The name Irshalgad itself ia a misnomer; Irshal is not a fort but a pinnacle. This is the reason why it hardly figures anywhere in history. Shivaji Maharaj captured the vomplete region of Kalyan and Bhiwandi, up to Rairi in May 1666. This fort too, must have come under the Maratha rule at that time. Posted: 27 Aug 2015 07:55 AM PDT Tattva Adventure's One Day Flower Special Trek to Ratangad on 13th Sept 2015.(Leaving 12th Sept night on Saturday) Some information about the place:Type: Hill FortGrade: MediumEndurance Level: MediumHeight: apprx. 4255 ft.Base Village: Ratanwadi Ratan means Jewel in Hindi. This hill fort is indeed jewel in all the hill forts here in Sahyadri. It is located in the district of Ahmednagar and is located about 4255 feet above sea level. It lies in the Ajoba mountain range surrounded by great mountains of Kulang, Alang, Kalsubai, Katarabai, Ajoba and Ghanchakkar. Geographically Ratangad is at the banks of Bhandardara lake of Ahmednagar district. With views of lake and highest mountains in Sahyadris looks very much lost in time At the base of this fort is ancient Lord Shiva (Amurteshwar) temple. About 1000 years old temple of Lord Shiva, the Amruteshwar Temple at Ratanwadi, is an absolute paragon of high class architecture of our ancestors. Ratangad has still the remains of fort with bastions and stone walls. Cave on the top is cut from the rock face and can easily accomodate 25 people at a time. Water cisterns are usually filled with water throughout the year and trekkers use them as water source. Eastern side of the fort has some fortification left, one can see Rani mahal here. From the southern side on can see Katrabai and Ajoba fort very close. This side has also some fortification left, but most of it is damaged. Climbing up on the northern side, one can see natural orifice (hole in rock, locally called nedhe) in the rock face, mostly made by wind. This orifice is big enough to be seen from base of the fort and can accommodate about 6-7 people at a time. Strong winds can be experienced at this orifice. Climbing down the nedhe to the western end of the fort leads closest to the Khuta pinnacle via tryambak Darwaza. 'Kalsubai' temple is located at the top most peak of Sahyadri mountain range of Maharastra. The main route starts from the village of Bari which is about six km from Bhandardara. The main route to the temple is at small climbing slope . It usually takes three hours to reach the top from Bari. There small huts in this area who could be very helpful in case of any emergency. There are three iron ladders along this route. There is a well near the last iron ladder as one approaches the top but the water is not potable during the summer. The rest of the route is without water, so it is best to fill water bottles in Bari. It is an easy hike, but parts of it are quite steep. Reptiles like lizards and snakes could be spotted sun-bathing during winter mornings near the ladders. The vastly spread out backwaters of Bhandardara attracts ones attention from the top. Posted: 27 Aug 2015 05:04 AM PDT We at Trekking Paradise Invites you all for a thrilling trek to Harihar on 13th Sept Sunday (will start travelling overnight on 12th September Saturday Night from Mumbai.) Please fill the details by clicking on the below link: http://goo.gl/forms/pv3Ku9M2HE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Some Information about the fort: Type: Hill Forts Height: 3500 Feet above MSL (Approx) Grade: Medium District: Nashik Trek Leader : Kunal | Omkar | Suraj Detail about fort: - Harihar fort appears to be rectangular in shape from its base village. It is built on a triangular prism of rock. Its three faces and two edges are absolutely vertical (90 degrees). The third edge towards the west is inclined at an angle of 75 degrees. A one metre wide rocky staircase with niches in it is carved out for ascending & descending the fort. There are 117 steps in all. After you climb the first rocky staircase (main entrance) we walk thru below a overhang with a sheer drop. Again one has to climb a set of steep stairs (with niches), then pass thru a staircase inside the rock (like Peth-kothligad fort) and then reach the top of the fort. The view from the top is excellent. After climbing these steps, we get up to the entrance door. The fort has got a tapering plateau with a raised level in the middle. There is a small temple of Lord Hanuman and Lord Shiva on the plateau. A small pond is there in front of this temple. Water from this pond can be used for drinking. Making headway from here we come across a palace having two rooms in it. 10 to 12 persons can be accommodated in this palace. The itinerary for the trek will be as follows: 12th September, Saturday Night Meeting Point : Dadar @11.00 pm Pickup Point : Thane @11.45 pm Overnight Journey towards harihar base village Reach Base Village by 5 am Rest in the bus till 6am Breakfast at the base village Introduction Round Start Trek by 7.30 am Reach Top by 10.30 am Explore the Fort and Lunch Start D...
