"Wild Rangers" tour to Magnificent DudhSagar Water Fall & Gokak Water Fall on 12-14 Sep 2014 - Batch III

$

Dear Rangers
"Wild Rangers" have arranged the tour to Magnificent DudhSagar Water Fall & Gokak Water Fall on 12-14 Sep 2014

Dudh Sagar Waterfall
The magnificent Dudhsagar Waterfall is perched in the high peaks of the Western Ghats and is a sight to behold especially in the monsoons when it is in full and furious flow. From a distance, the waterfall appears like streams of milk rushing down the mountainside. The exhuberent and spectacular waterfall is located in the Sanguem taluka.

Measuring a mighty 600m from head to foot, this waterfall on the Goa-Karnataka border, attracts a steady stream of visitors from the coast into the rugged Western Ghats. After pouring across the Deccan plateau, the headwaters of the Mandovi River form a foaming torrent that splits into three streams to cascade down a near-vertical cliff face into a deep green pool.

The Konkani name for the falls, which literally translated means "sea of milk", derives from clouds of milky foam which rises up at the bottom of the falls. Dudhsagar is set amidst breathtaking scenery overlooking a steep, crescent-shaped head of a valley carpeted with pristine tropical forest, that is only accessible on foot or by train.

Gokak Waterfall
The Gokak waterfall is located at a distance of 6 km from Gokak on the Ghataprabha River in the Belgaum district.

The Ghataprabha River separated from the Malaprabha river by the Belgaum hills flows through the black soil plains before it enters the rocky belt of Gokak.
After a long winding course, Ghataprabha River takes a leap of 170 ft over the sandstone cliff. The cliff is in a picturesque gorge of the Gokak valley and is in the shape of a horseshoe. Except the width and color of the water, the general characteristics of the fall, height, shape and speed look a lot like Niagara Falls on a smaller scale. The dull roar of the falls can be heard long before it attained.

There is a hanging bridge across the river, about 201 meters and its height above the bed rock is measuring about 14 meters. Only 30 people are allowed at a time inside the bridge

Trekways Sahyadri : Monsoon trek to Korigad, Nr. Lonavla on 13th July 2014, Sunday

Introduction, Geography & History of Fort:

Type: Hill Fort
Height: Approx. 3000 ft above MSL
Grade: Easier
Region: Lonavla, Pune.
Mode of Transport: Private Vehicle

Korigad is a fort located about 20 km away from Lonavla in Pune district. Its date of construction is likely predates 1500. The closest village is Peth Shahpur. The interesting part of the fort is that its wall is completely intact and one can walk along its entire perimeter (about 2 km). Its massive gate is also intact. Several ruins of older structures within the fort still exist.
History:
This fort was incorporated into his kingdom by Shivaji Maharaj along with the forts of Lohagad, Visapur, Tung and Tikona in 1657. On 11 March 1818, Col. Prother tried to take over this fort but even after a prolonged siege could not make any headway. Finally on 14 March, by igniting the stored ammunition by means of a loose cannon ball he succeeded and this fort went to the British.

Fascinating Spots:
Koraigad appears like a wall from peth Shahapur. On the top of the fort is a huge plateau. The ramparts on this fort are around 1.5 kms in length. Moving along the complete top of the fort by walking on the bailey is possible. While coming up from the Peth Shahapur route many caves come across, also some cisterns and an idol of Lord Ganesh.

After entering Shreeganesh Darwaja (Peth Shahapur route), the remnants of the old buildings can be seen. A Temple of a Godess Korai Devi is located here. There is a “DEEPMALA” right in front of the temple. The idol of Korai Devi is around 4 feet high. There are many bastions on the southern side of the fort. There are 6 cannons on this fort, of these the biggest cannon is named as “LAXMI” lies next to the Korai Devi Temple. There are two more temples on the fort. There are two large ponds on this fort and two caves are ahead. Here is an idol of Lord Vishnu holding the Conch, Discus, Mace and Lotus flower.  From here Nagphani point, Tung, Tikona, Matheran, Prabalgad, Karnala, Manikgad ranges can be viewed.

 Dear Venturers,

Inviting you all to the trek to Kondhivade Caves...on a journey to the 8 Buddhist caves of the Hinayana Buddhist tradition which is a one hour trek from the Kondane village.

The Kondana (Kondhivade) caves enclose sculptures, vihara, cahitya and stupas, specimens of ancient Buddhist architecture. Although there was an earth quake in the early 1900s many stupas, the front entrance and the floor of the caves were damaged. But what remains intact is the beatuful Chaitya that welcomes you to the rock cut caves that were created around 200 BC - 100BC.

Apart from the lush green that the monsoon provides, you can spend your time getting a cold fresh water massage as you sit under the cascading waterfall.
