Short Info: Trek: Chanderi (Waterfall Trek) Date: 02nd Aug 2015.  Region: Karjat-Vangani. Grade: Hard (Min 3 treks Experience Required), Fort Height: 2330 ft. Trek Cost: 400/- Per Person Registered member trek Cost: 350/- Per Person. Trek cost Included traveling from Vangani to Badlapur by Local Vehicle, breakfast & Expertise Charges. Trek cost Not Included: Insurance, Lunch & anything other than mention above. About: Amidst the lush green vegetation surrounding the mountain ranges of Nakhind and Mhasmaal, Chanderi Fort emerges like a masterpiece crafted with nature's best hands. Situated at a height of 2,330 ft, the hill fort, now in ruins, offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area as well as presents one of the toughest trek routes around Mumbai.Although worth mentioning as the jewel in the crown of forts in the district of Raigad, there is no significant history attached to this fort. Near the caves on the fort are visible some remnants of fortification. This is the only sign to designate Chanderi as a fort. Chanderi is famous for water streams and its difficult route. In monsoon route gets thrilling with water flow and tricky. History: In May 1656 Shivaji Maharaj conquered all the territory up to kalyan-Bhivandi-rairi. This was when this fort came under the rule of Marathas. Lack of development, Low water storage areas, absence of significant constructions, limited facilities for people to stay and extremely difficult approach road seems to suggest that rather than a fort, this was possibly a military base. Meeting Point: @Vangani station by 7.20 am People can get into this local (2nd last compartment) or meet directly at Vangni Station. DGA invites you for a trek to the Jewel of Sahyadri - Ratangad fort. It is called the jewel of Sahyadris because Ratangad was personally Shivaji Maharaj's favourite fort and he loved the fort as much as a woman loves jewellery, hence the name. Ratangad trek in monsoon is one of the most beautiful treks in Sahyadris The 1200 year old Amruteshwar temple in the base village Ratanwadi is of a great historic significance and architectural marvel. At the beginning of the trek, we approach the fort by walking on flat ground and cross flowing rivers. The trek then enters into thick forest canopy which will be lush green in monsoon. One hour into the thick forest will lead us to a series of 5 firmly fitted steel ladders. This is the most exciting part of the trek. We then approach the beautiful caves. From the caves, the trail towards the top is through knee deep grass. On the top of the fort, there is a giant hole called 'needle' in the mountain caused by wind erosion. The view from the top is mesmerising. The Sahyadris giants AMK, Ajobagad, Kalsubai surround Ratangad. The beauty of the view in monsoon is indescribable.   Brief Itinerary: 22nd August 2015 19:15 - Catch 19:21 Kasara Fast local train from CST.
