About the Tour :


Pooram (pronounced [puːɾam]) is an annual festival, which is celebrated in temples dedicated to goddesses Durga or Kali held especially in Valluvanadu area and other adjoining parts of north-central Kerala (Present Palakkad, Thrissur and Malappuram districts) after the summer harvest.

Named as “the most spectacular festival event in the planet” by the UNESCO, Thrissur Pooram called the pooram of all the poorams, is the biggest festival held in the state of Kerala. It is celebrated on the month of “medam” (mid April to mid May) according to the Malayalam Calendar. Thrissur Vadakkunathan Temple is the host temple where the festival is takes place but the pooram is conducted by two other temples, Paramekkavu Bhagavathy and Thiruvambadi Bhagavathy forming the western and eastern group respectively with the presence of other small temples. The two temples conduct the festival in a competitive manner, thus making the festival a grand affair. The festival is well known for its magnificent display of fireworks.

Main Events of the Pooam Festival are:

Madhathil Varayu by Thiruvambady Temple:More than 200 artists participate together and play multiple musical instruments (such as Trumpet, cymbal and other traditional instruments) in harmony. They create a feast of exotic and exquisite music.

Ilanjithara melam by Paramekkavu Temple:Another set of harmonic music, the IIanjithara melam, is played inside the Vadakkunathan temple. The instruments used in this melam are drums, trumpets, pipes and cymbals.

Kudamattam:In this event representives of the temples take part. They exchange colourful and crafted umbrellas, sitting on top of the elephants. More than 50 elephants are used in this festival and they are decorated with decorative golden headdresses, decorative bells, ornaments and umbrellas. The whole procession is a spectacular event of the festival.

Vedikkettu:is a breathtaking display of fireworks. It is held in the early morning after the festival, around the local timing of 2:00 AM. The two temples with their competitive nature burst many innovative and attractive fireworks. The display is a treat to the eyes.

Day-1: Mumbai – Guruvayoor

Day 2- GURUVAYOOR

Guruvayoor is one of the most sacred and important pilgrim centres of Kerala. Its main attraction is the Sree Krishna Temple, considered the Dwaraka of the South. This historic temple is shrouded in mystery. According to belief, the temple is the creation of Guru, the preceptor of the Gods, and Vayu, God of the winds. The eastern NADA is the main entrance to the shrine. In the Chuttambalam (outer enclosure) is the tall 33.5 m high gold platedDwajasthambam (flag-post). There is also a 7 metre high Deepasthambam (pillar of lamps), whose thirteen circular receptacles provide a truly gorgeous spectacle when lit. The square Sreekovil is the sacred sanctum sanctorum of the temple, housing the main deity.Over night stay at Day Guruvayoor hotel.

Day 2- THRISSUR POORAM FESTIVAL Thrissur, the cultural hub of Kerala

Kerala also know as God’s own country for its natural beauty was for centuries known on land of festivals and feasts. The two -century old festivals involve hundreds of decorative elephants lined-up with enthralling performers of chenda-melam [music loved by god], which witnesses thousands of people from various walks of life. The thirty-six-hour event is the mother of all poorams [feast], which is heart throbbing and starts from 06:00 am and ends up at 12 noon next day.Over night stay at hotel near by Trichur (within 10 km range ).

Day 3- COCHIN

After a blissful day and relaxing night getup for your today’s tour.After having your breakfast, check out from the hotel and start your journey.Before leaving Trichur town there is a must visit place for tourist-BIBLE TOWER(Largest Church Tower in Asia).Then proceed for Athirapally waterfalls.In between have a vist to Kauthuka Park which is on the way to the waterfalls.Enjoy the waterfalls and from there your journey continues to the heart of Kerala –COCHIN.Over night stay at Cochin.


Day 4- COCHIN

Today after breakfast you are going to explore the ‘Queen of Arabian Sea’-one of the most important tourist centers in the state. The “Queen of the Arabian sea” is believed to be the finest natural harbor in the world. Ferry rides and cruising around man-made islands with lush green lawns sloping down to the water’s edge fascinating experience.Enjoy the boat ride and sight-seeing for the whole day .Over night stay at Cochin.

Day 5 – COCHIN DROP

Morning enjoy the breakfast and check out from the hotel ,we transfer you to Ernakulam Jn according to your train timing .

Day-6: Cochin – Mumbai

Arrival at Mumbai
