Posted: 30 Jan 2016 02:32 AM PST TREK TO GORAKHGAD on 21st February 2016. About the Fort:- Gorakhgad is a small fort at Dehri village near Murbad. Named after Saint Goraknath, the fort is at a height of 2150 ft above sea level. It is located in Murbad region, on the extended range of Bhimashankar mountains. No major battle is recorded to have taken place here. Two spectacular pinnacles can be seen from Dehri – the smaller one is Machchindragad and the bigger one Gorakhgad. Route:- From Kalyan (on the Bombay-Pune Main Line) one has to travel to Murbad and further to Narivali or Dehri or Khopiwali. The most common trek routes are from Narivali or Dehri and are quite steep, Barren & marred by lot of scree. We will take an off beat route which goes behind the Gorakhgad massif and emerges in the col betwen Gorakhgad and Macchindra Pinnacle. most part of this route will be thru good forest and thus in shade. While on the way down we will take a different route which goes down to Dehri Village Surroundings:- This fort does not stand alone. Its a trio. Siddhagad, Gorakhgad and Macchindragad are the trio forts with Siddhagad as the biggest among three. The final climb to the pinnacle involves a steep rock patch that leads to a small temple. The top of the rock passes through a bit tough route. Though not a technical climb, it has high exposure. The trek offers a perfect getaway for the city dwellers and the pleasant monsoon showers only add to the rich experience. The gradient of the trek is non strenuous and can be thoroughly enjoyed by those new to trekking.
