Trek: Kothaligad(Peth)

Kothaligad is more commonly known as the fort of Peth. The fort is known as Kothaligad, because the way to the highest point of the fort has been carved by digging tunnel like spiral stairs through a single rock (In Marathi Kothala means contents in abdominal cavity, the stairs are cut through the rock as if digging abdomen of the rock ). Peth or kothaligad is a small hiking destination near Karjat.
On reaching the top of the fort, we see caves carved in huge rocks. The first one is the cave of Goddess, besides which is awater cistern and the last one is the auspicious Bhairoba cave. A flat floor and well-sculpted pillars are specialty of the cave. Along the Bhairoba cave, steps are carved leading the pinnacle. From top one can locate Bhimashankar, Siddhagad, Malanggad, Nakhind, Chanderi, Prabalgad, Manikgad, and Matheran.

Here is a list of all the things that we need to carry:
1.A haversack to put in all the things to be carried, so that one has hands free while trekking
2. A bottle of water (1.5 liter)
3. Lunch
4. Camera (Optional)
5. Electoral / Energy powder, 2 lemons, some snacks & biscuits
6. Torch with extra batteries.
7. Personal medicines & 2 plastic bags for weight distribution
8. A good trekking shoes
9. And most important: A sense of adventure
The charges for the trek are Rs. 450/- per head, which includes travelling from Karjat to Karjat, breakfast, Lunch and expertise charges.
