Type:
Hill Fort

Height:
 2815 ft
Region:
 Thane

 Medium.

The creator of this fort is unknown. In 1485 this place came under rule Nijamshahi dynasty. When Shahaji Raje became the secretary of Nijamshahi, Mughals of Delhi tried to end Nijamshahi. In 1635-36, Shahaji Raje transferred himself with Jijabai and Shivaji to Mahuli. When Khan Jaman attacked the fort, Shahaji asked Portuguese for help, who refused and Shahaji surrendered.

Shivaji took this fort from Mughals on 8 Jan 1658. In 1661 it was given back and was won again by Shivaji. In treaty of Purandar, in 1665, Marathas lost these forts again. In Feb 1670, Shivaji Maharaj tried to conquer Mahuli, but failed, Manohardas Gaud, was the in charge of the fort. A thousand Marathas were killed. Manohardas Gaud, soon gave up his position and Alveerdi Beg took over. On 16 June 1670, after two months, Moropant Pingle conquered the forts and Mahuli, Bhandargad and Palasgad became part of Swarajya. Rules and regulations.

Do understand that we do not arrange picnics. It follows that if one seeks luxury and absolute comfort then we can hardly help them. ;)
Offbeat sahyadri believe in being one with nature and that is possible only when we shed all city slicker attitudes. Of course by that we do not suggest that one should be ready for any kind of nonsense.
Utmost care is taken to ensure safety of the group and care is taken that no one is inconvenienced because of factors within our control.
We do expect our offbeater friends to understand group dynamics and leave at home their individuality. They should be prepared to share and care. That makes and all the physical and mental exhaustion forgettable and the trek itself becomes unforgettable! Trust us on this.

Now some basic codes.
Respect nature.
1)   Absofreakinglutely no littering! Carry your own trash. If you are found littering then we will request you to pick it up. Friends, it is really not nice to throw garbage around and it only reflects upon us. Will we do this to our own houses? J.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!
2)   Do not disturb the flora and fauna. No making pretty bouquets of grabbed flowers and blooms. No feeding and intimidating birds and other animals. Think how you would feel if someone barges into your house and threatens you. The jungle is THEIR home. So, Capital N O= NO!

3)   Remember, the mountain has a mind of his own. Beware and do not make the mistake of taking him for granted. It sounds weird but it’s true.

With fellow trekkers.
1)   It is fun to interact and get to know people from different walks of life. Feel free to take the opportunity to expand your social circles.
2)   Share water and food. Nothing else is a better ice breaker than being offered water or a bite of your sandwich!
3)   Care for your fellow trekkers. It is not nice to be self centered and unamicable.

For your own safety
1)   The organizers and you yourself are equally responsible for your safety. We cannot take the blame for injuries or inconveniences arising out of actions outside the organizers instructions and acts of nature.
2)   Simply put, stay with the group. Do not rush far too ahead or lag too behind. We understand that everyone has a different stamina and we try to keep the group bound together.
3)   Do not wander off from the main trail. Whenever there is no established trail, strictly stay with the group. Be within the sight of the person ahead of you and the one behind you. It helps.
4)   One must understand that the group leader is responsible for the entire group and may have to take some tough decisions at times. If one expects a memorable experience with us then we expect full cooperation and discipline. To sum up, the leader’s decision will be final and binding on all offbeaters.

5)    Finally, the non arguable part. Smoking and other forms of tobacco use and alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited.

Regards,
Team OffBeat Sahyadri

Hi Mates, We at Trek Mates India are glad to invite you for a One day Monsoon Trek to Chinchoti Waterfall , Vasai on 1st September '13, Sunday.

Grade : Easy

Chinchoti Falls :

Chinchoti falls are generally visited by picnickers through Kaman village on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. Very few people know the jungle path through Tungareshwar. In fact there are two jungle routes meeting at different spots near Chinchoti waterfalls. The track is narrow jungle path and one can easily get lost without the help of escorts. The sound of the rains drops and orchestra of insects gives an eerie but adventurous feeling throughout this trek. You hear sound of watercourses trundling down rock faces chatting at a high frequency before it comes in your view. This is the midpoint of the trek to Chinchoti. From this point you will be crossing the stream on few occasions to reach the main waterfall. The journey is a thrilling experience and the waterfall is a beauty. Pratapgad consists of two forts - an upper fort built on the top of the hill and a lower fort immediately below on the south and the east. Surrounding areas can be easily taken guard from the fort on almost all the sides. The southern side is rocky while the eastern side has a strong outwork ending in the Afzal Buruj.

Hello Friends, We at Trek Mates India are glad to invite you for Flower Special Trek  to Ratangad on 15th Sept '13(Starting 14th night). Photographers heaven in September.

Some information about the place:
Type: Hill Fort
Grade: Medium
Endurance Level: Medium
Height: approx. 4255 ft.
Base Village: Ratanwadi

Trek Leader: Vikram Singh: 99877 61562

Ratan means Jewel in Hindi. This hill fort is indeed jewel in all the hill forts here in Sahyadri. It is located in the district of Ahmednagar and is located about 4255 feet above sea level. It lies in the Ajoba mountain range surrounded by great mountains of Kulang, Alang, Kalsubai, Katarabai, Ajoba and Ghanchakkar. Geographically Ratangad is at the banks of Bhandardara lake of Ahmednagar district. With views of lake and highest mountains in Sahyadris looks very much lost in time.
This fort offers offers fabulous views of majestic Sahyadri ranges. Right from Katrabai till Sandhan Valley. One of the most beautiful forts in Flowering September, Ratangad seems to shadowed by yellow Sonki Flowers.

At the base of this fort is ancient Lord Shiva (Amurteshwar) temple. About 1000 years old temple of Lord Shiva, the Amruteshwar Temple at Ratanwadi, is an absolute paragon of high class architecture of our ancestors.

Ratangad has still the remains of fort with bastions and stone walls. Cave on the top is cut from the rock face and can easily accomodate 25 people at a time. Water cisterns are usually filled with water throughout the year and trekkers use them as water source. Eastern side of the fort has some fortification left, one can see Rani mahal here. From the southern side on can see Katrabai and Ajoba fort very close. This side has also some fortification left, but most of it is damaged. Climbing up on the northern side, one can see natural orifice (hole in rock, locally called nedhe) in the rock face, mostly made by wind. This orifice is big enough to be seen from base of the fort and can accommodate about 6-7 people at a time. Strong winds can be experienced at this orifice. Climbing down the Nedhe to the western end of the fort leads closest to the Khuta pinnacle via Triambak Darwaza.
