Waterfall Rappelling:
Rappelling or Abseiling means “to rope down”. Rappelling is a technique to slowly come down a rock face using a low-stretch rope. Hikers use the technique of rappelling when the cliff is too steep to descend. The descend is done with the help of safety equipments like helmets – harness – gloves - anchors and other gears.
In waterfall rappelling – under the guidance of a trained professional, one has to descend the rock patch in a gushing flowing waterfall, pouring water on us as we descend.

Pragmatic Prabalgad 19th July with Gaia Eco Tours

Monsoon Greetings!!!

Prabalgad is a fort located in between Matheran and Panvel, visible from the Mumbai Pune expressway. The fort is located at an elevation of 2300 feet 15 km east of Panvel city. It is located on a plateau very close to Matheran, but unlike, Prabalgad fort does not have a good source of water supply. It was known as 'Muranjan' until it was taken over and renamed by the Maratha forces under Shivaji's rule. The fort has a sister fort, Irshalgad.
According to the natives of Prabal Machi, in 1658, Shivaji conquered Prabalgad Fort from the Mughals after establishing his powers in the Kalyan-Bhiwandi area. When Shivaji attacked the Fort, the Mughal sardar and fort chief Kesar Singh forced himself and the ladies in the Fort to commit suicide in order to save themselves from the Marathas. However, his mother along with her grandchild hid inside the Fort, fearing Shivaji, but not willing to die. Shivaji, known for his greatness, sent them to their village with true respect and dignity on finding them hidden.
We start our trek from base village "Thakurwadi". The village offers a pleasing view of green hued Prabalgad. By this route we reach Prabal Machi and further to the top after 3 1/2 hrs difficult level trek. On the way, one could possibly sight lots of monsoon flora and fauna. Shaam-E-Iftar – Ramadan

The ninth month of the Islamic calendar is Ramadan, a time for Muslims to focus on purifying their soul through prayer and self-sacrifice. During Ramadan, more than a billion Muslims around the world observe one of the Five Pillars (duties) of Islam: Fasting.
During Ramadan, Muslims traditionally fast daily from sunrise until sunset. In the evenings, the streets around Mohammad Ali Road in south Mumbai are flooded with people and the tantalizing aroma of meat being freshly roasted to feed the famished. It's not for the faint of heart though, as the road gets very crowded!

The kebabs are a highlight, and apparently the best ones are to be found at Haji Tikka, on Khara Tank Road in Bhendi Bazaar.

Pretty much every town India is worth an extra round of exploring during the holy month of Ramadan to seek out the special delicacies that appear this time of year after evening prayers.

You must try chicken bhoona, kaleji, gurda, bheja, bater, kheema ghotala, nalli nyahari and various kebabs...

Rules and regulations.
Do understand that we do not arrange picnics. It follows that if one seeks luxury and absolute comfort then we can hardly help them.

Sa-Hi Trekkers believe in being one with nature and that is possible only when we shed all city slicker attitudes. Of course by that we do not suggest that one should be ready for any kind of nonsense.
Utmost care is taken to ensure safety of the group and care is taken that no one is inconvenienced because of factors within our control.
We do expect our Sa-hi friends to understand group dynamics and leave at home their individuality. They should be prepared to share and care. That makes and all the physical and mental exhaustion forgettable and the trek itself become unforgettable! Trust us on this.
Now some basic codes:
Respect nature.
1) No littering! Carry your own trash. If you are found littering then we will request you to pick it up. Friends, it is really not nice to throw garbage around and it only reflects upon us. Will we do this to our own houses?
REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLE!
2) Do not disturb the flora and fauna. No making pretty bouquets of grabbed flowers and blooms. No feeding and intimidating birds and other animals. Think how you would feel if someone barges into your house and threatens you. The jungle is THEIR home. So, Capital N O= NO!
3) Remember, the mountain has own mind. Beware and do not make the mistake of taking him for granted. It sounds weird but it’s true. Never take nature as granted.
For your own safety
1) The organizers and you yourself are equally responsible for your safety. We cannot take the blame for injuries or inconveniences arising out of actions outside the organizers instructions and acts of nature.
2) One must understand that the group leader is responsible for the entire group and may have to take some tough decisions at times. If one expects a memorable experience with us then we expect full cooperation and discipline. To sum up, the leader’s decision will be final and binding on all Sahi Trekkers.
3) Finally, the non-arguable part. Smoking and other forms of tobacco use and alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited during trek.

Safety measure is to be followed on strict basis, anybody not following will be discarded on the spot.

Breakfree Journeys goes Trekking to Tringalwadi Fort - 19th July 2014

The monsoons though delayed, have now set in well in the Sahyadris. After exploring Peb, it is time to move further away to the lush green region of Igatpuri. Located 3000 feet above mean sea level, the fort of Tringalwadi offers a pleasant climb even for the first time trekker.

This Saturday, join us as we drive on the beautiful Bombay - Nasik highway, past the misty ghats of Kasara to reach the Tringalwadi dam. After visiting caves dating back to the 14th century, we will climb up to the fort.

Interested? Here's the plan!

The Breakfree Bus will leave from Borivali at 0515 and will take the Western Express Highway covering Goregaon-Andheri-Santacruz-Bandra and then will eventually join at Sion to take the Eastern Express covering Ghatkopar, Kanjurmarg and Thane.

We will be very happy to pick you up from any point on the given route.

Cost: Rs. 1200 inclusive of Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks Transport and whole lotta fun!

A maximum of 19 participants will be allowed on the trek.

To confirm: call us on 9820023362

We normally do not accept advance payments and rely on your oral/written confirmation to block seats. Therefore it is advisable that you consult your prior commitments before confirming a seat rather than cancelling/backing out at the last moment much to inconvenience of everybody.

Kindly note:

1. We recommend Action Trekking Shoes; running/gym shoes normally give away to the tough terrain and become useless.

2. Carry at least 2 litres of water with you along with some dry snacks, fruits and a pair of change.

3. Consumption of Alcohol, Narcotic substances and cigarettes is prohibited and may lead to possible expulsion from the trek, and an early expulsion from Natural Habitat.

4. Windcheaters are recommended, avoid carrying umbrellas.

To confirm, do call us up on 09820023362, FB RSVPs won't be considered as confirmations.

Fort/Hill: Thanale Caves and Sudhagad fort
Region: Pali
Grade: Medium
Height: 630 meters/2,030 feet
Expense: INR 1,300 for members and INR 1,340 for non members

About Thanale Caves and Sudhagad fort:
Thanale Caves is group of 23 Buddhist Caves located at Sudhagad in Raigad. These caves are simple and belong to first century B.C. It has two Chaityas, two Stupas and rest are Viharas. In recent times during fight with British Vasudev Balwant Phadke took shelter in this caves.

The origin of this fort is said to date back to the 2nd century B.C, the same age as the Thanale Caves and Khadsamble caves nearby. It was then called Bhrorapgad (after its presiding deity, Bhoraidevi). In 1436, it was captured by the Bahamani Sultan. In 1657, the Marathas took over and renamed it "Sudhagad"(the sweet one). It was a large fort and Sudhagad was considered by Shivaji as the capital of his kingdom. He surveyed it, but instead chose Raigad because of its central location.

In the regime of the Peshwas, the ‘Pantsachivas’ of Bhor became the custodians of this fort. After the annexation of princely states in 1950 the fort became patron less. As a result, the fort is in a state of ruins, even though it escaped the wrath of the British.

The expense includes transport to and from Dadar, dinner on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday morning, lunch on Sunday and YHAI expertise for the trek. Participants have to carry packed lunch for Saturday. Any expense other than mentioned is to be borne by the participants.

Around 350 km from Mumbai there is a small village in Sangli district, Battis Shirala. This village is situated at western part of Maharashtra, which is approximate 60km far from Sangli. Battis means ’32′, in Marathi. You may get confused why are using ‘Battis’ before the name Shirala. The reason is that Shirala is one of the Taluka in Sangli and there are thirty two small villages which comes under Shirala taluka, that’s why the name is Battis Shirala.

Though all the facilities are present in this village, but still agriculture is the main source of income in this village. All the people from this village and nearby village are very religious and I am saying this because of their very old festival which is Nag Panchami. The villagers celebrate “Nag Panchami” (Snake Worship) festival every year on 5th day month of Shravan according to the Marathi calendar, which means in the month of July or August. This festival is older than a century. The people from this village have faith on Lord Shiva and we know that Nag (Snake) is a friend of Lord Shiva in Hindu Religion. So, they celebrate this festival with full of purity and faith. The people catch snakes and worship them on this auspicious day.

Before going for snake hunting, people take kaul (permission) from Goddess Amba Bai by placing flower on her head. If the flower falls on left side, then that family allowed catching the snakes that year. It is believed that the only natives of that village are allowed to catch the snakes. On Bendur, a day approximately two weeks before the festival, farmers clean their cows and bulls, decorate them and feed them with some special food. After that the villagers go for snake hunting. Everyday villagers catch snakes by tracking their body marks in the soil. They catch the venomous India King Cobra as well. After tracking down the snake, they carefully dug down the earth where the snakes are hidden. The people who are catching snakes won’t take any special training for that. But they still work as professionals and they are so careful that snakes should not get hurt. They consider bad omen if they hurt snakes. There are 70-80 groups present in Shirala taluka who catch snakes every year for this festival and if they are lucky then each group catches 4-5 snakes. After catching snake, they keep them in a earthen pot and cloth is used to cover top of the pot and hang those pots inside the house. Villagers take them out every day and feed them with frogs and rats. This feeding is called Dav Pajane or feeding dew to a snake.

On the festival day:-
On the day of festival, each group takes their snakes to the temple of goddess ‘Amba Bai’ and takes blessings. Before that snakes are taken to the neighboring homes and where women worship these snakes in a traditional way. After that big rally organized by each group, in which they display snakes on tractors or open vehicles. Thousands of people from near villages and cities come to enjoy and take part in this festival. People dance and enjoy every bit along the rally. The rally continues till evening. Snakebite is very dangerous and it may causes death. So, safety measures are also taken care, because snakes are venomous, all the required medicines are available in village Government hospitals and other hospitals. Even policemen are there to control the crowd. Next day after the festival people release the caught snakes at the same place which they were caught.

History behind celebrating Nag Panchami:-
The Myth behind celebrating Nag Panchami is that, many years back one of the family from Shirala use to worship snake idol. When one of the Navnath (Gorakhnath) visited their place and he gave them permission to catch real snakes and worship them. Shirala also has Gorakhnath temple. Once in 12 years all the followers of Nath panti visit Shirala and leave one of them behind to take care of this temple for next 12 years. Shirala is also famous for one of the eleven Maruti temples built by saint Samartha Ramdas in 17th century. This is all about Shirala, which is blessed with historic backgrounds and the history hidden in it.
