Hello Girimitra,

From last year Girimitra Sammelan has started giving Financial assistance to Mountaineering organisation for Rock-Climbing & Himalayan Expeditions. This financial assistance will be continued this year also. Kindly submit the details by 23 June 2015.
(Please check attachment for application form)

Please Note:
1. This is not a competition. The financial assistance to be given by Grirmitra Sammelan is merely an incentive for expeditions and the total cost of an expedition has no bearing on the quantum of assistance to be provided.
2. The financial assistance would be given only after the completion of the expedition.
3. The expedition need not be successful for availing the assistance. Factors like difficulty level of the expedition, status of peak/pinnacle (unclimbed/climbed) and climbing techniques used etc will be considered.
4. There is no explicit mandate for the assistance to be given for a certain number of expeditions every year. If one expedition is found to be far superior than others, the entire resources sanctioned for a period can be given to it, even though there might be other expeditions vying for it. Similarly, if all the expedition entries are not upto the desired criteria or unsatisfactory, no assistance shall be given for the period.
5. It is mandatory to submit the supporting documents, photographs, videos, etc and other proofs if demanded by the committee.
6.  For submitting details of more than 3 expedition, kindly use the organisation letterhead.
7. The final decisions regarding award of  financial assistance to expeditions for that period will be taken by the Selection/Judging Committee appointed by the Girimitra Sammelan and its decisions would be binding upon all entrants.

Please spread this message.

Thanks & regards
Organiser, Girimitra Sammelan

Dear Trekkers, nature lovers, photographers- Night Trek to Kothaligad On demand from the trek lover's especially the Beginning Of Monsoon A "Night Trek" to Kothaligad(Peth). We निसर्गाच्या पाऊलखुणा.. Have organized a Trek to Kothaligad on 27th and 28th June 2015.. Little information about Kothaligad:- Kothaligad is a small Fort (3100 ft) situated to the east of Karjat near Karjat-Murbad Road in Maharashtra. It is one of the famous treks in the Karjat area, because of its small height and easy climbing. It is also known as the Fort of Peth because of its vicinity to Peth village at its base. There is a small temple and large cave at the base and a chimney like tunnel to the top of the fort. This pinnacle is carved from inside forming a staircase reaching the top. The cave and the temple carvings date back to the 13th century. Not much is known about the history until the 18th century. Then later on, on November 2, 1817, it was recaptured by the Marathas under the leadership of Bapurao who belonged to the generation after Bajirao. It was recaptured by the British, on December 30, 1817, the very next month, under Captain Brooks. The British had the fort till 1862 as an outpost for vigilance on the surrounding valley and the hills all around it.The locals say that this is not actually a fort but a sort of lighthouse from where the directions were given to know the advancements of the enemy. in fact it can be called a watch tower to keep a vigil on the Mawal area in the greater province of the Marathas. It is absolutely breathtaking to climb and to have a feeling of the engineering marvel being crafted when there were no engineers like today or even no PWD departments as well. only the foresightedness of the Maratha warrior has been behind the development of the watch tower standing atop the small but sturdy hillock. the stone is a sing... At an altitude of 690 m it is the last hill station before the coastal highlands of Goa  and a relatively unexplored one. Beauty of Amboli Ghat can't be Described in Words. Amboli lies in the Sahayadri Hills of Western India, one of the world's "Eco Hot-Spots"and it therefore abounds in a variety of fairly unique flora & fauna. In the hills of Amboli village lies the source of the Hiranyakeshi river, and an ancient Shiva temple (called Hiranyakeshwar) exists at the cave where the water emerges. The main attraction for tourists is the incredibly high rainfall (7 m average per year) and the numerous waterfalls and mist during the monsoons. Legend has it that there are 108 Shiva temples in and around Amboli of which only a dozen have been uncovered, one as recently as 2005. Amboli is quiet, unpolluted and the local residents are good natured and helpful. Gokak falls : The Gokak Falls is a waterfall located on the Ghataprabha River in Belagavi district of Karnataka, India. The waterfall is six kilometers away from Gokak. After a long winding course, the Ghataprabha river takes a leap of 52 metres (171 ft) over the sand-stone cliff amidst a picturesque gorge of the rugged valley, resembling Niagara Falls on a smaller scale. The waterfall is horse shoe shaped at the crest, with a flood breadth of 177 metres (581 ft). During rainy season, the thick reddish brown water sweeps far over the brink of the cliff with a dull roar that can be heard from some distance. There is a hanging bridge across the river, measuring about 201 metres (659 ft). Its height above the rock bed is 14 metres (46 ft). There is an old electricity generation station and electricity was generated here for the first time in 1887. The places that we will be visiting are: 1) Amboli Waterfall Main attracti... Read more

About the Tour :  Korigad fort is located about 20 Kms away from Lonavla, in Pune district. It is about 929 m above sea level. There are two routes to reach to the top of Korigad, one from village PethShahpur and other one is from Ambavne village. Route from Pethshahpur is easier than the route from Ambavne village. We have to climb nearly 510 steps while going from Pethshahpur route. The route starting from the Bhairavnath Temple at Pethshahpur takes us to the top within 45-50 minutes and which enters through the Ganesh gate. Route starting from Ambavne village is very much slippery and it takes us to the fort through Ambavane gate. This fort was incorporated into his kingdom by Shivaji Maharaj along with the forts of Lohagad, Visapur, Tung and Tikona in 1657. On March 11, 1818, Col. Prother tried to take over this fort but even after a prolonged siege could not make any headway. Finally on 14 March, by igniting the stored ammunition by means of a loose cannon ball, he succeeded and this fort was conquered by British. There are two lakes on the top of the fort. A temple to its patron goddess Koraidevi also exists along with several smaller temples dedicated to Vishnu and Shiva. Koraidevi Temple has been recently renovated and has a 3 feet high Deepmala. The wall of this fort is completely intact and one can walk along its entire perimeter (about 2 km). Its massive gate is also intact. Several ruins of older structures within the fort still exist. We can also see some of the cannons lying on the fort. 1.ABOUT PEB FORT:Peb is very close to famous hill station - Matheran. Located in the same mountain range as Matheran, 4 Km on west side of Neral on Mumbai - Pune highway, Peb fort is a enjoyable trek for a day's outing. The fort derives it name from the Goddess 'Pebi'; Peb is also called 'Vikatgad' for its supposed shape of the Elephant Headed God, 'Ganesh'. The trek to the top involves surmounting a small rock patch and a ladder. The fort is famous for its caves which are maintained by disciples of Swami Samartha and the meditation chambers carved out from the rock inside the mountain. To get inside the meditation chamber, one has to crawl through a narrow passage in the rock and then climb down into the meditation chamber. 2. HISTORY:It is assumed that this fort derived its name Peb from the 'Goddess Pebi' at the base of the fort. Historical references clearly indicate that ShivajiMaharaj used the caves on the fort as silos for grain storage. 3. Major Attractions a. Matheran Hill StationMatheran is a Hill Station in the Raigad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is a hill station in Karjat Tahsil and is also the smallest hill station in India. It is located on the Western Ghats range at an elevation of around 800 m (2,625 feet) above sea level. It is located around 90 km from Mumbai, and 120 km from Pune. Matheran's proximity to many metropolitan cities makes it a popular weekend getaway for urban residents. b. Nakhind'Nakhind' has a natural rock peak with a cavity in it at the top which is called 'Nedhe' or 'Nosehole; formed by natural erosion. Why is it called as Nakhind? Cause the hill has seems itself like a Human Nose. Nakhind is noted for its gentle slope and dense forest route. From one side of Nakhind we can see Chanderi Pinnacle. This gentle hill is excellent for relaxed, easy walks and nature lovers. It's a good trek in the monsoon or in the winter. c. Wild Trek Adventure ,Invites you All For Roopkund Mystery Lake Trek on 28 Sept 2015 RoopKund Trek The period of operation : April to Dec Rating : medium Highest altitude-: 5029m This universe is full of astonishing miracles, mysteries & conundrums. When we talk about the beauty of 'Devbhoomi' i.e. Uttarakhand, a tiny but aesthetic region in India, the first thing comes into our mind is the alluring beauty of nature with piousness filled in the roots of it. But not everything is unambiguous; some mysteries, remains forever. One of such mysterious place is 'Roopkund'; located at an uninhabited high mountain region of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand, Roopkund Lake is also known as 'The Mystery Lake' or 'The Lake of Skeletons'. The particular place is situated at an expeditious altitude of around 5,029 meters (16,499 ft) in the heart of Himalayan Range. One of the most curious, mysterious and an amazing Trek destination of Rookund is well known throughout the whole world that is surrounded by rock-strewn glaciers and snow clad mountains. The depth of the particular lake is about two meters. There are many alleged stories present in the history of Skeleton Lake. The lake was first found by a British forest guard in 1942. It was also said that the skeletons were of Japanese soldiers who died while crossing that route during World War II.The skeletons are visible in the clear water of the shallow lake during a one-month period, when the ice melts. Along with the skeletons, objects like wooden artifacts, iron spearheads, leather slippers, rings etc. were also found. When a team from National Geographic magazine retrieved about 30 skeletons, flesh was still attached to some of the skeletons. One study identified the skeletons as those of Indians, and not of Japanese. Later studies placed the time of mass death around the 9th century AD (1200 years old). The main story behind its mysterious attraction belongs to 9th century as per the local legends, who alleges that the ki... Read more

DESCRIPTION hiiii all adventure lovers, We are glad to invite you for one day trek to naneghat 5th  july 2015(sunday) Place: Naneghat Height: 2750 feet Base Village: Vaishakhare District: Thane Difficulty Level: Easy Endurance Level: Medium Region : Malshej Cost : 350/- per head Date : 5th july 2015   Charges including : morning breakfast & tea, travelling from  kalyan  to kalyan and all expertise charges including. General Information:   The first thing we can see after reaching Naneghat is the spacious cave of Naneghat. The ancient carvings, which are seen on the walls of the cave, remind us of the Satvaahan period. Here we find inscriptions in Brahmi script all over the cave. These indicate the magnificent era of the Satvaahans and their generosity. These inscriptions are gradually being destroyed, and only a part of it is remaining. The inscriptions are very precious, and are undergoing destruction due to the negligence of Archeology. The widely spread plateau of Naneghat is an astonishment. To the left the steps besides the cave lead us to the plateau and going to the right lead us to Nana's thumb. After climbing all the way to the bottom of the thumb, when we climb the stairs, we do not expect a big plateau. Thus this route leads directly to a higher altitude quickly, unlike Malshej Ghat, which goes all around the mountains. At the entrance to the Ghat is a big stone-made vessel like thing, in which coins as toll were put. Journey Details:- trek plan CST TO KALYAN 6:04 LOCAL # Code Station Distance Arr. Don't you think touching the clouds at highest peak of Sahyadris in Maharashtra It would be an awesome way of kicking off this year's trekking season Come join us for a trek to : "Kalsubai", "Because there are no limits.." Dear OffBeaters, OffBeat Sahyadri invites you for the a trek to Kalsubai via Indore, highest peak of Maharashtra on 28th June 2015, beginning on 27th night from Mumbai. Trivia Type: Peak Height: 1646 meters or 5400 Feet above MSL (Approx) Grade: Difficult Village: Indore. Kalsubai is the highest peak of the Sahyadris in Maharashtra. Kalsubai is situated in Ahmadnagar district at approximately 25-30 Km. South-East of Igatpuri. At the summit is a small temple of Kalsubai, which can seat just three people. At this superb height, the view is just marvellous. The vastly spread out backwaters of Bhandardara attract one's attention from the top. To the north of the mountain range forts such as Ramsej, Harihargad, Brahmagiri, Anjaneri, Ghargad, Bahula, Tringalwadi, Kavnai can be seen. To the east one can spot Aundha, Patta, Bitangad, to the west Alang, Madan, Kulang, Ratangad (south west) and to the south Pabargad, Ghanchakkar, Harishchandragad can be seen. It usually takes 3 hours to reach the top from Bari and 4 from Indore. Soon after leaving Bari, a small stream is crossed followed soon after by a Hanuman temple. The route from behind this temple takes the hiker straight to the summit. There are three iron ladders along this route. There is a well near the last iron ladder as one approaches the top. Treks and Trails India - One Day Trek to Kalsubai 5th July - Highest Peak Maharashtra Trek: Kalsubai SumitHeight: 5400 ft Region: Igatpuri Cost: Rs 900.00 per person About Kalsubai: Kalsubai with the height of 1646m [5400Feets] is famous as one of the highest peaks in Maharashtra. Kalsubai lies in the Sahyadri mountain range. This being the highest peak, it commands a beautiful view. Since Kalsubai is extremely famous, enough effort has been made to make this trek easy. There are steel railings, chains and ladders at places where it is difficult to climb. There is a symbolic temple at the top. It is said, that in the ancient times, a lady named "Kalsu" came to nearby Indorey village to work. However, somebody forced her to clean utensils and clean up the residence by force. So she left the place and eventually died at this spot. So comes the name, Kalasubai. A small temple is built here, in her memory. From the top of Mount Kalsubai, one can get great view of the Bhandardara Lake and Wison dam, immediately after the rainy season, the place is covered with variety of flowers. During the months October to November people neighbouring region organize a religious fair at this place. It usually takes three hours to reach the top from Bari. Soon after leaving Bari, a small stream is crossed followed soon after by a Hanuman temple. The route from behind this temple takes the hiker straight to the summit. There are three iron ladders along this route. There is a well near the last iron ladder as one approaches the top. The rest of the route is without water, so it is best to fill water bottles in Bari. It is an easy hike, but parts of it are quite steep in places. TreksandTrails, India - trek to Raigad Fort on 15 August 2015 –Saturday Summary: Name: Raigad Type: Hill Height: 2900 feet Grade: Easy Cost: Rs 1200.00 per person About: Raigad Fort is a magnificent hill fortress, situated in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. It lies approximately 125 km away from Pune and serves as one of the major excursion of the city. The fort once served as the capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji, the Great Maratha king, in the 1674. It was around this time only that Shivaji was crowned the King of a Marathi kingdom. Perched at an altitude of 1350 m (4530 ft) above sea level, Raigarh fort falls under the Sahyadri Mountain range of India. The main structures inside the Raigad Fort, which today stands mostly in ruins, comprise of the Queen's Quarters, Public Durbar, Watch Towers, Darwazas (gateways), etc. The Queen's Quarters consist of six chambers in toto, meant for the queen and her attendants. The main place situated inside the fort was largely constructed out of wood. However, apart from its base, made up of pillars, hardly anything else remains. One can also be witness to the ruins of the three watch towers, which were once used to spot any threat from a distance. The main entrance of the Raigarh Fort comprises of the Maha Darwaja, which is colossal and provided protection from the enemies. However, the king as well as his convoy used to move through the Palkhi Darwaja. The three dark and deep chambers, situated to right of the Palkhi Darwaja, are believed to have served as the granaries of the fort. One of the main attractions of Raigad Fort is a magnificent statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji, sited opposite the ruins of the main market avenue. The samadhi (tomb) of Shivaji and his dog Waghya is situated closeby.  Tentative itinerary for the Event is as given below: Meeting Points: Swami Narayan Mandir, Dadar (E) at 10:30pm on Friday or Pick up point near Vashi Main Bridge, at 11:15pm Travel by private vehicle till the base. It was the glory of Bhor state.Initially, Sudhagad was called as 'Bhorapgad'. During empire of Shivaji Maharaj this fort was named as Sudhagad. This fort is approximately 590 meters in height. About  Visapur fort. and bhaje cavesVisapur Fort is larger and also higher than Lohgarh fort. Now in ruins, its history is closely linked with that of Lohagarh. Making use of its higher position, the British troops in 1818 AD set up their canons on Visapur and bombarded Lohagarh, forcing the Marathas to leave the fort. Lohagarh has a long history. It was occupied by many dynasties: Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Yadavas, Bahamanis, Nizamshahis, Mughals and Maarathas. Lohagarh was captured by Shivaji in 1648 AD. but by the Treaty of Purandar he had to surrender it to the Mughals in 1665 AD. It was recaptured by Shivaji in 1670 AD and was used for keeping the treasury. Then on, the fort remained with the Marathas. Ultimately Lohagarh-Visapur was taken over by the British in 1818 AD.Within the fort are caves, cisterns of water. The ruins of a large stone-built house are known as the Peshwa's palace. In addition to a huge carving of Hanuman, there are also several temple dedicated to him scattered all over the place.
