In the year 1635-36, in difficult circumstances Shahaji Raje transferred himself with Jijabai and Shivaji to Mahuli. Khan Jaman, son of Mahabat Khan beleaguered this fort. Shahaji Raje asked for help to Portuguese. They refused and Shahaji Raje surrendered himself. Shivaji took this fort from Mughals on 8 Jan 1658. In 1661 it was given back and was won again by Shivrai. In treaty of Purandar, in 1665, Marathas lost these forts again. The Moghal sardar Manohardas Gaud was the in charge of this fort. He did much construction on the fort. In Feb 1670, Shivaji Maharaj tried to conquer Mahuli, but failed. Thousand of Marathas were killed by Moghals. It was a bad blow to Marathas. Even after this victory, Manohardas Gaud, the chief of the fort gave up his position and a new chief Alveerdi Beg was appointed. On 16 June 1670, after two months, Moropant Pingle conquered the forts and Mahuli, Bhandargad and Palasgad became part of Swarajya. Dear Friends we invite you all for MumbaiRangers Monsoon One day Trek To Sondai Fort on 19 July 2015. Little Info About The FortType : Hill fortsFort Range : MatheranDistrict : RaigadGrade : MediumBase Village : SondewadiTrek Leader : Veda agarwal Sondai Fort:Sondai is not popular or unknown fort, stands approx 6kms of Karjat overlooking the Karjat-Chauk highway and offers a beautiful view of Morbe Dam, Prabalgad, Irshal, Rajmachi, Songiri forts and Matheran mountain range. This was used as watch tower. The base village of Sondewadi stands on a considerable height. There are 2 water cisterns on machi (at the base of the pinnacle) and steps are carved out of rocks to go on the topmost point where an idol of Sondai Devi stands. Two more water cisterns are on the way and has potable water. Two missing steps in the rock makes one to climb a small patch of 15 feet but proper hand holds and foot steps are available and that makes it easy even in monsoon. Wavarle is another village from where a bit difficult approach to the fort passes through the dense forest. Overall it's an ideal one day hike for new comers in the trekking field. A pleasant surprise away from Mumbai's concrete jungle Let us visit one of the stress-free and closet trekking spot, which offers an excellent opportunity to experience a different day for the season.Tungareshwar Wild Life Sanctuary is a part of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park but lies in the mainland. The ecosystem is more deciduous forests with some evergreen patches and forms a corridor for the animals between SGNP and Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is crowded and polluted because of the pilgrimages traffic to the Tungareshwar temple inside. But most of the parts of this forest are left untouched by these people. Tungareshwar is at an altitude of about 2177 feet, one of the mountain plateaus in Vasai. The starting point is the highway junction, which is about a kilometer from the base at the base there is a forest check post from this point onward starts the actual trail of Tungareshwar. After about a 3 km hike and walking through two streams (Only in monsoon) you reach the temple... Visitors frequent the Sanctuary and by littering, they cause hazards for the fauna even the areas in the park not frequented are highly affected.SECR, we consider ourselves part of nature and we owe a lot to our mother nature So instead of just going for trek and increasing our carbon footprint, we will be collecting plastics and other non-biodegradable waste as a part of our cleanliness drive. We will try create awareness about the problems dangers we would have to face if pollution and littering is not stopped. We also request the locals/Pilgrims/Visitors to take care and not to throw rubbish especially plastic s on roads but to collect them and dispose it in proper place. Plastic thrown around is eaten by animals harming them and also pollutes the local environment The registration fees is Rs. 50 (exclude everything) The acknowledgement certificate of participation will be provided later. (Cost on actual basis, u buys your own train return ticket to Vasai and other trav... Read more
