Dear Friends, GREETINGS!!! After the grand successful inaugural trek, let us have a higher level of fun and in the process also learn some technical skills. We all love to play in water, particularly in the fresh cold water during monsoon. We enjoy the raindrops landing on our face, we take a dip in a river or a stream, we sit under a waterfall and feel it patting on our back. Flowing water never stops us from bringing our childish(but true) playful self out. Many of us also must looked at a waterfall and would have wondered what's behind that veil of water, how does it look and feel from the inside..!   Sahyamitra presents to you an opportunity to have a look at that curtain of water from the inside and from above with the dual event of 'Waterfall rappelling' and 'Flying fox '  Rappelling or abseiling is the safest, commonest and fastest way to descend vertically. When done in a waterfall, it's called waterfall rappelling.   Flying fox/zip lining is used to cross over a valley without going down and up again. It is still a common way of transporting people, cattle and provisions over a valley in the remote regions of Himalayas. So let us all come together and experience the Strength of Mother Nature.   Event Details:-   Venue: - WATERFALL RAPPELLING AND FLYING FOX  Bekhre Waterfall, Bhivpuri (before Karjat). Category : Technical event. Grade : easy Region: Karjat Base Village: Bekhre village Cost : -     Rs. 900/- For Rappelling only                   Rs. 1200 /- For both Rappelling and Flying Fox. (Cost includes transportation from Bhivpuri station and back, Breakfast, Lunch, Tea and snacks, hiring charges of technical equipment and experts) Date & Day: - 26th July 2015, Sunday Meeting Spot: - 26th Sunday morning AT  C.S.T.  STATION at 5:00am and proceed by the 5:20am train to Bhivpuri. 5:40am - Dadar 5:50am - Kurla 6:17am - Thane 6:48am - Kalyan   Age Limit: 12yrs and above for the activities. OUR NEXT TREK: Two Days Monsoon Trek to Rajmachi & Kondhane caves on 25th-26th July 2015.   Hello Buddies, Please read the trek plan thoroughly and carry all the necessary items mentioned below.   Some info about the Mountain: Rajmachi (826m/2710ft) is a tribal village located in the Sahyadri Mountains between Karjat and Lonavala. It is popular for its twin forts, ancient Shiva temple and a pond. The surrounding hills are adorned with several beautiful waterfalls in the monsoon season. The famous Kondhane caves situated at the foot of the Mountain are also worth a visit. Historically, Rajmachi fort gained strategic importance as it was used to guard the trade route of Bhor. Apart from the enjoying trekking, fun games, natural beauty and the ancient monuments, you will also meet some humble village folks and enjoy some delicious village food and ambience.   Tentative Trek Plan: Assembly: At Lonavala Railway Station @ 8:00am sharp on 25th July 2015 (Saturday)   (Lonavala can be reached by trains and ST buses from Mumbai. We recommend boarding train number 22105 Indrayani Express. It is advised to book confirmed tickets in advance on your own.)   We won't be waiting for latecomers!   9am: After breakfast, we shall start our trek from Lonavala to Rajmachi which is an easy trek of approx 14kms on flat mountain terrain, but will require good endurance. "RAIGAD ADVENTURE CLUB" arrange trek to "HARIHAR" fort trek on saturday 25th july 2015. little info of fort: - Height: 3676 ftRegion: IgatpuriPlace: Harihar fortRegion : NasikGrade: Medium Detail about fort: - Harihar fort appears to be rectangular in shape from its base village. It is built on a triangular prism of rock. Its three faces and two edges are absolutely vertical (90 degrees). The third edge towards the west is inclined at an angle of 75 degrees. A one metre wide rocky staircase with niches in it is carved out for ascending & descending the fort. There are 117 steps in all. After you climb the first rocky staircase (main entrance) we walk thru below a overhang with a sheer drop. Again one has to climb a set of steep stairs (with niches), then pass thru a staircase inside the rock (like Peth-kothligad fort) and then reach the top of the fort. The view from the top is excellent. After climbing these steps, we get up to the entrance door. The fort has got a tapering plateau with a raised level in the middle. There is a small temple of Lord Hanuman and Lord Shiva on the plateau. A small pond is there in front of this temple. Water from this pond can be used for drinking. Making headway from here we come across a palace having two rooms in it. 10 to 12 persons can be accommodated in this palace. One of the vertical drops of the fort facing the Nirgudpada village is called 'Scottish kada', perhaps because it was climbed for the first time in November 1986 by Doug Scott, the legendary Himalayan mountaineer & took him two days to do the climb. This cliff is about 170 meters in height. Full Itinerary of trek: - 25th july saturday : - catch 00:10 am CST-Kasara slow local. More Abt RajmachiRajmachi is a small village in the rugged mountains of Sahyadri in India. There are two forts which were built by Shivaji Emperor during 17th century. It is a famous spot for trekking. It is a 20-25 km trekking distance from Lonavla. Rajmachi fort is a strategic fort overlooking Borghat(ghat between Mumbai and Pune) which was a historical trade route. Rajmachi peak has two fortified structures - the Shrivardhan fort and Manaranjan fort. Rajmachi can be reached by 2 ways, the tough route from Kondivide village near Karjat and the other easy but long way route from Lonavala. In rainy season this place is filled with giant waterfalls and greenery. We will be taking the easy route. Shrivardhan and Manaranjan can also be considered as two separate forts. There is one small platue inbetween them. A temple of 'Bhairoba' is very beautiful. Shrivardhan is 'Bale killa' of Rajmachi. It is almost 3000 feet high. But it was mainly built to keep watch on Konkan area. The other - Manoranjan is 2700 feet high. Manaranjan consists of strong walls, 3 doors and many water tanks. One can see Ulhas river, Dukes Nose (Nagphani), Karnala ,Matheran, Mahuli and Bhimashankar etc. The old caves of 'Kondhavi' on Rajmachi fort are worth to see. Sanjay Gandhi National Park Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), previously Borivali National Park, is a large protected area in the northern part of suburban Mumbai city in Maharashtra State in India. It encompasses an area of 104 km2 (40 sq mi) and is surrounded on three sides by India's most populous city. It is notable as one of the major national parks existing within a metropolis limit and is one of the most visited parks in the world. The rich flora and fauna of Sanjay Gandhi National Park attracts more than 2 million visitors every year.   Kanheri Caves The Kanheri Caves constitute a group of rock-cut monuments that are located north of Borivali on the western outskirts of Mumbai, India. Located within the forests of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the caves are 6 km from the main gate and 7 km from Borivali Station. Kanheri comes from the Sanskrit Krishnagiri, which means black mountain. They were chiseled out of a massive basaltic rock outcropping. These caves date from the first century BCE to the 10th century CE. One hundred and nine caves have been carved from the basalt. Unlike the elegant splendor of the adjacent Elephanta Caves, the earlier cells are spartan and unadorned. Each cave has a stone plinth for a bed. A congregation hall with huge stone pillars contains the stupa, a Buddhist shrine. Farther up the hill are canals and cisterns, the remains of an ancient system that channeled rainwater into huge tanks. Once the caves were converted to permanent monasteries, the rock was carved with intricate reliefs of Buddha and the Bodhisattvas. Kanheri had become an important Buddhist settlement on the Konkan coast by the 3rd century CE. Most of the caves are used as the Buddhist viharas, meant for living, studying, and meditating. The larger caves were chaityas, or halls for congregational worship; are lined with intricately carved Buddhist sculptures, reliefs and pillars; and contain rock-cut stupas for congregational worship. The Avalokite... Read more

WTA CLUB....Invites You All For One day Trek to Sudhagad on 19 July 2015 INFO: SUDHGAD HEIGHT 2030 ft DISTRICT :RAIGAD GRADE:EASY MAXIMUM TIME TO REACH THE TOP :1.45 hrs Sudhagad is one of the ancient forts in Sahyadri. It was the glory of Bhor state. Initially, Sudhagad was called as 'Bhorapgad'. During empire of Shivaji Maharaj this fort was named as Sudhagad. This fort is approximately 590 meters in height. Sudhagad is a huge fort. It is called as the replica of Raigad. History : The 'Thanale' excavations in this area are nearly 2200 years old. This shows that Sudhagad may be that much ancient. The construction and the geographical significance indicate that some great rulers might have constructed the fort. According to the Puranas, Sage 'Bhrugu' had stayed here and he had established the temple of Goddess 'Bhorai' on this fort. Sudhagad was included in 'Swarajya' in 1648. It is described in old records as follows: "Malavji Naik Karake put the ladders in Sakharadara. Initially, Jadhav and Saranayak both climbed the fort under the guidance of chieftain 'Maloji Bhosale'. After that Haibatrao climbed the fort. 25 soldiers went ahead and killed the guards. Further the chief of the fort was killed in anguish and the fort was conquered." Shivaji Maharaj renamed Bhorapgad as Sudhagad. Later Sambhaji met Akbar (the rebellious son of Aurangjeb) in the 'Pachchapur village' situated at the base of this fort. Annaji Datto, Balaji Aavji Chitnis, his son Aavji Ballal and Hiroji Pharjand were all important persons in 'Ashta-Pradhan Mandal' of Shivaji Maharaj. Sambhaji has killed all of them in 'Parli' village near Sudhagad. At 2815 ft., this is a popular trekking destination and a paradise for rock-climbers because of many nearby pinnacles with interesting names like Vazir, Vishnu, etc., given by the local trekking and climbing fraternity. This mountain complex is actually a group of two or more hills with common cols and pinnacles. It is the highest point in the Thane district. The forest surrounding Mahuli has been declared as a sanctuary. Once Shahaji Raje, father of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, had this fortress under his belt. The fort has been declared as a protected monument.Besides an open Shiva temple there is a small perennial drinking water cistern on top, three caves of which the larger can be used as overnight shelter, like as on many other such natural hill forts of Maharashtra Western Ghats (Sahyadri Range). There is a stone arch historically known as the 'Kalyan Darwaja' but the dome of the arch is now broken. Wild Trek Adventure ,Invites you All For Roopkund Mystery Lake Trek on 28 Sept 2015 RoopKund Trek The period of operation : April to Dec Rating : medium Highest altitude-: 5029m This universe is full of astonishing miracles, mysteries & conundrums. When we talk about the beauty of 'Devbhoomi' i.e. Uttarakhand, a tiny but aesthetic region in India, the first thing comes into our mind is the alluring beauty of nature with piousness filled in the roots of it. But not everything is unambiguous; some mysteries, remains forever. One of such mysterious place is 'Roopkund'; located at an uninhabited high mountain region of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand, Roopkund Lake is also known as 'The Mystery Lake' or 'The Lake of Skeletons'. The particular place is situated at an expeditious altitude of around 5,029 meters (16,499 ft) in the heart of Himalayan Range. One of the most curious, mysterious and an amazing Trek destination of Rookund is well known throughout the whole world that is surrounded by rock-strewn glaciers and snow clad mountains. The depth of the particular lake is about two meters. There are many alleged stories present in the history of Skeleton Lake. The lake was first found by a British forest guard in 1942. It was also said that the skeletons were of Japanese soldiers who died while crossing that route during World War II.The skeletons are visible in the clear water of the shallow lake during a one-month period, when the ice melts. Along with the skeletons, objects like wooden artifacts, iron spearheads, leather slippers, rings etc. were also found. When a team from National Geographic magazine retrieved about 30 skeletons, flesh was still attached to some of the skeletons. One study identified the skeletons as those of Indians, and not of Japanese. Later studies placed the time of mass death around the 9th century AD (1200 years old). The main story behind its mysterious attraction belongs to 9th century as per the local legends, who alleges that the... Read more

About the Tour :  Korigad fort is located about 20 Kms away from Lonavla, in Pune district. It is about 929 m above sea level. There are two routes to reach to the top of Korigad, one from village PethShahpur and other one is from Ambavne village. Route from Pethshahpur is easier than the route from Ambavne village. We have to climb nearly 510 steps while going from Pethshahpur route. The route starting from the Bhairavnath Temple at Pethshahpur takes us to the top within 45-50 minutes and which enters through the Ganesh gate. Route starting from Ambavne village is very much slippery and it takes us to the fort through Ambavane gate. This fort was incorporated into his kingdom by Shivaji Maharaj along with the forts of Lohagad, Visapur, Tung and Tikona in 1657. On March 11, 1818, Col. Prother tried to take over this fort but even after a prolonged siege could not make any headway. Finally on 14 March, by igniting the stored ammunition by means of a loose cannon ball, he succeeded and this fort was conquered by British. There are two lakes on the top of the fort. A temple to its patron goddess Koraidevi also exists along with several smaller temples dedicated to Vishnu and Shiva. Koraidevi Temple has been recently renovated and has a 3 feet high Deepmala. The wall of this fort is completely intact and one can walk along its entire perimeter (about 2 km). Its massive gate is also intact. Several ruins of older structures within the fort still exist. We can also see some of the cannons lying on the fort. TreksAndTrails India- Waterfall Rappelling at Kondana Caves on 26th July 2015   Cost: 1050/- per person   Included - (Breakfast and lunch and karjat to karjat travelling.) Kondana caves in Karjat are a group of 16 Buddhist caves; Records suggest that these caves were excavated sometime during the 1st century BC. It is believed that during an earthquake in the early 1900s, much of the front, floor and stupa were damaged. This left the pillars in the chaitya suspended like huge stalactites from the ceiling. Large beehives hang at the entrance to the cave, so avoid smoking, or aromatic foods. If you follow this trail uphill, it will turn into a steep climb. TAT - one day trek to thrilling "HARIHAR" fort trek on saturday 25th july 2015 little info of fort: - Height: 3676 ft Region: Igatpuri Place: Harihar fort Region : Nasik Grade: Medium Leader: Suhas Patil Detail about fort: - Harihar fort appears to be rectangular in shape from its base village. Hi fellow Hikers/Organisers,
Recently visited Bhimashankar and faced unusual problem at the base village(Khandas).
We had prebooked our To and Fro local transport from Neral station to Khandas and back. There was no problem for Neral to Khandas however for the return journey, Local Jeep/Van drivers didn’t allow our transport vehicles to enter into the village for pick up. So we had to hire them for the return journey.
I am not sure if the problem is old for Khandas but felt to share it with you guys so you won’t face such problem again.
