About the Place :
| Type : Hill Fort | Height : 2100 ft | Grade : Medium|
Fort Peb is situated on northeast side of Panvel, on Mumbai-Pune road, at a distance of 3-4 km on west side of Neral. To avoid crowd at hill stations like Matheran, nature lovers must visit the nearby fort Peb. This is the most beautiful one-day trek. The cave on the fort is occupied by disciples of Swami Samarth, a great saint. They have contributed a lot to development on this fort from last ten years. They have managed successfully to keep the cave and the fort clean, and maintained the dignity of the fort.
Near to this cave are meditation caverns, which are underground. These caverns are still in good condition. One has to crawl into these and only one man can enter at one time. In monsoon two of these are filled with water.
On the top we can go by climbing the wall of the fort. This would have been the main entrance. From here we can climb by holding the rods fixed in the rock. The main attraction here is the bastion on the topmost part. This faces the mountain of Matheran. Here we can clearly see the ridge connecting mountains of Matheran and Peb. When we stand here we feel to be at the top of the world.
On the other side of the fort is a temple of a deity. Here is a big cistern. The disciples are constructing a good temple here. We can reside here for some time.
The beautiful waterfall on the way is the main attraction here. Surrounding scenery looks marvelous from the cave in the monsoon. From here we also see the pinnacles of Navara-Navari, Bhatoba and Irshaal, along with forts of Chanderi, Prabalgad and Malanggad and also Nakhind. This trekking is pleasant in all seasons.
Friends, you all are requested to carry packed lunch for the trek as there are no villagers and proper hutments for arranging food, water etc. Also there’s nothing available on top except a mind blowing scenery, beautiful construction of rock-cut steps, thrill of climb & Loads of water. So do carry decent amount of eatables, and personal medicines as required.

Kothaligad is one of the famous forts in Maharashtra located near Karjat and is ideal for a day hike in Monsoon. Join s as we, at Nisarga Bhraman have arranged a one day trek to Kothaligad (Peth Fort) on Sunday, 30th August 2015.
About the Fort –
Height: 3100 Feet above MSL
Grade: Easy +
Region: Karjat
Kothaligad is a small Fort, situated to the east of Karjat near Ambivali village. It is one of the famous treks in the Karjat area and popular amongst travellers because of its small height and easy climbing. It is also known as the Fort of Peth because of its vicinity to Peth village at its base. There is a small temple and large cave at the base and a chimney like tunnel to the top of the fort. This pinnacle is carved from inside and a staircase is hewn out of rocks to reach the top. That is a probable reason the fort is known as Kothligad. Caves on the top were used for storage of ammunition. Many water cisterns, Fortification wall, Craved entrance, Canon, Cave with decorated carvings on pillars and Local Daity Bhairav are situated on the fort. Padargad, Peb, Matheran, Siddhagad, Bhimashankar mountain range can be seen from the fort.
