Nisarga Bhraman Trek to Raigad 11-12 Oct 2014

Nisarga Bhraman has arranged an overnight trek cum study trip to the Raigad Fort - the capital of Swarajya on 11th and 12th October 2014. 

Grab this opportunity to get detailed information about Historical events and architecture study of monuments on the fort by Shri Sadanand Apte, a well known personality. He is also a traveller and an experienced trekker having keen interest in studing Temple and Caves architecture and Maratha History.


About the place - 

Fort Raigad which served as a capital of Maratha empire, initially known as Rayari and then rebuilt by Chatrapati Shri Shivaji Maharaj, a Hindu Maratha warrior in 16th century. It took 4 years (1670-1674) to build up the fort. Height of the fort is 2830 feet from the sea level and the base village is Raigadwadi or Nijampur situated 22 kms away from Mahad. Palace of Shivaji raje, Residence of their ministry, Nagarkhana, Baajarpeth, Jagadishwar Mandir, Vaadeshwar Mandir, Gangasagar lake, Hatti Talav, Kushavarta Lake, 12 take, Bhavani Tok, Takmak Tok, Hirkani cha Buruj, Maargiri cha Buruj, Khubladha Buruj, Daaru kothar, Shibandi chi Gharti, Maha Darwaja, Wagh Darwaja, Shiv Samadhi are certain places to see on the fort. One can see Forts like Lingana, Konkandiva, Torna, Rajgad, Pratapgad, Madhumakarandgad and Pachad cha Kot from the top of Raigad.

Plan:

Friday, 10th Oct 2014- -
  • Meet at Sanjay Gandhi National Park gate, Borivali at 10:15 pm
  • Travel by private non a/c vehicle towards base of Raigad
  • Pick ups on the way at Goregaon, Sion, Vashi, Kharghar & Panvel

Saturday, 11th Oct 2014 - 

  • Reach base of Raigad at 5:00 am & Freshen up
  • Start the trek at 6:30 am via Nane Darwaja & an old Route to the fort
  • Explore Nane Darwaja, Madar Machi, Buddhist Caves, Mahadarwaja, Margiricha Buruj, Chor Darwaja etc.
  • Reach MTDC Rest House, check in and have Breakfast at 10:00 am
  • Explore Rajwada, Meghdavari, Nagarkhana, Gangasagar lake, Shirkai Mandir etc.
  • Typical village house food for Lunch at 1:30 pm and rest till 3:00 pm
  • Explore Kushavart, Sardar Wade, Wadeshwar Mandir, Wagh Darwaja etc.
  • Enjoy Sunset from Hirkani Buruj and get back to Rest House at 7:30 pm
  • Rest till 9:30 pm followed by Delicious Dinner
  • Night Walk around Rajwada and discussion on Historical events (Optional)
  • Retire for the day to explore more, the next day.
Sunday, 12th Oct 2014 - 
  • Wake up early by 5:00 am and freshen up.
  • Experience first rays of the Sun glorifying forts Rajgad and Torna
  • Morning walk at 6:00 am to the Bhavani Tok – the extreme point on the East side of Raigad.
  • Explore Bhavani Cave, Barataki, Kolim Lake, Chatrapati Shri Shivaji Smarak, Shri Jagadishwar Mandir etc.
  • Breakfast near Jagadishwar Mandir at 9:00 am
  • Explore Takmat Tok, Hujur Bajar, Kalkaicha Khalga etc. 
  • Get back to the Rest House and have Lunch at 12:30 pm
  • Start descending down via Mahadarwaja and Stairs at 1:30 pm
  • Reach base at 3:00 pm
  • Visit the Pachad cha Kot and Jijau Samadhi at Pachad
  • Start return journey by 4:30 pm and reach Mumbai by 10:00 pm approx.


Cost of the event would be Rs. 1750/- Only.

The above mentioned cost includes – 
Transportation by non a/c private vehicle (Borivali to Raigad and back)
2 Breakfast, 2 unlimited veg Lunch and 1 unlimited veg Dinner, Evening Tea
Stay at MTDC in the Dormitory

Here is a list of all the things that need to be carried for the trek:

1. A haversack to put in all the things to be carried for the event
2. At least 1 set of spare clothes with a towel and napkin
3. Soap and other accompaniments
4. Optional: Camera & something to munch on
5. At least 1 liter of water
6. Personal Medicines required if any
7. Identity Proof

Few rules that we would like people to follow:

1. Alcohol will strictly not be permitted on the trek. Anyone found in possession of the same or consuming it will be expelled from the trek.
2. Smoking will only be permitted after consultation with the Leader and the person will have to move away from the group to smoke.
3. The leader’s decision will be final and binding on all members. No Arguments will be entertained.
4. Each member will be responsible for his/her own safety and baggage.
5. Please do not wear any jewelry or gold chains/rings.
6. Please do not litter, we believe in the saying, “Wherever you go, leave only your footprints and take back only memories”.
