The Himalayan range takes pride of its place in the country and is renowned for its peaks, the world over. However, looking beyond its fascinating skyline, there lays a paradise of avian wonders with over 500 species, nestled amidst the thickets of tall pine and oak trees.
Join Mumbai Travellers and Bike N Hike as they take you to experience two of the most bird-rich areas of the Kumaon region – Sattal for magnificent birding and rewarding photographic junctures with experts. Both these areas have distinct habitats and are home to an array of Himalayan bird species, resident as well as migratory. Sattal, as the name indicates is a cluster of seven interconnected lakes, surrounded by serene and tranquil forests teeming with birds flaunting a generous dash of colors. This tour in fact is more than just a trip but an experience for anyone willing to absorb the essence of the Himalayan birding and explore its abundance.
About the Tour :
Heaven for naturalists, birders and photographers alike, these forests are literally pulsating with life with constant sweet chirping of birds. During this tour, our main focus will be mainly on Birding while capitalising on the umpteen photographic opportunities of wildlife and landscape photography. The mesmerizing avian fauna include a unique assortment of birds where one can spot a variety of Babblers, Tits, Thrushes and Woodpeckers in plenty. Further adding strokes of colors to this enchanting habitat, Rufous-bellied Niltava, Mrs. Gould’s Sunbird, Blue-throated Barbet, Red-billed Leiothrix, Rufous-chinned Laughingthrush, Black-headed Jay, Pink-browed Rosefinch, Chestnut-tailed Minla are just to name a few. It’s also the Raptor season; we may also spot Peregrine Falcon, Mountain Hawk Eagle, Crested Goshawk, Vultures such as Red-headed, Cinereous, Griffon, Slender-billed and their chief the Lammergeier. We will be taking day hikes to explore various locations within this region to maximise our chances of wildlife sightings and broaden the prospects of photography.
This tour is led by Vipul Ramanuj, a wildlife expert and an accomplished wildlife photographer. He will share his extensive knowledge and expertise in avian fauna that will give participants an insight in to the scientific as well as field aspects essential for developing birding skills. Participants will also be guided on the nuances of photography with Vipul sharing some vital practical tips in the field for you to make the most of the opportunities to bring home great images, GBs full.

The When, Where and How to Approach birds for making images will be discussed in the field itself.

An overwhelming experience in the serene Kumaon region, with landscapes that will keep your eyes glued to its vast valleys and wildlife that will leave you enchanted in its awe.

|Outing Schedule :-
Day 1 :
Upon arrival at Kathgodam, we will head straight to Sattal in our own hired vehicles. Check in to our accommodation and after quick freshening up have breakfast. We will have a small orientation session about the habitat, species and how the next days will be like. After the orientation will head out for our first birding session. This will be a warm up session to get acclimatized to how the birding in this region would be like. We will be back in time for lunch and for some rest after. Our post noon time in the field will be depending on the area that we will be covering for birding & photography.
Once we’re back at the base every evening we will discuss the outcome, learning and challenges of the sessions we had during the day.
Day 2:
The next day begins early as we prepare ourselves to explore a different habitat and make the most of the morning light. Our day will be spent covering a newer habitat with chances of sighting additional species of birds, with two birding sessions during the day which will be concluded with a photo-review session back at the base in the evening.
Day 3:
The third day will be more or less the same as the second day.
Day 4:
Today, we will be dedicating pre lunch session for birding and post lunch we will head back to Kathgodam. Take the train towards Delhi and leave back with loaded memory cards
Inclusions:
1. Travel in Non Ac car (Ex Kathgodam)
2. Decent accommodation with hot-cold running water on Twin sharing (Single supplement available at extra cost)
3. All Veg. Meals from Kathgodham to Kathgodam
4.Camera Charges
