About RatangadRatan means Jewel in Hindi. This hill fort is indeed jewel in all the hill forts here in Sahyadri. It is located in the district of Ahmednagar and is located about 4255 feet above sea level. It lies in the Ajoba mountain range surrounded by great mountains of Kulang, Alang, Kalsubai, Katarabai, Ajoba and Ghanchakkar. Geographically Ratangad is at the banks of Bhandardara lake of Ahmednagar district. With views of lake and highest mountains in Sahyadris looks very much lost in time. At the base of this fort is ancient Lord Shiva (Amurteshwar) temple. About 1000 years old temple of Lord Shiva, the Amruteshwar Temple at Ratanwadi, is an absolute paragon of high class architectureRatangad has still the remains of fortress with bastions and stone walls. Water cisterns are usually filled with water throughout the year and trekkers use them as water source. Eastern side of the fort has some fortification left, one can see Rani mahal here. From the southern side on can see Katrabai and Ajoba fort very close....Level : MediumHeight : 4255 feet ASL (Approx)Type : Hill Fort----------------------------------------------Duration: One DayCost : Members Rs. 1550/-*ppNon Member Rs. 1650/-*pp-----------------------------------------------Trek Date: 31/12/2015 - 1/01/2016Time : 31  Morning 8 amMeeting Point: Dadar stationMumbai people meeting point Dadar Stationand pune people meeting point kasara Station-------------------------------------------------Cost Includes* ~ kasara to kasara by jeep~ Tea, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and evening refreshment ~Stay CampingCost Excludes* ~ Personal Expenses~ Camera Fees~ Any kind of Insurance~ Personal Car Parking-----------------------------------------------------Things to Do/Carry--------------------------~ Photo Identity Card- Must ~ Water Bottle at list 1-3 liter ~ Torch ~ Camera (Optional), Cell Phone must~ Some ready to eat food. DGA invites you to a trek into the Jewel fort of Sahyadris. The 1200 year old Amruteshwar temple in the base village Ratanwadi is of a great historic significance and architectural marvel. At the beginning of the trek, we approach the fort by walking on flat ground and cross river beds. The trek then enters into forest canopy. One hour into the thick forest will lead us to a series of 5 firmly fitted steel ladders. This is the most exciting part of the trek. We then approach the beautiful caves. From the caves, the trail towards the top is through knee deep grass. On the top of the fort, there is a giant hole called 'needle' in the mountain caused by wind erosion. The view from the top is mesmerising. The Sahyadris giants AMK, Ajobagad, Kalsubai surround Ratangad.
