Grade : Easy Endurance:Medium Location: Igatpuri Kalsubai is the highest peak of the Sahyadris, the Everest of Maharashtra. At the summit is a small temple of Kalsubai. This being the highest peak, it commands a beautiful view.The vastly spread out backwaters of Bhandardara attracts ones attention from the top. To the north of the mountain range forts such as Ramsej, Harihargad, Brahmagiri, Anjaneri, Ghargad, Bahula, Tringalwadi, Kavnai can be seen. To the east one can spot Aundha, Vishramgad, Bitangad, to the west Alang, Madangad, Kulang, Ratangad (south west) and to the south Pabhargad, Ghanchakkar, Harishchandragad can be seen. Since Kalsubai is extremely famous, enough effort has been made to make this trek easy. There are steel railings, chains and ladders at places where it is difficult to climb. This trek connects two of the most beautiful forts of Sahyadris - Ratangad and Harishchandragarh through Katrabai pass which connects Igatpuri region and Malshej region. A night will be spent amidst Kumshet village. Ratangad, Jewel of forts, was Shivaji Maharaj's favourite fort. The trek to Ratangad is through riverbeds, thick canopy, steel ladders and thick grass. At the top of the fort, there is a huge hole in the mountain caused by years of wind erosion. It offers breath-taking views of surrounding peaks such as Kalsubai, AMK, Ajobagad.
