  Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, which also includes the erstwhile 'Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary' is a 391 sq kms protected area in Chittur taluk in Palakkad district of Kerala. The wildlife sanctuary which had an area of 285 sq kms was established in 1973. It is in the Sungam range of hills between the Anamalai Hills and Nelliampathy Hills. Parambikulam Wildlife sanctuary was declared as part of the Parambikulam Tiger Reserve on February 19, 2010. Including the buffer zone, the tiger reserve has a span of 643.66 sq kms. The Western Ghats, Anamalai Sub-Cluster, including all of Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, is under consideration by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site.   The sanctuary has a rich diversity of animal life including: Mammals 39 species, Amphibians 16 sps; Birds 268 sps; Reptiles 61 sps; Fish 47 sps; Insects 1049 sps and Butterflies 124 sps. This sanctuary is also referred to as the 'state capital for the massive gaur' by wildlife experts. Itinerary: Day 1: Leave for Coimbatore at 23:15 by 11013- Coimbatore Express. Day 2: Train travel. Day 3: Reach Coimbatore at 7:00. Leave for Top Slip. Evening safari in the forest. Day 4: Leave for Parambikulam. Morning and evening safaris in the forest. Day 5: Post morning safari leave for Valparai. Overnight in Valparai. Day 6: Sightseeing and Nature trail in Valparai. Post lunch leave for Coimbatore. Overnight  in Coimbatore. Day 7: Leave for Mumbai at 8:45 by 11014- LTT Express. Day 8: Reach Mumbai at 14:30. Cost: Rs 19,500/- Cost Includes: Travel- 3rd AC railway travel. Non AC road travel.
