Trek Mates India invites you to Trek to Bhimashankar via Wajanrti - Khetoba Ghat - Bhorgiri on 9th - 10th April 2016.   Key Information about the place Bhimashankar Via Wajantri – Khetoba Ghat – Bhorgiri Date : 09th-10th April 16 Type: Hills Grade: Medium Place: Kamatpada – Bhorgiri – Khandas   Bhimashankar Via Wajantri – Khetoba Ghat - Bhorgiri   Bhimashankar is one of the 12 Jyotirlings of India, a pilgrimage place approximately 3500 feet high up in the hills. The area around Bhimashankar is covered with thick dense jungle. The Maharashtra Government has also declared it a Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is small (only about 100 sq. km's), but it is home to a wide variety of animals Leopard, Sambar, Barking deer, Porcupines, Grey Junglefowls, Wild pig, Hanuman langur, Rhesus macaque and Flying Squirrel etc. The sanctuary is famous as the home of a highly endangered subspecies of the Indian Giant Squirrel – Shekharu (Ratufa indica elphistoni), which is also the state animal of Maharashtra.     Shiva Temple: The temple of Bhimashankar is around 1200 – 1400 years old and is built on the Hemad Panthi style. There are very beautiful sculptures and paintings on the roof and pillars of the temple. At the front of the temple hangs a huge metal bell cast in 1729. There is also a 15-20 feet high "Deepmala" or lamppost in the outer corridor of the temple. There is also an inscription on stone on this lamppost. It is to be noted that the original name of the river Chandrabhaga at Pandharpur is Bhima. This Bhima River originates at Bhimashankar.   Gupt Bhimashankar : There is a water stream route going down from the left of the Ram temple. Taking that route, we enter a thick jungle. We reach a temple around 25 minutes through this route. A route going toward the waterfall, left of this temple, leads to the "water sculpted""Shiva Linga" under this waterfall. This is called the Gupt Bhimashankar. There is a huge waterfall at this place.   Itinerary of the ev... Read more

Dear friends we invite you for Night Trek to Harischandragad by MumbaiRangers on 24 April 2016 Leaving saturday night 23 april 2016 Ascend and descend via Pachnai.   Harischandragad is one of the most visited forts in Western Ghats. If you are trekking in Sahyadri for several years and you haven't visited Harishchandragad then you haven't trekked enough. This enormous fort has 7 routes and during this trek we will be doing most simple route ie Pachnai Route. Its the easiest way to explore Harishchandragad without facing much exhaustion. Pachnai route might be the simplest route but its very scenic. Since it does not take out your breath, you are more appreciative to your surroundings.   Harishchandragad: The fort is quite ancient, considered to be from the medieval period. The Great sage Changdev (one who created the epic Tatvasaar), used to meditate on Taramati/Rohidas in 14th century. The caves are also from the same period. Harishchandragad was captured by the Marathas in 1747 from the Moguls.   Konkan Kada: The most interesting point on this fort is this cliff, which has always fascinated many people from many years. The cliff faces west and looks down upon the Konkan with a breathtaking view of the surrounding region and sunset. This cliff is not just vertical; it is an overhang, almost like a cobra's hood.   Kedareshwar: The cave of Kedareshwar has a big Shivlinga, which is totally surrounded by water. Some Information about the Fort: Height of Fort – Harischandragad -1424m (4671ft) Base Village- Pachnai. District & Region- Ahmednagar, Malshej Ghat Grade: Easy (2.5 hrs trek).
