Brief about the forts:

Rohida Fort (3661 feet):-This is very important fort in Bhor area (Pune District) situated on Bhor – Mahabaleshwar mountain range. This fort impressed because of its long natural fortwall and well constructed entrance gate. We need to pass through three gates before we reach to the top of this fort. First Mahadarwaja is circular type, on Second darwaja there is carving of Lion and legendary animal ‘Sharabh’. On third gate there are carved images of Lotus, fish and images of Sun & Moon on upper side.On Fort we can see water tank, Rohideshwar temple, carved caves, ruins of fortifications & old buildings includig grain storage, sadar (main office). There are seven Buruj on Rohida for out of that Fatte Buruj, Waghjai & Shiravle Buruj is well constructed to fight with enemy.

Raireshwar (4589 feet):- Tableland of Pachgani is very famous but higher and longer tableland is the plateau of Rayari. It is 8 km away from Bhor. It looks beautiful in monsoon. Raireshwar was considered to develop as a hill station & in real sense it is hill station. Raireshwar is historically important, Shivaji Maharaj took the Oath of Swaraj in a temple of Lord Shiva. After this he kept on conquering forts and established Swaraj. This temple is situated rather deep in the interior, hence not seen in first glance. A temple surrounded by hills, surroundings covered by natural beauties. Stone structured temple of the 16th century is the main attraction of Raireshwar.

Kenjalgad (4273 feet) is situated on the Mandhardev spur of the Mahadev range eleven miles north-west of Wai. It is a flat-topped hill of an irregular oval shape, about 250 yards long and one hundred yards wide. Khelanja fort is said to have been built by the Bhoj Rajas of Panhala who flourished in the twelfth century.

Here is some info abt the fort:

Grade: Easy
Type: Hill Fort

Karnala fort is a hill fort in Raigad district about 13 km from Panvel. Currently it is a protected place lying within the Karnala Bird Sanctuary. It was a fort of strategic importance.
Redeemed with the power struggle of many rulers, Karnala Fort stands as a specimen of the 13th century constructions. The fort was sparingly used by the Karnala rulers including Angres, Mudhan and Peshwas until 1818, by which time British rulers have taken over the grand old fort under their control.

The Karnala Fort engulf a steep rock in the midst of greenish surroundings and has been a challenge to many adventurous trekkers all through the past and continue to be a great attraction among the fans of trekkers. About
Ajoba is one of the highest peak in Sahyadri. One of the best places to trek near Mumbai. We can be climbed either from eastern or from western side. The climb from eastern side takes longer time. There is a Valmiki Ashram at half way to the fort. The rest path to the top is said to be risky during monsoon. Near the Ashram, there is a small hut where we can stay. A small water stream provides us with pure water. The way beyond Ashram leads to a rivulet, crossing which we can reach the cave of ‘LUV-KUSH’. To reach this spot we have to ascend the way of waterfall for one and half hour. Above this cave there is a precipice called ‘Cradle of Sitamai’. In the cave there are the carved “Padukas” or the footprints of Luv and Kush. This precipice is a real challenge for trekkers. The ashram is a sacred place and people from all over Maharashtra come here. There are some carved stones near the ashram, on which some carved idols depict some story.

YHAI Mumbai Unit Trek to Sagargad fort and Khandale waterfall - 24th August, 2014

Fort/Hill: Sagargad fort with Khandale waterfall
Region: Alibaug
Grade: Medium
Height: 452 meters/1,357 feet
Expense: INR 700 for members and INR 740 for non members

About Sagargad fort and Khandale waterfall:
The fort of Sagargad is also known as Khed durg. This fort was built to keep an eye on the shores of Alibaug and Dharamtar creek. Until the establishment of forts like Khanderi, Kulaba and Sarjekot by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the onus of protection of the coast around Alibaug was on Sagargad alone. It should be noted that although the fort is called Sagargad, the fort itself is 5 miles from the sea.

The waterfall of Khandale is a treat during the monsoons. The base village is Khandale for this hike. The hike is a pleasant one with very gradual climb. It would take around two hours to reach the top.

The expense includes transport ex-Mumbai, breakfast/snacks, tea/coffee and YHAI expertise for the trek. Lunch is not included and has to be carried by the participants. Any expense other than mentioned is to be borne by the participants.
