After exploring the Aurangabad and Lonar, the Breakfree bus gears up for another trip down on of the most scenic stretches of Maharashtra - the Konkan!

The Konkan belt comprises scenic beaches, undulating terrain with its distinct red soil, the coconut and beetle nut groves spread all across and also, the little know backwaters of Chiplun which is home to marsh crocodiles!

Join us as we head out on this coastal adventure!

Here's the plan:

The Breakfree Bus will leave from Tata Power, Borivali at 4am on 18th of April and take the Andheri - Bandra - Sion - Chembur - Vashi - Panvel route to join the NH17.

The bus will pass through the scenic country and eventually reach Guhagar at around lunch time. Day 1 and 2 will be reserved for exploring the sights of Guhagar including a climb upto the Gopalgad Fort, visit to a lighthouse nearby a short trek to a river for a dip, a unique blowhole near Hedvi and of course, lots and lots of delicious Konkani food.

Next morning, we will depart for Maldoli backwaters where a boat will take us deep into the Crocodile territory and will give us an up-close and personal look into the lives of these beasts as they bask in the sun by the shore. Post lunch, the bus will turn around and begin our journey to Bombay.

We will reach Bombay by 9-10 in the night on Sunday. An Easter well spent!

The total cost of the trip will be Rs. 4700 inclusive of to and fro travel in Air Conditioned Traveller (Force), Homestay at Guhagar and one Crocodile Safari in the backwaters of Maldoli.


A maximum of 13-15 participants will be allowed on this trip, so kindly confirm your seat at the earliest.

Food charges will be shared among the group.

 Velas is a small village in Ratnagiri district which is famous for the Olive Ridley turtle population that visits the Velas beach every year and lays their eggs.At Velas, turtle conservation movement is undertaken by the villagers. An NGO named Sahyadri Nisargmitra and the villagers committee has taken the initiative to conserve olive ridley turtles by providing protection to their eggs.

Dear Trekkers, nature lovers, photographer- Night Trek to Kothaligad

On demand from the trek lover’s especially in summer vacation a “Night Trek” to Kothaligad.

We निसर्गाच्या पाऊलखुणा.. Have organized a Trek to Kothaligad on 26th and 27th April 2014.

Little information about Kothaligad:-

Kothaligad is a small Fort (3100 ft) situated to the east of Karjat near Karjat-Murbad Road in Maharashtra. It is one of the famous treks in the Karjat area, because of its small height and easy climbing. It is also known as the Fort of Peth because of its vicinity to Peth village at its base.

There is a small temple and large cave at the base and a chimney like tunnel to the top of the fort. This pinnacle is carved from inside forming a staircase reaching the top.

The cave and the temple carvings date back to the 13th century. Not much is known about the history until the 18th century. Then later on, on November 2, 1817, it was recaptured by the Marathas under the leadership of Bapurao who belonged to the generation after Bajirao. It was recaptured by the British, on December 30, 1817, the very next month, under Captain Brooks. The British had the fort till 1862 as an outpost for vigilance on the surrounding valley and the hills all around it.
The locals say that this is not actually a fort but a sort of lighthouse from where the directions were given to know the advancements of the enemy. in fact it can be called a watch tower to keep a vigil on the Mawal area in the greater province of the Marathas. It is absolutely breathtaking to climb and to have a feeling of the engineering marvel being crafted when there were no engineers like today or even no PWD departments as well. only the foresightedness of the Maratha warrior has been behind the development of the watch tower standing atop the small but sturdy hillock. the stone is a single black expanse reaching till the Peth village standing on the fertile soil with abundant natural resources for water and farming.

This fort is surrounded with other forts like Bhimashankar, Rajmachi, Dhak, Sidhhagad and Prabalgad

3. Reach Peth Gav at 4:30 am have rest for half an hour and breakfast.
4. Post breakfast at 5:45 climb atop to visit Pinnacle, caves, enjoy the scenic view from the top.
5. Descend towards Ambivali base village at 9 am.
6. Reach Ambivali village by 12:30 and have Lunch.
7. Post Lunch back to Karjat by local transport at 4:30 on 27th April. 2014

MOUNTAIN MARKS presents the first summer NIGHT trek of 2014 to SARASGADH Fort (Pali region) on the 19th-20th april 2014 by Bus.
Sarasgad is a village situated near Pali in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Pali lies about 10 kilometres East of Nagothane along the Nagothane-Khopoli road..
The village contains Sarasgad Fort, the twin of Sudhagad Fort.It can be identified by its four pinnacles and thus was mainly used as a watch place to check the surrounding region. The construction of the fort is not in good condition but the huge rock steps are something to watch for. There are two routes which lead to the top of this fort from Pali. On the top is the Shiva temple providing an excellent panoramic view of all the mountain ranges surrounding this area. Sudhagad and TailBaila can be easily view from the top of Sarasgad.
This fort height from sea level is 490 meters. There are many caves which were used for soldiers and other purposes because the fort has very little area available on its top. There are around ten tanks carved in rocks. They provide cool water supply throughout the year, which is very important for any fort. Shivaji Maharaj gave 2000 hones (golden coin used as currency during Shivaji Maharaj's time) for repairing the fortifications of this fort. On the way from the south there are 111 steps carved in stone. The door from this side is known as 'Dindi darvaja'.
Schedule:
19th April 2014 : Board bus leave for pali. Reach pali midnight and start trek. Reach plateau Rest for the remaining night time.
20th April 2014 : Wake up Early morning and resume trek uptill the fort. Explore the fort. Descend and reach base village. Freshen up, Lunch and darshan of famous Ballalreshwar ganpati temple.Leave for Mumbai. Reach by 7.00pm approx.

MULUND : IDBI bank ,OPP. MC.DONALDS ,MULUND (W)STATION at 11.00PM.

The Island Sea forts of Khanderi and Underi are located three kms. in the sea near Thal. The two early notices of Khanderi in 1538 of the Portuguese Viceroy Dorn Joao da Castro and 1674 of John Fryer, refer to it as uninhabited island.

In August 1679, Shivaji occupied the islands ant oversaw the construction of a fortification, wall. The British attempted to claim the islands 'for the Crown' and oust Shivaji failed miserably and this was followed by Janjira Siddi to unseat the Marathas but followed suit. All attempts by the British and the Siddi to capture Khanderi - Underi, forts did not fructify till 1750, but finally it was ceded to the British in 1818 "as part of the Peshwa territory". And currently the Khanderi Fort is under Bombay Port trust administration.Permission of the Bombay port trust is necessary to visit the fort by mans of o boat.

In 1687, Light House on the Island was built by the British which still stands. Even today, there is a temple Of Vetal and the Tomb of Daud Pir both of which are worshipped by the local fishermen community.

Khanderi is a fortified island 20 km off the coast of Mumbai. This along with its sister fort Underi formed the major fortification along the Mumbai coast. This was built by Shivaji in 1660 to keep a check on the Siddis at Murud-Janjira fort. However later on it lost its importance. Most of the fort is still intact the most prominent structure is a lighthouse built in 1837. It can only be accessed with the permission of the Bombay Port Trust.

 

Underi (also called Jaidurg) is a fortified island near the mouth of Mumbai harbour south of Prong's Lighthouse. It is a companion fort to Khanderi and currently lies in Raigad district, Maharashtra. These islands of Khanderi and Underi served as one of the landmarks for ships entering Mumbai harbour. Underi is smaller than Khanderi and nearly circular. It was built by Kahim of the Siddis in 1680.

Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is the pristine and unique eco-system situated in the Chandrapur district of the Maharashtra State of India. The Reserve contains some of the best of forest tracks and endowed with rich biodiversity. It is famous for its natural heritage. Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is the second Tiger Reserve in the State. 

Tadoba-Andhari Tiger reserve was created in 1995. The area of the Reserve is 625.40 sq. km. This includes Tadoba National Park, created in 1955 with an area of 116.55 sq. km. and Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary created in 1986 with an area of 508.85 sq. km. The Reserve is constituted with 577.96 sq. km. Reserve Forest, 32.51 sq. km. Protected Forest and 14.93 sq. km. other areas.

Khanderi and Underi are the forts built on two Islands near Thal, very near to Alibaug. The forts still stand proud in the Arabian Sea as they stood against the British and the Siddi in 17th century, and their walls are still intact. We can see the iron canons with cart wheels on Khanderi, which are rarely found in Maharashtra.

Fort History:Khanderi is a fortified island 20 km off the coast of Mumbai. This along with its sister fort Underi formed the major fortification along the Mumbai coast. This was built by Shivaji in 1660 to keep a check on the Siddis at Murud-Janjira fort.

Underi (also called Jaidurg) is a fortified island near the mouth of Mumbai harbour south of Prong's Lighthouse. It is a companion fort to Khanderi and currently lies in Raigad district, Maharashtra.

We travel by private transport (Private Bus)

Spandan Bhramanti in association with Khagol Mandal announces special sky show programme at Neral & Vangani on 26 April 2014. The program starts at 7.00 pm (IST) in the evening and runs up to 5.00 am (IST) next morning. The basic pre-requisite for the programmes is your interest in Astronomy. Our experts will guide you through night sky and will teach you all basics throughout the night. The general outline of the programme is as follows:

BATCH – I: Saguna Baug Farm House, Neral.

ENTRY by Pre-Booked Invitation ONLY

Language of Instructions: ENGLISH

Location and How to reach:

The Saguna Baug farm house site is around 3.5 km from Neral Station. For those coming by train, pick up facility will be available from Neral Station. Ample Car parking space is also available for those who want to report directly.

The site is having all excellent amenities and is a theme area. For participants of this Sky Program, entry will be restricted to the premises marked for Sky show. Entry to other area can be requested to the Farm House Owner and will be at extra cost.

The 4.30 pm train on Karjat route from Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) will take you to Neral at about 6.08 pm. This is a station next to Selu Station.

Meeting place: Outside the Platform No.1 towards Karjat direction, Nr. Nirman Nagari gate.

Train Timings:

CST- Khopoli: 1525 (Dep) : 1705 (Arr)

CST- Karjat: 1630 (Dep) : 1808 (Arr)

BATCH – II: Chavan Farm House, Vangani

Language of Instructions: ENGLISH / MARATHI

The observation site is at a walk able distance from Vangani Railway Station (about 10 minutes’ walk), which is on Central Railway of Mumbai Suburb. The 4.30 pm train on Karjat route from Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) will take you to Vangani at about 6.00 pm. This is a station next to Badlapur Station.

Meeting place: Platform No.1 towards Mumbai direction.

CST- Karjat: 1630 (Dep) : 1800 (Arr)
Thane-Karjat: 1749 (Dep) : 1849 (Arr)

About Sandhan Valley Trek
Sandhan Valley Maharashtra, is also known as Valley of Suspense or Valley of Shadows.It is one of the greatest canyons in the splendid setting of Sahyadri (Western Ghats). The water carved valley is 200 ft deep and about 1.5 KM long. Sandhan valley is located on the western side of the beautiful Bhandardara region, near Samrad village. The valley is surrounded with mighty Alang, Madan and Kulang (Known as AMK- rated as the toughest trek in Sahyadri) Ratangad, Ajoba & Kalsubai (5400 ft. highest peak in Maharashtra) mountain ranges. The brilliant and deep narrow rock floored ravine is located between the two high walls of mountain range. At some places its width is less than 3 ft and at some places sun rays unable to reach the ground which gives it the name Valley of Shadows. Sandhan Valley Rock Patchesare exciting for Trekkers. Sandhan Valley Trek Route is between Medium & Difficult Level.

The water carved valley is 200 ft deep and about 1.5 KM long. Sandhan valley is located on the western side of the beautiful Bhandardara region, near Samrad village. The valley is surrounded with mighty Alang, Madan and Kulang (Known as AMK- rated as the toughest trek in Sahyadri) Ratangad, Ajoba & Kalsubai (5400 ft. highest peak in Maharashtra) mountain ranges. The brilliant and deep narrow rock floored ravine is located between the two high walls of mountain range. At some places its width is less than 3 ft and at some places sun rays unable to reach the ground which gives it the name Valley of Shadows. Sandhan Valley Rock Patchesare exciting for Trekkers. Please carry your personal tea mugs and a small Swiss-knife.
Haversack to put all these things.

P.S.: Please don’t wear floaters or slippers during hiking & STRICTLY wear good shoes or footwear; it’s for your own safety. Carry and wear two pairs of socks to avoid blisters.

1. Smoking and drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited.
2. Trek leader’s decision will be final and binding.
3. TreksandTrails reserves all the right to change/deviate/cancel the plans without prior notice.

5. Sleeveless, low neck, figure hugging shirts/tops not allowed. Short pants till knee length allowed.

About Chanderi:

Chanderi fort is situated in the centre of the Matheran mountain range. What this trek offers to adventure seekers is the final climb to reach the extreme top requires technical assistance, few rock patches and scree makes the approach quiet challenging. It was used as watch tower. The view from the top is awesome we can easily locate Karnala, Prabalgad, Kalawantin, Irshalgad, Manikgad, Peb, Matheran, Nakhind, Navra navri, Tavli etc from the top. 

Trek schedule :
Meeting Point : 10.00pm at Panvel Bus Depot, on 26th April 2014

10.30pm : Travel to Base village via Private transport
11.30pm : Trek Start
02.00am : Reach Caves at the base of the pinnacle
06.00am : Wake up call & Breakfast
07.30am : Start Pinnacle Climb 
10.30am : Reach the Top
11.00am : Start descending from Pinnacle
12.30pm : Back to caves & Lunch
01.30pm : Moving to base. 
03.30pm : Reach Base village
05.30pm : Reach Panvel Tentatively

Do understand that we do not arrange picnics. It follows that if one seeks luxury and absolute comfort then we can hardly help them.

Sa-Hi Trekkers believe in being one with nature and that is possible only when we shed all city slicker attitudes. Of course by that we do not suggest that one should be ready for any kind of nonsense.
Utmost care is taken to ensure safety of the group and care is taken that no one is inconvenienced because of factors within our control.
We do expect our Sa-hi friends to understand group dynamics and leave at home their individuality. They should be prepared to share and care. That makes and all the physical and mental exhaustion forgettable and the trek itself become unforgettable! Trust us on this.
Now some basic codes:
Respect nature.
1) No littering! Carry your own trash. If you are found littering then we will request you to pick it up. Friends, it is really not nice to throw garbage around and it only reflects upon us. Will we do this to our own houses? 
REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLE!
2) Do not disturb the flora and fauna. No making pretty bouquets of grabbed flowers and blooms. No feeding and intimidating birds and other animals. Think how you would feel if someone barges into your house and threatens you. The jungle is THEIR home. So, Capital N O= NO!
3) Remember, the mountain has own mind. Beware and do not make the mistake of taking him for granted. It sounds weird but it’s true. Never take nature as granted.
For your own safety
1) The organizers and you yourself are equally responsible for your safety. We cannot take the blame for injuries or inconveniences arising out of actions outside the organizers instructions and acts of nature.
2) One must understand that the group leader is responsible for the entire group and may have to take some tough decisions at times. If one expects a memorable experience with us then we expect full cooperation and discipline. To sum up, the leader’s decision will be final and binding on all Sahi Trekkers.
3) Finally, the non-arguable part. Smoking and other forms of tobacco use and alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited during trek.

Safety measure is to be followed on strict basis,anybody not following will be discarded on the spot.

Sandhan valley is one of the greatest canyons in the Sahyadri mountain ranges. It is a very good combination of a canyon and a valley. Located in the Nagar district, near the famous fort Ratangad, Sandhan valley is undoubtedly The Valley of Suspense. Walking through the narrow streak of valley with 300 ft rock walls on both the sides is a lifetime experience. Exploring Sandhan valley is always a memorable outing and the Konkankada visit is a sweet cherry on the cake !!

Overnight journey towards village Samrad by Kasara Local  (00: 14 am Slow from CST )

Reach Kasara by 3 am. Proceed to Samrad By Private Jeep.Early morning arrival at Samrad, fresh up and breakfast. By 7:00 am. Start exploring the Sandhan Valley. Experience the thrill as well as natural light & sound show in the valley. Back to Samrad village. Have Lunch and proceed back to Kasara by private jeep. From Kasara Back to Mumbai by Train. Reach Mumbai  by evening 9:30 pm.

Dukes nose is a huge pinnacle which can be seen while travelling between Mumbai and Pune. It’s shape is like a nose or a thumb. The sights from the top are unique and magnificent as one sees a vast landscape and the winding Mumbai Pune Express Highway cutting through the ghats and trains chugging along the tracks.
