Monsoon Greetings!!!

Prabalgad is a fort located in between Matheran and Panvel, visible from the Mumbai Pune expressway. The fort is located at an elevation of 2300 feet 15 km east of Panvel city. It is located on a plateau very close to Matheran, but unlike, Prabalgad fort does not have a good source of water supply. It was known as 'Muranjan' until it was taken over and renamed by the Maratha forces under Shivaji's rule. The fort has a sister fort, Irshalgad.
According to the natives of Prabal Machi, in 1658, Shivaji conquered Prabalgad Fort from the Mughals after establishing his powers in the Kalyan-Bhiwandi area. When Shivaji attacked the Fort, the Mughal sardar and fort chief Kesar Singh forced himself and the ladies in the Fort to commit suicide in order to save themselves from the Marathas. However, his mother along with her grandchild hid inside the Fort, fearing Shivaji, but not willing to die. Shivaji, known for his greatness, sent them to their village with true respect and dignity on finding them hidden.
We start our trek from base village "Thakurwadi". The village offers a pleasing view of green hued Prabalgad. By this route we reach Prabal Machi and further to the top after 3 1/2 hrs difficult level trek. On the way, one could possibly sight lots of monsoon flora and fauna. We will reach the top by lunch time. After spending some time (for lunch and rest) we will start our descend. We aim to reach Thakurwadi by 5 pm.
