Bhimashankar is an ancient shrine situated in the hills of Sahyadri and  is one of the well known jyotirlinga’s of the 12 spread out all over India. In recent times it has gained tremendous significance since it was declared as “Wildlife Sanctuary”. The major attraction is The Indian giant squirrel or Malabar giant squirrel, (Ratufa indica) which is native to India. It is a large-bodied diurnal, arboreal, and herbivorous squirrel found in South Asia. It is called ‘Shekru’ in Marathi and is state animal of Maharashtra.

Itinerary:
Day 01: Saturday, 8th November 2014
  • Board the First Fast Train for Karjat leaving CST @ 06.16, Byculla @ 06.23, Dadar @ 06.30, Kurla @ 06.37, Ghatkopar @ 06.41, Thane @ 06.56, Dombivali @ 07.08, Kalyan @ 07.16, & halting at all stations thereafter.
  • For Local Train Time Table - http://go4mumbai.com/
  • In case you miss the train, Board the Mumbai Pune Intercity express leaving CST @ 06.40, Dadar @ 06.50, & Thane @ 07.12 Please note that local train ticket is not valid on this train. Moral of the Story: Do not get late & miss the Karjat Fast Local.
  • Alight at Neral station & proceed to base village
  • Post Breakfast start trek via Shidi Ghat & explore the Dense Jungle of Bhimashankar
  •  On reaching the top, Check In to Simple Dormitory style accommodation & Freshen up
  • Proceed for sightseeing & return back for an early Dinner.
Day 02: Sunday, 9th November 2014
  • Early to Bed, Early to Rise! Wake up call would be at 05.30AM
  • Proceed for sightseeing & return back in time for Breakfast
  • Start Trek back down after breakfast & reach the railway station by 05.00PM
  • Board Train for Mumbai & return home

 Important Notes:
  • The Hike/Trek to Bhimashankar is graded as Medium because of the long hike up the fort; The endurance grade is medium as it takes a good 6 hours to get on top
  • Small group size has multiple advantages while trekking which includes the group moves faster, better interaction & coordination between all participants, & in case of this particular trek Higher chances of sighting more birds & animals.
Our Belief System:
  • Possession and/or consumption of Alcohol will not be permitted & flouting of this basic rule will lead to immediate expulsion from the group.
  • Smoking will only be permitted after consultation with the Skipper and the person will have to move away from the group to smoke.
  • The Skipper’s decision will be final and binding on all members. No Arguments will be entertained.
  • Each member will be responsible for his/her own safety and baggage.
  • Please do not wear any jewelry or gold chains/rings.
  • Please do not litter or pluck/trample the flowers cos we believe in the saying, “Leave only footprints, Take back only memories”
