Mount Kalsubai - The Highest Peak of Maharashtra Height: 5400 ft. Grade : Easy Endurance:Medium Location: Igatpuri Kalsubai is the highest peak of the Sahyadris, the Everest of Maharashtra. At the summit is a small temple of Kalsubai. This being the highest peak, it commands a beautiful view.The vastly spread out backwaters of Bhandardara attracts ones attention from the top. To the north of the mountain range forts such as Ramsej, Harihargad, Brahmagiri, Anjaneri, Ghargad, Bahula, Tringalwadi, Kavnai can be seen. To the east one can spot Aundha, Vishramgad, Bitangad, to the west Alang, Madangad, Kulang, Ratangad (south west) and to the south Pabhargad, Ghanchakkar, Harishchandragad can be seen. Since Kalsubai is extremely famous, enough effort has been made to make this trek easy. There are steel railings, chains and ladders at places where it is difficult to climb. General Information:The fort is about 2000 years old.Ratangad has a natural rock peak with a cavity in it at the top which is called 'Nedhe' or 'Eye of the Needle'.Ratangad was captured by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and was one of his favorites. DarkGreen Adventures (DGA) invites you for the most beautiful and adrenaline-charged range trek in Sahyadris. This trek connects two of the most beautiful forts of Sahyadris - Ratangad and Harishchandragarh through Katrabai pass which connects Igatpuri region and Malshej region. A night will be spent amidst Kumshet village. Ratangad, Jewel of forts, was Shivaji Maharaj's favourite fort. The trek to Ratangad is through riverbeds, thick canopy, steel ladders and thick grass. At the top of the fort, there is a huge hole in the mountain caused by years of wind erosion. It offers breath-taking views of surrounding peaks such as Kalsubai, AMK, Ajobagad. Around half way to Ratangad there is a cross trail which goes to Harishchandragarh. The major attraction at Harishchandragarh is KokanKada cliff which is not just vertical, it is an overhang like a cobra's hood. It's beyond description and one must see it to experience the nature's architecture. In evening the sunset provides the divine feeling of being in the heaven.   Grade: Medium   Brief Itinerary: 24th December, Thursday 20:45 - Catch Kasara fast local starting from CST at 20:52 (Dadar-21:06, Thane-21:33). Try to board second compartment from CST-end 23:05 - Reach Kasara which is the final meeting point. Move to Ratanwadi in a jeep.
