A good one day Trek near Mumbai, Mahuli is at 2815ft above sea level . It is the highest point in Thane district. A popular trekking choice and a paradise for rock-climbers because of its pinnacles. This mountain complex is actually a group of two or more hills with common cols and pinnacles. The forest surrounding Mahuli has been declared as a sanctuary. The fort has been declared as a protected monument by the Archaeology Survey of India. The huge Mahuli hill can be seen right in front with the three connecting forts on its top. The leftmost fort is Mahuli- Chenderi/Bhandargad. The central one is Mahuli and the leftmost is chota Mahuli. Between the Bhandargad and Mahuli are the famous pinnacles Navra, Narvi and Karavli. One Day Trek to Mahuli can be done if the plan is to go till chota Mahuli. However covering the entire hill including the pinnacles will require you spend a night in the caves. Hello Vibers,We are glad to invite you for trek to Harishchandragad via Pachnai on 23-24th May 2015 Harishchandragad-The fort is quite ancient. Remnants of Microlithic man have been discovered here. The various Puranas (ancient scriptures) like Matsyapurana, Agnipurana and Skandapurana include many references about Harishchandragad. Its origin is said to have been in 6th century, during the rule of Kalchuri dynasty. The citadel was built during this era. The various caves probably have been carved out in the 11th century. In these caves are idols of Lord Vishnu. Though the cliffs are named Taramati and Rohidas, they are not related to Ayodhya. Great sage Changdev (one who created the epic "Tatvasaar"), used to meditate here in 14th century. The caves are from the same period. The various constructions on the fort and those existing the surrounding region point to the existence of diverse cultures here. The carvings on the temples of Nageshwar (in Khireshwar village), in the Harishchandreshwar  temple and in the cave of Kedareshwar indicate that the fort belongs to the medieval period, since it is related to Shaiva, Shakta or Naath. Later the fort was under the control of Moguls. The Marathas captured it in 1747. TreksandTrails is going for a one day monsoon trek on 26 July 2015 Sunday to Kohoj fort.

Grade: Medium
Time: Maximum 3 hrs from Waghote, base village
Location: Palghar region
Minium: 5 participants
Maximum: 25 participants
Cost: Rs 450.00 per participant

About the place:
Kohoj fort can be reached from the Vaghote village on Palghar - Wada road. At the base of the fort is a lake which gives beautiful reflection of the fort. It takes 2 hours approx from the village to reach the plateau. On the plateau of the fort, a temple of Lord Shankar and 3 groups of water cisterns can be seen. Fortification and remains of settlements also can be seen at some of the places. On the way that stretches from the right side of the temple up the hill, there are three large water cisterns; two of which contain potable water. On the top of this hill we come across a bastion and a temple of Lord Hanumana. There many natural pinnacles formed due to wind-erosion, two of them are man-shaped pinnacle which is one of the greatest wonder of nature’s creation. Very few of the historical evidences are coherent to this fort. Looking at its well-dug water cisterns, the fort can be said to be belonging to the Bhoj-period but no such evidences are available. In 16th century, Portuguese captured this fort from the King of Gujarat. They constructed fortifications and bastions on this fort. Later, in 18th century, Peshwe conquered this fort in their campaign of 1737. Afterwards the fort remained under the British rule.

Hello Mates, We at Trek Mates India are glad to invite you all for a Easy Level Night trek to Anjaneri Fort on 10th May 2015. (Starting on 9th May , Saturday Night)

Some details about the Fort:

Type : Hill Forts
Height : 4200 ft
Fort Range : Trimbakeshwar
District : Nashik
Grade : Easy

( *Pics from Bibhas Hazari)
Anjaneri Fort :The fort of Anjaneri, being the birthplace of lord ‘Hanuman’, has a great historical importance. Lord Hanuman was son of Maharaj 'Keshari' and ‘Anjanimata’ also known the son of ‘Pavan Dev’ (the wind), and hence the fort is called as ‘Anjaneri’. Anjaneri is one of the important forts in the ranges of Trimbyakeshwar near Nashik.

Anjaneri village is at a walking distance of 10 to 15 minutes from Anjaneri Phata. Two pinnacles called ‘Navara’ and ‘Navari’ can be seen from Anjaneri village.
On the way from Anjaneri village to the fort some carvings can be seen in the caves near the Ashram on top. The carvings are intriguing and eye catching. The caves and the inscriptions are believed to be from the Jain followers.

( *Pics from Bibhas Hazari)

The temple of ‘Anjani Mata’, a big marvelous temple devoted to the mother of Lord Hanuman, is another attraction. The temple is quite big. It is a proper place to accommodate on the fort.
At a certain distance from this temple two different ways can be seen. The way to left hand side takes us directly to ‘Seeta cave’ within 10 minutes. This cave is made up of two rooms. 10 to 12 people can stay here comfortably. There are many carvings inside the cave.

( *Pics from Bibhas Hazari)
Another way takes us directly to citadel, where one more temple of ‘Anjani Mata’ can be seen. It takes 20 minutes to reach this temple. This temple is also quite big. The perimeter of the fort is very large.

Naldurg Fort:
It is believed that the fort was built by Nalaraja (The King Nala). The fort and the city are named after him. The fort was built in the period of the Chalukya kings of Kalyani. Naldurg is the biggest land fort in Maharashtra. It has 3 km long fortification wall and 114 bastions. The bastions of Naldurg are special in shape; we can see variety of shapes such as Hexagonal, Quadrilateral, Semicircular or even in shape of petals of a flower

The Naldurg fort is one of the important ground forts in the Marathawada region. It represents a fine example of the medieval architectural style. The fort is an interesting place which encloses a knoll of basalt rock which juts out into the valley of the small Bori River. Along the rest of the cliff on three sides ran fortifications. A bastion is firmly built out of basalt and is large enough to carry heavy guns. The entire circumference is about a mile and a half.
