This is human made commercial path to connect production rich places Junnar, Paithan, Sangamner, Ahmednagar, Khadki(Aurangabad now)with Kalyan, Danda Rajapuri(Thane now) and Shurparak(Virar-Nalasopara now)the places of export. This place had established 2600 years back during less known Saatwahan royal family ruling over Maharashtra and Karnataka. There is stone inscription seen on inside walls of giant cave with Brahmi language. some statues were there now we found only steps of them. Outside this cave some small caves are found, in a small cave at the top there is Lord Ganesh sculpture. There is many water tanks near main cave, at Ganesh cave and far below at the turns of stone laden steps goes down. Opposite to the Ganesh cave we see the old stone carved giant pot, which believed to store coins received as octroi and toll charges for use of Naneghat pass to transport good.

The whole range of these forts originated during the rule of Satvaahan era. This is clear from the entrances carved out in stone. The fort stands at an important position and most important guard of Naneghat. From here any help to Naneghat could reach in less time. It was under Bahmani control and after that it went to Nizamshah. In 1636, Nizamshahi declined. Shahajiraje rescued Murtiza, the last Nizam from Jivdhan and took with him to the fort of Pemgiri. But he was trapped by Mughals and had to hand him over to them. This was the end of Nizamshahi. In 1818, the British captured all the forts here and destroyed them. Jivdhan too became a victim and the main entrance was destroyed. Even today the marks of those wounds cannot go unnoticed as we climb the fort.
Friends, you all are requested to carry packed lunch for the trek as there are no villagers and proper hutments for arranging food, water etc. Also there's nothing available on top except a mind blowing scenery, beautiful construction of rock-cut steps, thrill of climb & Loads of water. So do carry decent amount of eatables, and personal medicines as required.________________________________________
