Dear Friends we invite you all for One Day Trek to Kothaligad (Peth) Fort on 26 July 2015 with MumbaiRangers Kothaligad (also called Kotligad or Kothligad) is a small Fort (3100 ft) is situated to the east of Karjat near Karjat-Murbad Road in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is one of the famous treks in the Karjat area, because of its small height and easy climbing. It is also known as the Fort of Peth because of its vicinity to Peth village at its base. There is a small temple and large cave at the base and a chimney like tunnel to the top of the fort.   This pinnacle is carved from inside forming a staircase reaching the top. There is a tank of water at some distance from the cave and another one at the  top of the fort. This tunnel is the high point of the trek, with its funnel like structure and steps along the inside in a steep ascent to the very top. Dear Trekkers, Enjoy the monsoon with us as we have arranged an Overnight Trek to Sagargad Fort & Vanartok Pinnacle on 15th and 16th August (Leaving on 15th Night) History of the fort and about the place:- This fort is said to exist since the Satvahan dynasty. In the books it is mentioned in the Treaty of Purander (1655 AD) where Shivaji  Maharaj gave 33 forts to the Moghuls. It is also said that Sagargard Fort was later given to Angre, the naval chief of the Marathas in return for loyalty against Shahu Chhattrapati of Satara. In the mid-19th century the British took the fort and built retreat homes on it. Vanartok Pinnacle : Its on the southern side of the fort. This Pinnacle is independent of the sagargad plateau.The problem of climbing this pinnacle is that it is not bolted therefore it is dangerous. Region : Alibaug Height : 452mts - 1357ft. Base Village :- Khandale Grade :- Medium. The trek to the top involves surmounting a small rock patch and a ladder. The fort is famous for its caves which are maintained by disciples of Swami Samartha and the meditation chambers carved out from the rock inside the mountain. To get inside the meditation chamber, one has to crawl through a narrow passage in the rock and then climb down into the meditation chamber.
