As its name resembles, this one fort of Maharashtra has stood the test of time; Lohagad or the Iron fort is one of the most intact and preserved forts in Sahyadri ranges. Situated at an altitude of 1033m is one of the prime trekking destinations during the monsoon time, the degree of climb is easy. Bhaje village (base village) is easily accessible via railways/vehicles from Malavli. From Bhaje village it’s an easy 2 to 3 hours hike to Lohagad.
Historically the fort was important to keep a check on trade routes connecting the Deccan plateau to coastal trade points, and has been ruled by many dynasties in consecutive periods. During the Maratha dynasty the fort was restored to a great extent. Later after the Marathas the fort fell down to the British.
The trek is on 13th July.
First pickup is from Dadar at 6.30 am and last pickup will be at Thane at 7.15 am.
We reach Lohagad by 9.30 am.
In between there will be a halt for refreshment and after initial introduction session we’ll start from Bhaje village (Base village) and we’ll reach the fort within maximum four hours.
We’ll explore the fort till 04:00 pm and then start our journey back till the base village.
We leave the base village before 6pm. Bus will return back to Thane by 9 pm.
