Fort Vikatgad or Peb as it is known after the Goddess Pebi, is one of the lesser known attractions of the Matheran region. Often overshadowed by the hill station, this quaint mountain at Neral is home to one of the best climbs that the Sahyadris have to offer. In 2010, on a pilot trip, we experienced how adventurous this hike can be! Same year, we ascended the mountain through the rail tracks but this time, we will hike up from Neral and descend via Dasturi Naka.

The trail passes through some dense vegetation and at places is quite steep, tricky rocky portions have to be surpassed before one comes across a cave followed by a ladder that takes us right to the top. The fort premises are beautiful, offering scenic views of the valleys and peaks of the region including Nakhind, Prabalgad and Kalavantin. The descent is even more exciting as we walk up and down the V-shaped ridge separating Peb with Matheran. Further the trail skirts the mountain edge and then eventually joins the railway tracks of the Neral-Matheran toy train!

Here's the plan.

The Breakfree Bus will leave from Borivali(McDonald's) at 500 AM and proceed on the Western Express Highway passing through Goregaon-Andheri-Bandra(Kalanagar), further it will take the Sion-Chembur-Vashi-Panvel route to eventually join the Karjat road.

We will be very happy to pick you up from any point on the given route.

Cost: Rs. 1000 inclusive of Breakfast, Lunch, Transport and whole lotta fun!

A maximum of 18 participants will be allowed on the trek.

We normally do not accept advance payments and rely on your oral/written confirmation to block seats. Therefore it is advisable that you consult your prior commitments before confirming a seat rather than cancelling/backing out at the last moment much to inconvenience of everybody.

Kindly note:

1. We recommend Action Trekking Shoes; running/gym shoes normally give away to the tough terrain and become useless.

2. Carry at least 2 litres of water with you along with some dry snacks, fruits and a pair of change.

3. Consumption of Alcohol, Narcotic substances and cigarettes is prohibited and may lead to possible expulsion from the trek, and an early expulsion from Natural Habitat.

4. Windcheaters are recommended, avoid carrying umbrellas.
