Sashakt Bharat' (Strong India) tagline. Lead by Dr. Sandeep Mahind In the past, the bikers have initiated similar rides -from Pune to Panipat in the anniverary year of the Panipat Battle, an eight-state bike ride in the North-East on completing 51 years after the India-China War, 100 bikers to hit 3 states and several coastal villages and forts in the anniversary year of Shivaji's naval force, in a bid to promote alertness against sea invasions among the youth In an interesting -and rather warrior-like -bid to commemo rate the completion of 351 years since Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's iconic naval force was first launched, a group of young bikers from Pune and other parts of the state will be zooming off for a celebratory `ride of a lifetime' on their powerful machines later this month. The ride will traverse the picturesque coasts of three states -Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka -with more than 100 motorbike-bound youths embarking on it from January 30 to February 17. The riders have, significantly, chosen to take no name expect calling themselves `mavalas' (historically, the soldiers of Shivaji's armies). Drive coordinator Sandeep Maind shared . "Till date, our group has undertaken four such bike rides in the past, with the objective of reliving our history and making today's youth aware of their responsibilities to build our nation. This year, the ride will last for 19 days, going along the coastal lines of three states and visiting 73 villages, 31 coastal forts, 20 land forts and right forts inside the sea, surrounded by water." He added, "In the 2611 attacks of 2008, it is common knowledge that the terrorists came into the country via the sea route. Shivaji Maharaj had, in his time, launched a visionary naval base with forces to protect their kingdom from and fight against invaders from the sea. Through our initiative, we plan to take many from the new generation to these iconic forts; every day, we will also host small programmes to involve local youth and cr... Read more
