Posted: 25 May 2015 01:15 AM PDT Lahaul-Spiti valley in Himachal is a place of wonder. Spiti in Tibetean means the Middle land as it is located between Tibet and India, and it retains a very strong Buddhist culture. Lahaul is greener and fertile, with a mass of uniform high snowcapped peaks and even glaciers. Rivers of Chanda and Bhaga cut through the mountain ridges thus making it more prone to vegetation. Also it is lower in altitude.Spiti is a high altitude cousin of the same characterized by barren lands, denudated rock faces, hostile roads and bone chilling temperature. However it also boasts of ancient monasteries, not the glossied ones like in Ladakh, but those that have retained their stoic nature housing a treasure trove of ancient flags, thankas and prayer wheels. Quaint villages dot the highway, and landscapes that are a photographer's dream.Spiti Lahaul is also mostly a journey into yourself. Long drives, a hostile landscape all around you and a few good companions should make it a journey you will never ever forget. The trip is designed around exploring this magical land, village walks, monastery trails, bicycle days and slowly soaking in the culture and feel of this magical land in the Himachal.Highlights of the trip will be:1. Camping in the beautiful village of Jispa. Alpine slopes surround you and the Bhaga river flows nearby in all its fury. Spend a day exploring the greens. A picnic on the banks of the Bhaga river. 2. Exploring the highest village in Asia, Komic, situated at 14800ft above sea level. The Komic monastery there is perched atop a hill. Also going for village photo walks and spending the entire day there. 3. Spending a day (and a night) at the mesmerizing Chandertal Lake. Located at 14100ft, its name of the 'lake of the moon' is due to its crescent shape. A 45 minute trek will take us there. 4. Visiting Tabo monastery the oldest monastery in India. Discover the ancient paintings of the Indo-Tibetean art form. 5. Adventures galore. Right from Going past Rohtang, Kunzum ... Read more |
Posted: 24 May 2015 11:45 PM PDT The trail to this exotic fort is quite simple. We can reach the top of the pinnacle which is carved from inside forming staircase leading to the top. There is a huge cave, small temple and many water cisterns at the base of the pinnacle.History:The cave and the temple carvings date back to the 13th century. Not much is known about the history until the 18th cent. In 1716, this cave was captured by the British. Then later on, on November 2, 1817, it was recaptured by the Marathas under theleadership of Bapurao who belonged to the generation after Bajirao. It was recaptured by the British, on December 30, 1817, the very next month, under Captain Brooks. The British had the fort till 1862 as an outpost for vigilance on the surrounding valley and the hills all around it.Difficulty level: EasyMeeting Point: Karjat Station @ 6:20 PM on 6th June 2015Trek fees: Rs 850/-Cost includes: Dinner for SaturdayLunch for sundayBreakfast & TeaAccomodation/Tent stay at Peth VillageTravelling from Karjat to the base & back.Safety and other equipments required for the trek.Participants must carry:• 1 liter of water (at least)• Packed Dinner• Bedding/sleeping bags,sweater/windcheater• Extra pair of clothes (optional)• Towel, a napkin, Extra Pair of clothes• Good trekking shoes• Haversack to put all your things, so that your hands are free (avoid sling bags)• Camera (Optional)• Medicines that you require usually. Posted: 24 May 2015 03:28 AM PDT Visit the spectacular waterfall knows as Dudhsagar & Trekking in Jungle in Goa. Dudhsagar is one of the world's most exquisite falls. It lies high up in the Mandovi River's watershed and so are so spectacular during the monsoon season when the falls are transformed into one of the most powerful falls in India. Dudhsagar Falls is listed as India's fifth tallest waterfall and is 227th in the world at 310 m. The water plummets hundreds of meters (over a thousand feet) in large volumes during the rainy monsoon season, forming one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in Goa.There is also a legend associated with this waterfall. It is believed that a beautiful princess lived in the forest (near present day Dudhsagar Falls) in a palace. She loved and enjoyed bathing in a lake nearby and used to drink "sweetened milk" from her "golden jug" after finishing with her bath. One day while enjoying her jug of milk she found herself being watched by a prince, who was standing amongst the trees. Red with embarrassment at her inadequate bathing attire, she poured the jug of milk in front of him to form an improvised curtain to hide her body while the maids rushed to cover her with her dress. It is said that it is that sweetened milk that cascades down the mountain slope as Dudhsagar Falls to this day as a tribute to the virtue and modesty of the princess. This is equally scenic but less popular route. One has to get down at Kuhlem (Collem) railway station and walk towards the falls which is about 11 km away. It normally takes 2–3 hours to reach. The famous photograph of Trains passing through before the waterfalls can be seen in this route and also the complete stretch of the falls will be visible while you hike towards the waterfalls.Itinerary for the trip as below: -Day 1: SaturdayMeeting Point for Mumbai People :Reaching Pune @ 12:40 pm.Mumbai People can also opt for Shivneri Buses and Meet us @ Pune Railway StationMeeting Point for Pune People :Meeting point at Pune Rail...
