'Shri Shivarajeshwar temple' of King Shivaji. Also there are temples of Hanuman, Jarimari mandir and Goddess 'Bhavani Temple'. Impressions of shivaji's fingers prints found to be preserved here on one of the wall . Also lies, inside the fort worth seeing temples of Bhavanimata, Shambhu Mahadev, Jirimiri & Mahapurush. All are in good conditions.

Kille Nivati :

This dilapidated fort by the seashore impress upon the visitor by its range of rocks situated at its bottom. The rippling perennial springs here content one's mind. Fort also commands the fine view of Bhogwe beach.

Kille Nivati was constructed by great Maratha ruler Shivaji. He was such a visionary who had given proper attention at his naval force. He built many forts for the protection of his empire. From this fort, one can observe Bhogave's allevaing beach 

Tarkarli Beach :

Tarkarli is a narrow stretch of beach with pristine waters, located at the convergence of the Karli River and the Arabian Sea. It is 546 k.m. away from Mumbai, 6 kms. south of Malvan, on the west coast of India. This place has gained prominence because of its transparently clear seas, where on a fairly sunny day, one can see the sea- bed up to a depth of 20 feet. This beach can be rightly called as ‘Queen Beach’ of Sindhudurg.

Visit the Legendary Waterfall of India with Trek Mates India –  Trek to Dudhsagar Waterfall Top through Jungle Route and Camping near the Waterfall on 15th and 16th November 2014. (Leaving on 14th Night and Returning on 17th November Morning)

Dudhsagar is one of the world's most exquisite falls. It lies high up in the Mandovi River's watershed and so are so spectacular during the monsoon season when the falls are transformed into one of the most powerful falls in India. Dudhsagar Falls is listed as India's fifth tallest waterfall and is 227th in the world at 310 m. The water plummets hundreds of meters (over a thousand feet) in large volumes during the rainy monsoon season, forming one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in Goa.

There is also a legend associated with this waterfall. It is believed that a beautiful princess lived in the forest (near present day Dudhsagar Falls) in a palace. She loved and enjoyed bathing in a lake nearby and used to drink "sweetened milk" from her "golden jug" after finishing with her bath. One day while enjoying her jug of milk she found herself being watched by a prince, who was standing amongst the trees. Red with embarrassment at her inadequate bathing attire, she poured the jug of milk in front of him to form an improvised curtain to hide her body while the maids rushed to cover her with her dress. It is said that it is that sweetened milk that cascades down the mountain slope as Dudhsagar Falls to this day as a tribute to the virtue and modesty of the princess.

This is equally scenic but less popular route. One has to get down at Kuhlem (Collem) railway station and walk towards the falls which is about 11 km away. It normally takes 2–3 hours to reach. The famous photograph of Trains passing through before the waterfalls can be seen in this route and also the complete stretch of the falls will be visible while you hike towards the waterfalls.

Netrani (also known as Pigeon Island) is a tiny island of India located in the Arabian Sea. It is off the coast of Karnataka situated approximately 10 nautical miles (19 km) from the temple town of Murudeshwara.Netrani is a coral island and therefore suitable for snorkelling and diving activities. Many varieties of coral, butterfly fish, trigger fish, parrot fish, eels and shrimps can be seen here.Normally diving/snorkelling is done from a boat which is anchored close to the island and usually visitors do not climb on to the island because of the sharp rocks and steep cliffs on the island.

You also get a chance to see the World’s Second Largest Shiva Statue at the famous Murdeshwara temple. The place holds a mythological significance and you will get to know more about it at the museum located inside the temple.

Murudeshwara is a town in Bhatkal Taluk of Uttara Kannada district in the state of Karnataka, India. The town lies on the coast of the Arabian Sea.Murudeshwara is another name of the Hindu god Shiva.

Aasamant team has come up with a treat for the photographers with a tour to Allahabad-Varanasi-Saarnath :

Various places that we will be visiting are :

1) Allahabad Fort: Allahabad Fort was built by Emperor Ashoka but repaired by Emperor Akbar in 1583. The fort stands on the banks of the Yamuna near the confluence with the river Ganges. It is the largest fort built by Akbar. In its prime, the fort was unrivaled for its design, construction and craftsmanship. This huge fort has three galleries flanked by high towers.

2) Alfred Park: Also known as Chandrashekhar Azad Park and Company Garden it is a public park of 133 acres area and is the biggest park in Allahabad. It is renamed after freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad, who sacrificed his life here, during the Indian independence struggle in 1931.

3) Anand Bhavan: It was constructed by Indian political leader Motilal Nehru in the 1930s to serve as the new residence of the Nehru family when the original mansion Swaraj Bhavan was transformed into the local headquarters of the Indian National Congress.
Varanasi which claims to be the oldest living city in the world, with 3500 years of documented history is also called Kashi.

4) Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir is one of the sacred temples of hanuman in the city of Varanasi. It is situated by the Assi river within Banaras Hindu University Campus. Temple was built in early 1900 by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya.

5) Kashi Vishwnath Mandir is one of the most famous Hindu temples and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple stands on the western bank of Holy Ganga, and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Vishwnatha means Ruler Of The Universe.

6)SAARNATH:- The deer park in Sarnath is where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma, and where the Buddhist Sangha came into existence through the enlightenment of Kondanna. Sarnath is located 13 kilometres north-east of Varanasi near the confluence of the Ganges and the Gomati rivers, in Uttar Pradesh, India. Singhpur, a village approximately one km away from the site, was the birthplace of Shreyansanath, the eleventh Tirthankara of Jainism, and a temple dedicated to him, is an important pilgrimage site.


The detailed itinerary of the event is as follows :

Brief Introduction of Asherigad-

Height: 2000 feet
Range: Palghar.
Level: Medium

History mentions that Bhojraj, a descendant of the Shilahar Dynasty built this fort. Hence it can be assumed that this fort is at least 800 years old. The Portuguese rebuilt this fort after they captured it during their rule. In 1737, Peshwa won this fort during his campaign of the Konkan and in 1818 this fort came under the British rule.

Fascinating Spots :

On the plains and on the right of the path one can see quite many remnants of settlements. One can also see quite many foundations with gutters cut in them. These could be to collect the rainwater during the rainy season or to lead away the overflow. The cave on the top is of medium size and having a large cave opening. But it has been carved into the rocks in such a way that the stray wind or the cold does not enter in. The back portion of the cave is very uneven. However, there are platforms made both outside and inside for the guards to take rest. The two hibiscus bushes outside the cave entrance point to the fact that rituals might have been conducted regularly by the villagers somewhere in the past. On left side of the top portion of the cave, there is a built in square water tank. There is a half buried cannon in this tank. There are two more half completed tanks here. From the top plateau, one can see the fort of Kohoj to the South West. One can also see the natural human form on the fort with the help of binoculars. Going ahead on the path one can see a huge depression the rock face and a bastion.

Get ready to walk in the dense forest & take self challenge to walk approx 50 KM.

Lonavala to Bhimashankar is arguably the best back-country trek in the Sahyadri range. The route passes through deep wild rain-forest, head-high bushes, lost-and-found trails, small rivulets, remote tribal villages, temples, green meadows, hidden waterfalls and a plateau of flowers. Sure you will explore the best of the Sahyadri range on this trek.

We are glad to invite you for a Trek to Harihar fort(Harshagad) on 7th September, 2014.(leaving on 6th September 2014)

 

General Information:
The fort of Harihar, lying on Trimbak range, was of significant importance in earlier periods, as there used to be a route crossing this range connecting Maharashtra to Gujarat.Trimbak range has spreaded its arms to the north of Igatpuri and west of Nasik. It is divided mainly in two parts, with forts of Basgad, Utvad, hill of Fani, Harihar and Trimbakgad on one part while the forts of Anjaneri and Hargad on the other. Vaitarna is the main river in this region. But due to the one – sided slope of Sahyadri, the water flows away from this region. There is an absolute shortage of water from January to March in this region. The fort appears to be rectangular in shape from its base village.

Since its a ridge, its rather steep as compared to other hills in this range. The peculiar feature about this hill is a naturally formed hole in the rock wall (like a needle hole). I call it the Eye of the Mountain, and it sure offers some breath-taking views! Naneghat literally means a trade pass. Nane means "coin" and ghat means "pass". Getting this name because of its strategic location to collect toll from traders crossing the hills, Naneghat exists from pre Christian Era. During the reign of the Satavahana (200 BCE–190 CE), the pass was extensively used as a trade route between Kalyan and Junnar. Today, this is one of the most sought after and enjoyable treks close to the city.
