About Dhak plateau:
Hike to Dhak plateau isn’t exactly a difficult one, but can only be recommended if you really like to walk. The first hour or so can seem a bit steep and winding, with the advantage that the climb quickly takes you to a higher altitude with better views and cooler temperatures. The walk crosses forest patches and eventually leads to a seemingly endless plateau and an ancient fort. During the rains, the route seems complicated, as trails sometimes do when visibility is reduced to a cloudy, dream-like whiteout. Walking on the plateau is confined to narrow, mazy green paths separating the vast stretch of silvery, wet paddy fields. Paddy cultivation at a height of 704 meters/2309 feet above sea level is just unimagineable. Paddy cultivations are synonymous with the coastal areas. People on the plateau live with their limited resources and connectivity, but are hospitable and generous. In the monsoon they work in the fields wearing traditional tent-like rain proofing made of thatched bamboo and fibre-weave. Life in the Dhak village is generally cut off from the more urbanised Konkan plains, but villagers here seem to keep contact with other villages in nearby areas such as Rajmachi, which connects Dhak to the Ghats near Lonavala.

The trek is only to the village of Dhak on the plateau, Bahiri caves will not be covered under this event.

The expense includes local transport to and from Karjat, breakfast, evening snacks, tea/coffee and YHAI expertise for the trek. Participants have to carry packed lunch. Participants are required to get Karjat return tickets.
