Courtesy: Trekshitiz.com Fort Peb is situated on northeast side of Panvel, on Mumbai-Pune road, at a distance of 3-4 km on west side of Neral. To avoid crowd at hill stations like Matheran, nature lovers must visit the nearby fort Peb. This is the most beautiful one-day trek. One would find Peb similar to Gorakhgad in terms of the time required to climb the fort, ways towards the fort, the cave and the surrounding nature. The trek to the top involves surmounting a small rock patch and a ladder. The fort is famous for its caves which are maintained by disciples of Swami Samartha and the meditation chambers carved out from the rock inside the mountain. To get inside the meditation chamber, one has to crawl through a narrow passage in the rock and then climb down into the meditation chamber. The chamber is very well maintained with tiles on the floor for ppl to sit and meditate. The fort also has a temple dedicated to Swami Samartha on the top and has the footwear or 'Padukas' worn by the great saint kept on the top. Netrani (also known as Pigeon Island) is a tiny island of India located in the Arabian Sea. It is off the coast of Karnataka situated approximately 10 nautical miles (19 km) from the temple town of Murudeshwara.Netrani is a coral island and therefore suitable for snorkelling and diving activities. Many varieties of coral, butterfly fish, trigger fish, parrot fish, eels and shrimps can be seen here.Normally diving/snorkelling is done from a boat which is anchored close to the island and usually visitors do not climb on to the island because of the sharp rocks and steep cliffs on the island.

Some information about the place:
Type: Hill Fort
Grade: Medium
Endurance Level: Medium
Height: approx. 4255 ft.
Base Village: Ratanwadi

Ratan means Jewel in Hindi. This hill fort is
indeed jewel in all the hill forts here in Sahyadri. It is located in the district of Ahmednagar and is located about 4255 feet above sea level. It lies in the Ajoba mountain range surrounded by great mountains of Kulang, Alang, Kalsubai, Katarabai, Ajoba and Ghanchakkar. Geographically Ratangad is at the banks of Bhandardara lake of Ahmednagar district. With views of lake and highest mountains in Sahyadri looks very much lost in time.

This fort offers offers fabulous views of majestic Sahyadri ranges. Right from Katrabai till Sandhan Valley. One of the most beautiful forts in Flowering September, Ratangad seems to shadowed by yellow Sonki Flowers.

At the base of this fort is ancient Lord Shiva (Amurteshwar) temple. About 1000 years old temple of Lord Shiva, the Amruteshwar Temple at Ratanwadi, is an absolute paragon of high class architecture of our ancestors.
(*Pic Courtesy: Abhineet Prakash)

Ratangad has still the remains of fort with bastions and stone walls. Cave on the top is cut from the rock face and can easily accomodate 25 people at a time. Water cisterns are usually filled with water throughout the year and trekkers use them as water source. Eastern side of the fort has some fortification left, one can see Rani mahal here. From the southern side on can see Katrabai and Ajoba fort very close.
(*Pic Courtesy: Kaustubh Basankar)

This side has also some fortification left, but most of it is damaged. Climbing up on the northern side, one can see natural orifice (hole in rock, locally called nedhe) in the rock face, mostly made by wind. This orifice is big enough to be seen from base of the fort and can accommodate about 6-7 people at a time. Strong winds can be experienced at this orifice. Climbing down the Nedhe to the western end of the fort leads closest to the Khuta pinnacle via Triambak Darwaza.

We at Trek Mates India, invites you to much one more awaited range trek of the season, Range Trek from Bhimashankar (Ladder Route Ascend) to Siddhagad on 27 & 28 Sept.14

Little Info About The Event :

Distance to be covered: 50-55km approx
Difficulty level: Medium
Endurance level: High
Group Size: 20 participants

Bhimashankar
Type: Hill Trek
Height: 3500 Feet above MSL (Approx)
Grade: Medium (5. hrs trek)
Base Village: Khandas / Kathewadi

Bhimashankar : is one of the 12 Jyotirlings of India, a pilgrimage place approximately 3500 feet high up in the hills. The area around Bhimashankar is covered with thick dense jungle. The Maharashtra Government has also declared it a Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is small (only about 100 sq. km’s), but it is home to a wide variety of animals Leopard, Sambar, Barking deer, Porcupines, Grey Junglefowls, Wild pig, Hanuman langur, Rhesus macaque and Flying Squirrel etc. The sanctuary is famous as the home of a highly endangered subspecies of the Indian Giant Squirrel – Shekharu (Ratufaindicaelphistoni), which is also the state animal of Maharashtra.

Shiva Temple: The temple of Bhimashankar is around 1200 – 1400 years old and is built on the HemadPanthi style. There are very beautiful sculptures and paintings on the roof and pillars of the temple. At the front of the temple hangs a huge metal bell cast in 1729. There is also a 15-20 feet high “Deepmala” or lamppost in the outer corridor of the temple. There is also an inscription on stone on this lamppost. It is to be noted that the original name of the river Chandrabhaga at Pandharpur is Bhima. This Bhima River originates at Bhimashankar.

GuptBhimashankar : There is a water stream route going down from the left of the Ram temple. Taking that route, we enter a thick jungle. We reach a temple around 25 minutes through this route. A route going toward the waterfall, left of this temple, leads to the “water sculpted” “Shiva Linga” under this waterfall. This is called the GuptBhimashankar. There is a huge waterfall at this place.

Siddhgad :
Type: Hill Fort
Height: 3232 Feet above MSL (Approx)
Grade: Easy (5. hrs trek)
Base Village: Uchale / Narivali

(*Images sourced from internet)

Here we can see few remnants of the fort that was battled over between British and Maratha army, Shiva Temple, few broken cannons, few water cisterns etc.

From top of Siddhagadh one can see Karnala, Manikgad, Kothaligad, Bhimashankar, Gorakhgadh&Macchindragadh.

This place is also known in Indian Freedom movement as two freedom fighters (BhaiKotwal&HirajiPatil) were shot dead at this place by Britisher on 2nd Jan 1943.

The Mumbai Musafirs Motorbike Ride to Tapola 13th - 14th September 2014

$
0
0
Date: - 13th - 14th September, 2014

Assembly Points: -
4:45AM - Eternity Mall, Thane
6:00 AM - NMMC, Palm Beach

Distance from Mumbai: Approx 250kms (one way)

Fees: - Trip Fees 2100/- (excluding fuel) accounts for your breakfasts, snacks, meals, accommodation (multiple sharing), parking charges, kayaking, reflector bibs and ‘peace-of-mind’ a.k.a Breakdown Vehicle (BdV).

This ride would probably be the last ride that we do amidst lush greenery until the next monsoons. Don’t miss it! Following the amazing previous ride meant only for the hard-assed bikers, The Musafirs present a relatively relaxed ride in the month of September. Although this one would be a shorter 500-550 km circuit there would be no compromise on the quality of experience. Having done a recce to the location about 2 weeks ago, the team was just mesmerized by the scenic beauty of the route as well as of the destination. A few kilometers of the stretch you ride parallel to a swiftly flowing river following which you gradually ascend into the clouds while overlooking the starfish shaped natural lake. The lush greenery, numerous small and large waterfalls and curvy roads beckons each rider to delve into its beauty. Once at the acco, you could get into one of the life jackets and jump into the lake or take a kayak and row it to the center to experience serenity. This ride promises 2 days of peacefulness and rejuvenation.

The Musafirs is NOT a Boyz-Only Riding Family. We have quite a few female riders joining us for our rides. Our female crew member – Shona and numerous other female Musafirs would be there for lively company throughout the trip.

Last Date for Cancellation: On or before 5th September, 2014 (No cancellations/adjustments/replacements possible after this date irrespective of the waiting list count. Also no cancellation refunds could be entertained for registrations done after 5th September)

Current status: The ride is currently open for Musafirs, Friends of The Musafirs and every other passionate ego-less biker. Bikes of every make that can clock 80kmph constantly are allowed. Please get your bikes serviced at least a week before the ride so that you know if there is anything amiss with the servicing. Also, fill your fuel tanks before joining the group at the assembly point to avoid any delays.

Carry your bike spares if you don’t want your bike to be loaded in the breakdown vehicle for minor issues. It is ideal to carry Tyre tubes, clutch and accelerator cables, chain lock, headlamp bulb. We are going to a remote location and any breakdown for which you are not carrying spares could result in you doing the ride sitting behind the breakdown vehicle.

Ride fees remain the same for every participant irrespective of whether or not you avail the facilities/meals/tents/BreakDown Vehicle provided by us.

We do not support/encourage drugs and are firmly against it! If you cannot resist the urge to light up a joint for 2 days, you are better off riding with some other riding group. Upon finding possession of any contraband item, it would off course be your last ride with us but you would also be handed over to the nearest police station without warning. Also, don’t come drunk at the assembly – if you reek of booze, you’ll be sent home!

Lets ride… lets enjoy… lets BE A MUSAFIR
