ACCOUNT DETAILS AC Name: Bohemian Adventures AC NO: 34367953806 Bank: SBI BANK Branch: PBB Vasant Vihar, Dehradun IFSC Code: SBIN0004207 Day Trek Details: Harishcnadragad is one of the most mesmerizing treks during the monsoons. For the locals it is a pilgrimage while for the trekkers it is the magnificence that gets the adrenaline flowing. Equidistant from Pune and Mumbai, the location could be reached from Kalyan-Murbad From here we head straight to the base village Khireshwar via Khubi Phata. Harishchandragad is a long trek. We start the trek from the base village and the first point of halt is Tolar Kind. There is a small rock patch that one has to cross here but, there are railings fixed now. After ascending, we come to the plateau region. From here we walk for another 2 hours and reach the temple of Harishchandreshawar- Temple of Lord Shiva. The temple has lots of history to tell. There are caves around the temple and few water tanks. Few distance away there is another shiva temple and the fascinating thing about this temple is that it has been carved out from one huge single rock. Alongside there is a huge cave with water and a 'Shiv Ling' right at the centre. This cave stands on two and a half pillars and the water in this cave is filled up 365 days of the year and is ice cold. Konkada which is India's answer to the grand canyon is a beautiful sport to go to when at Harishchadragad. History of Harishchandragad Let me briefly take you through the history of Harishchandragad. The fort is quiet ancient. Research indicates that the remanants of Microlithic man have been discovered here. The various Puranas ( ancient scriptures) like Matsyapurana, Agnipurana and Skandapurana include many references about Harishchandragad. Its origin is said to have been in the 6th century, during the rule of Kalchuri dynasty. The citadel was built during this era. The various caves probably have been carved out in the 11th century. There are Lord Vishnu idols inside the caves. There are two peaks a top the caves these are Taramati and Rohidas. Great sage Changdev ( one who created the epic 'Tatvasar", used to meditate here in the 14th century. The caves are from the same period. The various constructions on the fort and those existing in the surrounding regions point to the existence of diverse culture here. The carvings on the temple of Nageshwar in Khireshwar village, in the Harishchandreshwar temple and the in the cave of Kedareshwar indicate that the fort belongs to the medieval period, since it is related to shaiva, Shakta or Naath. Later the fort was under the control of Moguls. The Marathas captured it in 1747. (History Source: Wikipedia) The post Harishchandragad appeared first on Mumbai Hikers Network. |
