Unfurl the Indian Tricolour on 15th August on Kang Yatse Peak in Ladakh
Ladakh has several fascinating peaks to its credit, Kang Yatse being one of them. At a height of about 6400 meters, the trek to the peak is adventurous and arduous. It takes you through some amazing valleys, some beautiful rivers and some really quaint villages that give a glimpse into the local life of people there.
Last year LAFL hoisted the Indian Flag simultaneously at 3 summits on 15th August – Mt. Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Stok Kangri peak (Ladakh) and Peb Fort (Maharashtra). Following this tradition, this year we will summit the Kang Yatse peak on 15th August and hoist the Indian Flag. Join us in this expedition.
Charges: Rs 25,324 – 9 days and 8 nights

Harishchandragad, Maharashtra's 2nd highest point at 4665ft. is our next Camping spot.
The area above is quite old and by that we mean our ancestors had been occupying this place since almost 40,000 BC. The present buildings seen today which comprise of religious and military structures are almost a thousand years old. The fort has played a major part in the administration and protection of the Malshej Ghat area.
While the age of war and conquest is now over, the religious structures stand as a testimony to the strong culture and faith of the local people who still continue to visit the Temple of Harishchandreshwar and take some rest in the nearby caves after a tiring pilgrimage.
It's fun to know that our ancestors who lived here were part of the Hunter- Gatherer society, so all their basic needs of food, clothing and shelter were provided for by Nature without them having to farm or work for long hours. The only work they had to do was to walk around and hunt or gather what was edible or useful. Such lucky people!
Interestingly, almost 40,000 years later, even today in the Industrial Age, some locals re-live their lives the way their ancestors did. Braving the monsoon rain and winds some locals during their free time trek up the mountain for almost 3 hours, with a simple thick blanket-raincoat protecting them, just to collect some fruits and leafy vegetables found at a specific altitude for their family's afternoon lunch. Such episodes teach us how even though time changes through material things, time does not change when it comes to our cultural identity.
Speaking about culture- Heaven and Hell are still a very big part of today's culture as it has been for thousands of years. In common terms we picture hell as a place with an all consuming fire where all evil takes place and picture heaven as a place with endless clouds, filled with welcoming people and an atmosphere of peace and serenity.
But how do we know and imagine all of this?
Well we can't answer that, but what we can do for sure is give you a glimpse of Heaven on Earth!
Sounds crazy?
Then what you're going to see is going to be crazier!
Join us, Swadesi Treks this 10th and 11th August, 2016 (Wednesday & Thursday) as we take you on our fifth camp and stay the night in a 1000 year old cave dedicated to Lord Ganesha, complete with a beautiful rock- cut statue of him.

THINGS TO BE CARRIED:
Our aim is to show you how to camp, and not take you on a camp. Hence, there are a few things that are ESSENTIAL to be carried by Each Person so that we are successful in our endeavor and you have a smile on your face till the very end 🙂
Oh, and those that aren’t essential can be cut down on depending on your personal preference of adapting. But remember, Always Pack Light !
-Bag: (Essential)
A SMALL sturdy backpack that keeps your hands free with a good capacity to store ALL your belongings is the best. Also, by folding your clothes and linen and arranging them properly helps distributing the weight to your back, keeping the bag light.
-An Open Mind: (Essential)
Remember, mother nature and the outdoors are unpredictable. Despite the best preparations, due climatic or local factors our schedule may not go as planned but would work in the best interest of the Campers as decided by the Organizers. In such an event spirits mustn't get dampened but be eager to explore something new.
Every journey teaches us something new about the rural life of the people, as we travel using local transport one should be open to the situations we come across and learn from them.
– Hydration: (Essential)
MINIMUM 4 lts of water at all times (Electral or Glucon-D mixed with a liter or two spares the dehydration).
– Light : (Essential)
A powerful torch with extra batteries.
– Footwear: (Essential)
Strong and comfortable Shoes. Slippers can be worn once we’re settled down.
– Comfortable clothing:
Considering the Monsoon, 2 T- shirts and 2 Shorts should be ideal. Don’t forget those underwears.
The night will be really cold so a light warm blanket would be really useful. Be sure to pack them in a plastic bag so that they remain dry.
– Toiletries:
A good mouthwash, hand sanitizer and tissues. Helps in rationing water and keeping it light.
-Light Food:
While some like to sleep at night, there are some who like to stay up talking to people. That’s when those packets of chips, biscuits, samosas and munchies come out. We love this part too! Apart from the delicious stuff some people get, conversations spark too and before you know it, its sunrise!
– Some extras:
Old newspapers and a few extra plastic bags (to keep valuables dry) have many uses. Be sure to pack in a few.
