1-day Sunday Trek To Bhimashankar on 31 July 2016

1) Travel in a non-AC hired vehicle from Mumbai to Base village of Bhimashankar & back.
2) Breakfast of zunka bhaakar & tea-coffee in the hills.

Bhimashankar is one of the 12 Jyotirlings of India, a pilgrimage place approximately 3500 feet high up in the hills. The area around Bhimashankar is covered with thick dense jungle. The Maharashtra Government has also declared it a Sanctuary.

1 Day trek to Kothaligad-Peth Fort
othaligad-Peth Trek
Grade: Medium
Location: Karjat region
Kothaligad (also called Kotligad or Kothligad) is a small Fort (3100 ft) is situated to the east of Karjat near Karjat-Murbad Road.
It is also known as the Fort of Peth because of its vicinity to Peth village at its base.
There is a small temple and large cave at the base and a chimney like tunnel to the top of the fort.
The locals say that this is not actually a fort but a sort of lighthouse from where the directions were given to know the advancements of the enemy.
In fact, it can be called a watch tower to keep a vigil on the Mawal area in the greater province of the Marathas.
Itinerary:
Catch 06:10 AM Karjat Local from CST
Reach Neral by 07:45 AM
Reach Ambivali Village (Base Camp) by around 8AM by local transport
Destress and Rest for a while and start the ascend by 08:45AM
Reach Peth Village by 10AM and reach the fort by 11 AM
Relax, Click photographs and enjoy the cool air for about 1-1 and a half hour and then start the descend
At 1PM start the descend and reach Peth Village by 2
Reach Ambivali by 3PM.
Head towards Karjat by local transport and catch the CST local, reach CST by 6:30 PM(tentative)
Things to carry:
Please Carry your own Lunch and biscuits and chocolates to avoid fatigue on the way.
1. Luggage packed in big good trekking sack, all luggage wrapped in plastic bags to avoid getting wet (compulsory)
2. Complete spare set of clothes & socks
3. Water bottle (atleast 1 ltr) compulsory
4. Electral/ Glucon-d energizers and personal medication
5. Rainwear
6. Good trekking shoes or Good Floaters (Sandals, Chappals not permitted)
7. Camera, Binoculars (Optional) – protect it properly from getting wet

Tung Fort: This fort was built with an intention to keep watch on transport from Bor Ghat. From this fort we can easily locate Lohgad, Visapur & Pavan Maval.
Korigad Fort: Korigad is built near the Savashni Ghat, which connects Lonavla and Pali. This fort is well known due to its fortification that is still intact.
To visit the forts in this region, one needs at least 3-4 days leisure.
One can also go for a cross-country trek which includes Korigad, Ghangad, Tailbaila Walls, Sudhagad and Sarasgad.
ACTIVITIES : Climb to Tung (Kathingad). Grade: Easy.(1 hr trek) Climb to Korigad. Grade: Easy (1 hr trek)
GROUP : Age groups: 8 to 27 years. Age group mentioned is re-commendatory. Others can join if they are physically fit, and at their own risk and responsibility.
TRAVEL : Private bus from Dadar East (State Bank of India, Opp Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya) 0600 AM. Return 19.30 Dadar East.
Wear: T-shirt, light pant, windcheater/ light raincoat, cap.
No shorts. Thick soled shoes. No chappals or sandals please.
Carry: 1 set dry clothes, towel, napkin, Lunch, Light snacks, 2 ltr water bottle. Personal prescribed medication. Binoculars and camera optional.
Pack everything in plastic ziplock bags.
Backpack only.
