Kalsubai is incidentally the tallest peak in Maharashtra. Bhandardhara is well fed by the waters of the Pravara River on which rests the Wilson Dam. The Wilson dam was built in 1910 and having completed a century still stands strong. Wilson dam's reservoir is known as Arthur Lake. Off monsoons one can indulge in boat rides in the lake. Bhandardhara is much sought in monsoon for its captivating beauty. The dam water released makes for two gigantic waterfalls, one, the "Umbrella falls" and second unnamed waterfall from the dam spillway. The Randha falls is very well known and much visited. Albeit in monsoons the way to Randha falls is cut off due to heavy flooding. The pastoral landscapes have many gifted waterfalls and drop dead landscapes. The Amruteshwar temple is an age old temple and still stands elegant after 1000 years. Amruteshwar temple is built in hemadpanti style. For reaching Amruteshwar temple, one can drive down or take a ferry ride from Bhandardhara. DCP Expeditions team is organizing a photography workshop at Bhandardara, as a part of its popular project ‘Maharashtra Unplugged’.. ITINERARY Day 1 Our journey starts early morning. The pick up is from Dadar at 5 am. Subsequent pickup points include Ghatkopar, Mulund, Thane, Teen hath Naka. We will have breakfast on our way to Kasara. We should reach Bhandardara by lunch time via Igatpuri. After reaching, check in dormitory and take some rest. Visit the surrounding waterfalls post noon.
