Wild Rangers have arranged Trek to Ajinkyatara and Vasota fort on 30th Nov – 1 Dec 2013.

Brief Information about Vasota & Ajinkyatara :-
Region: Satara
Type: Hill fort/forest Fort
Grade: Easy
Mode of Transport: Private Transport

Vasota is also known as Vyaghragad (fortress of the Tiger). Vasota fort lies within the Koyna sanctuary (total area 423 sq km), and you need a special permit from the Forest office at Bamnoli to get in. The forest at the base of Vasota can be reached only by hiring a boat from Bamnoli and crossing the Koyna lake (1.5 hours). There is no regular boat service. The boat drops you at Met-Indavli, which is a usually uninhabited forest camp, and returns to Bamnoli immediately. A 2-hour tough uphill hike through dense pristine forest takes you to the ruined fortress.

Ajinkyatara fort is located at altitude of 3,300 feet. As the fort is in the higher altitude, visitors can enjoy a magnificent view of the entire Satara city. There are number of water tanks inside the fort for storing water. So, there is no scarcity of water even as the fort is in the higher place
In 1708, Shahu Maharaj won Ajinkyatara, remained with the Marathas till 1818. The Ajinkyatara fort is a major historic place of Maharashtra, and was very vital as one could keep watch of the entire South Maharashtra.

Details about Rajmachi : - 

There are two Fortresses on Rajmachi –the taller one in the east is Shrivardhan and the other in the west is Manoranjan. Rajmachi is a unique fort having wide plateau on all sides of the twin fortresses. There is a rich treasure of historical monuments on Rajmachi, viz. mighty ramparts and walls, gateways, secret exit gates, administrative offices, water storage tanks and reservoirs, residential quarters, temples and idols of deities. Kal Bhairav temple is situated in the col between Shrivardhan and Manoranjan. Local inhabitants worship Kal Bhairav even today. The Budhdist caves on the western slope of Rajmachi plateau (at present known as Kondhane caves) were carved in the period around 200 BC. The existence of these ancient caves indicates that Rajmachi had been identified as an important place right from the Budhdist period.

Hello Adventure Enthusiasts,

We invite you join us for a unique trekking /hiking race in the region of Fort Rajgad, Fort Torna and Surrounding area. 

The Concept: -

“IMPULSE - A Hill Race 2013” – will be a unique trekking /hiking race with essentials of navigation conducted in Pune district, routing through the magnificent & beautiful Sahyadri mountain ranges.

The route for “IMPULSE 2013” will be tough enough to give an adrenaline rush and equally beautiful enough to give our participant a pleasure drive to enjoy. It will stretch over a distance of approx 15 - 20 kms covering popular and ancient forts such as Fort Torna and the king of Forts – Rajgad and surrounding area.  Distances will vary with categories. The uniqueness of our route is that it makes participants to tussle and strive together to win. The hills are located just at the outskirts of the city which makes it were accessible to every adventure enthusiast. It will be a nonstop race, with a predefined cut off time. This will truly become a real test of team spirit, character along with physical endurance.

To participate in “Impulse 2013”, one has to form a team. Each team will be of two members and will compete against other teams.

“Impulse 2013” is been organized by Backpack Outdoors in association with Camp Koyna.

• Each team will comprise of 2 members
• All team members must be minimum 18 years of age.
• Participating Teams from Armed Forces, other paramilitary and other related establishments can participate only in Open category.

           Open: 18-20Kms

           Amateurs / Corporate / Collegian / Sports Club; Adventure Org.:  15 -16 Kms  

           40 Plus : 10 - 12 kms 

Detail Route will be provided 1 week prior to the Race.

7.00 am to 7.30am       : Reporting at the Start Point

8.00 am                       : Flag Off

5.00 pm                       : Last Checkpoint Cut off time.

7.00 pm                       : Race End

7.30 – 8.30 pm                        : Prize Distribution at the Finish Point

About Avchitgad:

Avchitgad is situated near Roha  in the Raigad district. Medha is  the base village of this fort. The fort is spread on an area on hill top which has a shape of horse shoe.

This fort is believed to be built by Shilahar kings and subsequently used by the Nizam of  Ahmednagar. The  Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj also believed to have reconstructed this fort. The work was carried out in a hurry and hence the name 'Avchit' (hurry) 'gad' (fort).  

The approximate height of this fort is 977 feet.  It is a easy trek through the jungle up to the fort which takes about an hour to climb. From atop the fort one can have a beautiful view of the neighbouring forts of Telbaila, Sarasgad, Sudhagad, Raigad. On the southern side there is citadel. On the western side of the citadel, there are 7 small water cisterns on the western side. Amongst these cisterns there is a shrine dedicated to Shivaji's Sardar Baji Pasalkar.

There is a dense forest around the entire fort with leopards, monkeys and foxes.

Catch the Diva-Sawantwadi Kokan Railway starting from Diva.

Diva             : 06.20 AM (Central line)

Panvel         : 07.00 AM (Harbour line)

Participants coming from Western suburbs & Dadar can catch the same train at Panvel station at its schedule time.

Ujjain is one of the greatest cities of ancient India, links with its glorious past have endured into the present day, making it a city still renowned for its traditions of spirituality, learning and culture. Situated on the banks of the river Shipra. Ujjain is one of the venues of the Kumbh Mela held every tweve years.
Mandu is situated about 90 kms. from Indore. Mandu, also known as Shadibad, which means the city of joy. Mandu was fortified as early as the 6th century, but gained prominence in the 10th century as the fort capital of the Parmar rulers of Malwa. Mandu is situated on an isolated hill top which is separated from the tableland to the north by a deep and wide valley over which a natural causeway runs to the main city gate. Mandu is the largest standing fortified town in the world. The walls of Mandu have a circumference of 75 km. The walls look the same as they did some 300 years ago.
On the banks of the Narmada, Omkareshwar is a Jyotirlinga of Lord shiva. A special feature of the location of Omkareshwar Temple is that the river Narmada branches into two and forms an island Mandhata or Shivapuri in the center. The shape of the island resembles that of the visual representation of the Omkara sound, Om. There are two temples here, one to Omkareshwar and one to Amareshwar.
Mamaleshwar is one of the 12 jyotirlingas. It is present on the opposite bank of Narmada river to Omkareshwar temple. Although Omkareshwar was famous temple, Mamaleshwar is the actual Jyotirling.

Sandhan valley सांधण व्हॅली is known Wonder of nature & splendid of Sahyadri (Western Ghats). Water carved valley of 200 ft deep and about 1.5Km long. Sandhan valley is located on the west side of beautiful Bhandardara region, near Samrad village. Valley surrounded with mighty Alang अलंग, Madan मदन & Kulang कुलंग (Known as AMK- toughest trek in Sahyadri) Ratangad रतनगड, Ajoba आजोबागड & Kalsubai कळसूबाई शिखर (5400 ft. highest peak in Maharashtra) mountain ranges. Brilliant & deep narrow rock floored ravine between the two high walls of mountain range. At some places its width is less than 3 ft so that at some places sun rays unable to reach. So it’s called valley of shadow. You can enter in Sandhan valley but it is accessible throughout the year except monsoon. To go at end side of gorge you have cross 2-3 water pools, water level changes according to seasons, in winter it is up to waist & in summer it is up to knee height. At the end of valley you get magnificent view of high cliffs & deep valleys. To reach up to this point you don’t need any trekking equipment. This is called Sandhan Valley trek.

Short Info:

Salher is a place located near Waghamba in Nasik district of Maharashtra, India. 

According to a legend, Lord Parshuram did his Tapascharya at Salher Fort.After winning the earth and giving it as donation; he made land for himself to live in, by pushing the sea back with his arrows, right from this place.

History says that in Year 1340, Baglan’s king Mandev was the Ruler of this fort.

The perimeter of the Salher fort is around 11 Kms encompassing an area of around 600 hectares.

Baglan is the fertile region being fed by the rivers Mokshaganga and Akshaganga. This is one of the areas rich in agricultural productivity, forests and wealth and the villagers here are quite well to do. Still, there are tribes like the Kokan and Bhils living on these hills.

Alang Fort (also Alangad) is a fort in Nashik district, Maharashtra, India. It is one of the three forts, the others being Madangad and Kulang, in the Kalsubai range of the Western Ghats. Alang, Madan and Kulang, the forts situated in Kalasubai range, are the most difficult forts in Nasik District. Dense forest and less population have made these treks difficult. These three forts are little neglected due to very heavy rain and difficult as well as confusing ways to go.

Details of Destination
Harishchandragad is a hill fort in the Ahmednagar region of India. Its history is linked with that of Malshej Ghat, and it has played a major role in guarding and controlling the surrounding region.
The fort is quite ancient. Remnants of Microlithic man have been discovered here. The various Puranas (ancient scriptures) like Matsyapurana, Agnipurana and Skandapurana include many references about Harishchandragad. Its origin is said to have been in 6th century, during the rule of Kalchuri dynasty. The citadel was built during this era. The various caves probably have been carved out in the 11th century. In these caves are idols of Lord Vishnu. Though the cliffs are named Taramati and Rohidas, they are not related to Ayodhya. Great sage Changdev (one who created the epic “Tatvasaar”), used to meditate here in 14th century. The caves are from the same period. The various constructions on the fort and those existing the surrounding region point to the existence of diverse cultures here. The carvings on the temples of Nageshwar (in Khireshwar village), in the Harishchandreshwar temple and in the cave of Kedareshwar indicate that the fort belongs to the medieval period, since it is related to Shaiva, Shakta or Naath. Later the fort was under the control of Moguls. The Marathas captured it in 1747. (WIKI)

Short Info: 

Many dignities of Maharashtra had visited this marvelous Cave one of them are Mr.Gopal Nilkanth Dandekar. It is also experienced from Shri. Dandekar that Lord Chhatrapati Shiviji Maharaj also visited to this religious place and offer one Golden Plate to the God. The Dhak Cave is having Two Water Tanks. There are number of utensils are also found inside the Tank which is offere to god by Pilgrims. For Climbing on the last patch of Dhak before reaching inside the Cave on the steep rock there is one branch of tree whichis tied with a small rope size branch of flexible tree. Recently, there was a phenomenon occured at DHAK Cave. A God Bahiri was seen by one villager in his dream said I am covered with something please remove it. Then the same village told all these repeated incide to his friends and villagers. The went into caves, they cramed, sang bhazzan, songs over day and night in three days. Finally, person who saw the god in dream went closer to BAHIRI Rock took one needle and touched to back side of rock to remove oil and Shendur which was stuck on rock. Immediately, with a big noice cover removed and a beautiful carved GOD Bhiri comes out. Similary they did to other two rocks also. The they found Lord Ganesh and Devi Bhavani carved on the rock.

Day-1 : 14th December : 8:00 pm depart from Mumbai to Karjat by Local Train. Reach Karjat by 10.00 pm. Move towards Sandshi village (Base Village) by public / private transport. Reach Sandshi village by 11.00 pm. Have Dinner. And rest for night.

Day-2: 15th December : Early morning fresh up and tea. Post tea start trek @ 5:00AM reach bhairi caves @10:00AM. Explore the Caves. Before that experience the thrilling roack patch of Bahiri,a caves, breakfast in cave. Post breakfast start descending towards base village. Lunch at Village cooked by locals. Post Lunch proceed back to Karjat by Bus / Jeep. Reach Mumbai by 8 pm.

Outdoor Adventure Management is back in action with Introductory Rock climbing session for Newcomers and practice session for all OAM RC students at Belapur.
It’s time to challenge your strength, flexibility and adventurous soul in you.

"Rock climbing" is the sport of climbing rock faces, especially with the safety of ropes and special equipment.
For physical fitness, fun and, yes, adrenaline, nothing beats rock climbing. But Knowledge of proper climbing techniques and usage of specialized climbing equipment is crucial for the safety.


Details of programme:
Date – Sunday, 1st December 2013
Time - Reach CBD - Belapur Bus Depot by 8:00am. Call any of the core team member.
Difficulty Level -Basic (Easy)

Bhandup Pumping Station

Bhandup Pumping Station is a relatively unknown place to a lot of people and is not as famous as say SGNP. But it is easily accessible for both Mumbaikars as well as out of towners. If you go by local train Nahur is the nearest local train station from which you can easily get a bus or auto rickshaw  to take you to the Pumping Station. If you are driving then (from the Mumbai side heading to Thane) take a U turn under the Airoli flyover and look for a small turn off to the left. This is a narrow but tarred road and you can drive on this road close up to the lake. You can then park and do the rest of the trek on foot.

Photo Walk Schedule:

• Gather at Nahur Station @ 6:30 am 
• Head towards Bhandup Pumping by local transport @ 6:45 am
• Start the Trail around 7:00 am
• Trail will end by 12:00 pm
• Bid adieu and return to respective destinations.
