TMI : One Day Monsoon Trek to Ratangad on Sunday, 19th July 2015.

Hello Friends, We at Trek Mates India are glad to invite you for a One Day Monsoon Trek to Ratangad on 19th July, Sunday 2015.

Some information about the place:
Type: Hill Fort
Grade: Medium
Endurance Level: Medium
Height: apprx. 4255 ft.
Base Village: Ratanwadi

Ratan means Jewel in Hindi. This hill fort is indeed jewel in all the hill forts here in Sahyadri. It is located in the district of Ahmednagar and is located about 4255 feet above sea level. It lies in the Ajoba mountain range surrounded by great mountains of Kulang, Alang, Kalsubai, Katarabai, Ajoba and Ghanchakkar. Geographically Ratangad is at the banks of Bhandardara lake of Ahmednagar district. With views of lake and highest mountains in Sahyadris looks very much lost in time

At the base of this fort is ancient Lord Shiva (Amurteshwar) temple. About 1000 years old temple of Lord Shiva, the Amruteshwar Temple at Ratanwadi, is an absolute paragon of high class architecture of our ancestors.

Ratangad has still the remains of fort with bastions and stone walls. Cave on the top is cut from the rock face and can easily accomodate 25 people at a time. Water cisterns are usually filled with water throughout the year and trekkers use them as water source. Eastern side of the fort has some fortification left, one can see Rani mahal here. From the southern side on can see Katrabai and Ajoba fort very close. This side has also some fortification left, but most of it is damaged. Climbing up on the northern side, one can see natural orifice (hole in rock, locally called nedhe) in the rock face, mostly made by wind. This orifice is big enough to be seen from base of the fort and can accommodate about 6-7 people at a time. Strong winds can be experienced at this orifice. Climbing down the nedhe to the western end of the fort leads closest to the Khuta pinnacle via tryambak Darwaza.

Details as below:
Vijaydurg or Victory Fort:

The oldest fort on Sindhudurg coast constructed in the regime of Raja Bhoj of shilahar dynasty in 1205 (construction period 1193-1205). The fort was earlier known as "Gheria" as it is situated in the village "Girye". Shivaji Maharaj won this fort from Adilshaha of Bijapur in 1653 and renamed it as “Vijay Durg” as the then Hindu solar ear’s name was “Vijay”. Vijay means Victory.
Sprawling over an area of 48 acres, Vijaydurg, fort of victory, was once seized by the British following a bloody battle. They renamed it Fort Augustus. A dilapidated board at the entrance of the fort relates its history. One of the best views of the fort is from the jetty. The fort stretches out into the sea and a walk inside its precincts is worthwhile. Shivaji added triple rows of huge walls, umpteen towers and spacious inner buildings to it and strengthened it in the 17th century.
Kunkeshwar Temple

Kunkeshwar Temple, an ancient Shiva Temple is located in Kunkeshwar village, 14 Kms from Devgad town. A pristine beach with a very long stretch of seashore and white sand adds to the beauty of temple surroundings. This beautiful temple near beach has alluring architecture with reminiscent of South Indian style of temple architecture. Yadav Kings built this temple in 1100 A. D. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who rejuvenated this temple many times was a frequent visitor to this temple. This temple is also famous as Kashi of South Konkan

Sindhudurga fort:
Huge sea rocks of Malvan has easefully shouldered the responsibility of two Forts Sindhudurg & Padmagad on their broad chest. The name of the fort is given to the Sindhudurg district. Tourist from all over the world visit through out the year to see this Maratha glory. The fort was built with the help of huge rocks on the Kurte Island which amazes people & one appreciates imaginative power of Shivaji. In 1664 shivaji erected this fort on 44 acers of land. In Sindhudurg Fort there is 'Shri Shivarajeshwar temple' of King Shivaji. Also there are temples of Hanuman, Jarimari mandir and Goddess 'Bhavani Temple'. Impressions of shivaji's fingers prints found to be preserved here on one of the wall . Also lies, inside the fort worth seeing temples of Bhavanimata, Shambhu Mahadev, Jirimiri & Mahapurush. All are in good conditions.

Tarkarli Beach

Tarkarli is a narrow stretch of beach with pristine waters, located at the convergence of the Karli River and the Arabian Sea. It is 546 k.m. away from Mumbai, 6 kms. south of Malvan, on the west coast of India. This place has gained prominence because of its transparently clear seas, where on a fairly sunny day, one can see the sea- bed up to a depth of 20 feet. This beach can be rightly called as ‘Queen Beach’ of Sindhudurg.

Snorkeling:

is the practice of swimming on or through a body of water while equipped with a diving mask, a shaped tube called a snorkel, and usually swim-fins.  Use of this equipment allows the snorkeler to observe underwater attractions for extended periods of time with relatively little effort.Snorkeling is a popular recreational activity. The primary appeal is the opportunity to observe underwater life in a natural setting without the complicated equipmentInline image 3

Dear mates, We at Trek Mates India invite you for Trek to Naneghat on Sunday 26th July 2015 (Leaving on Saturday Night, 25th July ’15).

Region :Malshej

Naneghat Pass - This sheer cliff is a well know landmark, very clearly visible from Konkan region as you pass on your way from Kalyan towards Malshej. The walls of this pass jut out from the main range and hence command a magnificent view of the great bend in the Sahyadri. This is a pass, which once in history, enjoyed prime importance. The inscriptions, the steps, the rock-cut rest houses, and the cisterns all point out the historic fact that this route was frequently used as far back as the 1st century B.C. The Naneghat area and the caves are now very popular due to an easy access from Malshej ghat road.

Serving as a trade route for the transport between markets of Kalyan, Nalasopara (Konkan) and Junnar (Plateau) since the times of  Satvahanas, this pass today offers you one of the most enjoyable treks in the vicinity of Mumbai
NaneGhat is situated at about 55 Km from Kalyan. One can reach the base village Vaishakare by boarding the state transport bus passing through MalshejGhat. From Vaishakare it's about 1/2 a hour walk along the road to MalshejGhat to reach the divergence for NaneGhat. ANANDWAN – SOMNATH – SERACH (SHODHGRAM) – HEMALKASA (LOK BIRADARI PRAKALP)

A Tour with a difference – Let’s Visit the Changemakers

Hi mates, we at Trek Mates India would like to invite you to a 4 day tour to visit unique places & amazing people i.e. Anandwan – Somnath – Serach (Shodhgram) – Hemalkasa (Lok Biradari Prakalp) from 1st Oct – 4th Oct 2015

Travelling around, visiting new places, seeing new people & their lives is always a joyful. But when we visit places & meet people whose immense capabilities of in dreaming, creating, and inspiring generations to come. We call them as “Changemakers” of society who has dedicated their lives to upbring & uplift the unforgotten & neglected part of the society.

It’s a reminder that all of us have the power to create and change the world for better overcoming our crib about constraints and difficulties.
We will be visiting 4 such places where we can experience these humbling and inspiring feelings.

1.   Anandwan - was founded in 1948 by Baba Amte to care for the outcast leprosy patients. He developed it into a self-reliant community relying on agriculture, home-based small scale industry units—all run by leprosy patients who have recovered/recovering from their illness. Residents stay as communes, where a cluster of people live together and share resources. There are around seven communes now with over 2,500 people live, making it one of the world’s largest communities of physically challenged people. A community that is bonded by care and love for each other!

2.   Somnath - Baba envisioned Somnath as a village where the cured leprosy patients would live together in a village, which they themselves would set up, using their own resources, blood, sweat and toil.

Somnath is spread across 1300 acres, located in the lust green forests of Tadoba. Situated 54 kilometers north-east of Chandrapur, it is about 100 km south of Anandwan. The heavenly place Somnath is the granary of MSS. It is a village of Gandhi’s dreams with its own bio-diversity, abundant water and a rich culture. Since 1967, Somnath has been serving as a manpower training center and has inspired thousands of youth. A village self-sufficient village – worth a visit.

3.   SEARCH (Shodhgram) - Society for Education, Action and Research in Community Health is a non-government founded in 1985 by a doctor couple, Mr. & Mrs. Bang.

Dr. Abhay  and Dr. Rani Bang are Indian social activists, researchers working in the field of community health. They have revolutionized healthcare for the poorest people in India and have overseen a program that has substantially reduced infant mortality rates in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, one of the most poverty-stricken areas in the world.
