Valley of Flowers covers a vast expanse of 87.5 sqkms with meadows of endemic alpine flowers and the variety of flora found there. This richly diverse area is also home to rare and endangered animals, including the Asiatic black bear, snow leopard, brown bear and blue sheep. The valley of flowers was declared as National park of Indian in the year 1982 and now it is world heritage site.
In Hindu mythology, the Valley of Flowers is regarded as the place where the gods scattered all the different seeds, and indeed many hundreds of species flourish here. Unfortunately, some ten years ago the local authorities decided to ban grazing in the valley, and the weeds that were kept down by the grazing are now beginning to overtake the other flowers. Nevertheless, flower enthusiasts will still find many interesting species, and the situation of the valley is very impressive
