Kms. The sanctuary falls under the two divisions, Nagpur Division (Kuhi and Bhiwapur Range) and Bhandara Division (Pauni Range), which are divided along the Maru River that flows close to Bhiwapur and joins the Vainganga River. 150 sq. Kms of forest towards the east of Pauni Nilaj road, provides connectivity to the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve. Troops, Trek Ajoba Mountain, Valmiki ashram-samadhi on 7th Feb. 2016 Grade: Easy Height: 4511 feet Location: Dehane Village, Shahapur, Thane, Maharashtra The Ajoba or Ajaparvat (Grandfather Mountain). one of the best places to trek near Mumbai. The mountain is known to be one of the highest peaks in its range and toughest treks in Maharshtra. Ajoba and its surroundings are very picturesque. Ajoba is famous for the Valmiki rishi ashram where goddess sita was said to be staying after being separated from lord rama. A little ahead of the valmiki ashram is the lav-kush cave. They say Luv-kush's grandfather trained them here, hence the name Ajoba, which is grandfather in Marathi. We can be climbed either from eastern or from western side. The climb from eastern side takes longer time. There is a Valmiki Ashram at half way to the fort. The rest path to the top is said to be risky during monsoon. Near the Ashram, there is a small hut where we can stay. A small water stream provides us with pure water. The way beyond Ashram leads to a rivulet, crossing which we can reach the cave of 'LUV-KUSH'. To reach this spot we have to ascend the way of waterfall for one and half hour. Above this cave there is a precipice called 'Cradle of Sitamai'. In the cave there are the carved "Padukas" or the footprints of Luv and Kush. This precipice is a real challenge for trekkers. The ashram is a sacred place and people from all over Maharashtra come here. There are some carved stones near the ashram, on which some carved idols depict some story.
