About Gorakhgad:
Gorakhgad is a fort that can be done easily in a day. Though not famous for any historical events, Gorakhgad attracts trekkers due to its inviting pinnacles, which offer good opportunities for rock-climbing. This region of Gorakhgad and Machchindragad has a dense forest cover.
Fort Gorakhgad is quite small in size. It was had strategic importance during the reign of Shahaji Raje. However, no major battle is recorded to have taken place here. It was used in Shivaji’s era to patrol the nearby region and was used as a stopover station during the journey to Junnar via Naneghat. Though small in size, there is enough availability water and a lot of space for accommodation. The fort gets its name from Saint Gorakhnath, who performed his “Sadhana” in this place.
Itinerary :
On 6th April
10.00 pm : Meet At Kalyan ST Depot and leave for Murbad
11.30 pm : Catch bus for Base village from Murbad
On 7th April
02.00 am : Start the trek.
05.00 am : Reach at Top, rest in caves on gorakhgad till sunrise.
07.00 am : Explore the fort and Start Descending.
11.30 am : Reach base and Lunch.
12.30 pm : Return Journey
(Timings may vary depending on situtaion)
Things To be Carried Along with:
● A haversack to put in all the things to be carried so that one has hands free while walking.
● Sleeping bag/mat,chaddar/shawl
● Towel/Napkins,Extra pair of clothes.
● Good footwear.(preferably Shoes)
● Torch (Cumplsory).
● Some ready to eat food.
● Water bottle 2 Liters.
● Polythene bag for your garbage. (No plastic littering on the way or in mountains)
● Medicine those if u require usually.
● 2-3 bunch of News-papers.
* Drinking alcohol and smoking strictly not allowed.
* Please avoid wearing jeans which could trouble you while climbing, Prefer track pants.
* We do take utmost care of every member of the group during the event,but still each member will be responsible for his/her own safety and baggage.
* The leader's decision will be final and binding on all.
