Raigad "Fort Raigad is much more than a mere tourist spot. It is a sacred place of pilgrimage, which has left an imprint of the grand vision of Hindavi Swarajya as cherished by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj." Fort Raigad was the capital of the most illustrious Maratha sovereign, nurtured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It is a monument of his prophetic vision of Hindavi Swarajya. This is a preamble prior to your electrifying excursion around Fort Raigad. It has been described by European historians as 'The Gibralter of East'. Various landmarks have lent it the credo of 'Shivtirth'. The holy shrine has become vibrant by the valour, courage and patriotism of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The sheer vertical rock face tearing into the sky above, appears defiant and insurmountable. Dear Trekkers Nature Lovers, Photographers and Adventure freaks, We at B365 have arranged a Trek to Harishchandragad Fort on 13th and 14th June 2015 Brief Introduction about the fort:- Harishchandragad Type: Hill Fort Height: 4500 Feet above MSL (Approx) Grade: Medium but High on Endurance Level Region: Malshej Ghat Base Village: Khireshwar. Harishchandragad :- is the hill fort in ahmednagar district of Maharastra , Remnants of Microlithic man have been discovered here. The various Puranas (ancient scriptures) like Matsyapurana, Agnipurana and Skandapurana include many references about Harishchandragad. The carvings on the temples of Nageshwar (in Khireshwar village), in the Harishchandreshwar temple and in the cave of Kedareshwar indicate that the fort belongs to the medieval period, since it is related to Shaiva, Shakta or Naath. Later the fort was under the control of Moguls. The Marathas captured it in 1747. Kokankada :- The most interesting point on this fort is this cliff, which has always fascinated many people from many years. The cliff faces west and looks down upon the Konkan. From here, one can have a breathtaking view of the surrounding region and the setting sun. This cliff is not just vertical, it is an overhang, almost like a cobra's hood. It has been climbed many times. Sometimes a circular rainbow can be seen from this point. It can be seen only when there is a bit of mist in the valley, and the sun is right behind the person facing the valley. Kedareshwar Temple :- Going rightwards of Harishchandreshwar temple, there is the huge cave of Kedareshwar in which there is a big Shivlinga, which is totally surrounded by water. The total height from its base is five feet, and the water is waist-deep. It is quite difficult to reach the Shivlinga because the water is ice-cold. There are sculptures carved out here. In monsoon it is not possible to reach this cave, as a huge stream flows across the way. Malshej Ghats :- Malshej ghat is situated in Pune distr... Read more

TAT – 2 Days beautiful trip to less crowded beach "Dive agar" on 30th & 31st May 2015. Little info about trip:- Type :- tour/ family trip. Grade : - very easy Fess: - 2000/-  The Adventure Trekkers invites you to amazing, beautiful and less crowded beach "DIVE AGAR". About Dive Agar: - Diveagar (Dive Agar) is a locale in Shrivardhan Taluka, Raigad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra, approximately 170 kilometers south of Mumbai. The area includes a fishing settlement, a beach, a temple, local businesses engaged in coconut and bettle nut tree farming, and some resort businesses such as restaurants, cottage rentals and motels, and six villages (from north to south): Velās, Musalmāndi, Agar Panchaitan, Diveagar, Borlai Panchaitan, and Kārle. The beach, facing the Arabian Sea, is approximately four kilometres long[3] and undeveloped. At the north end of the beach where a small stream enters the ocean there is the fishing settlement, Velas Agar, and some paddy farming, while at the south end there is a sanctuary for migratory seabirds. Nearby, there is a small fishing village, where vendors sell fresh fish, which goes by name of Bharadkhol. The beach is accessible from the Mumbai-Goa highway via Kolad or Karnala. The beach contains a number of suru trees (Casuarina), which are common to coastal Maharashtra. The access to the beach has a dense cover of belu trees, which are otherwise uncommon in the area. Diveagar is a popular beach destination from the nearby towns of Shrivardhan and Harihareshwar. Sand-bubble crabs can be found on the beach and at nearby Harihareshwar one can find dolphins. Some seaturtles still lay their eggs on the beach. Evidences showing more than five hundred year old settlements are found in this region. Since thousand years this village was attacked by the Arabs, the Portuguese and the Mughals. Because of these attacks the whole village was destroyed 3 to 4 times. Mention  the words 'Summer vacations' and the mind immediately conjures up a kaleidoscope of  idyllic images -  long, lazy days in Nana-Nani's house, climbing  mango trees and eating raw mangoes till your teeth squeaked, inventing new games to while away the hours with your cousins, chatting about anything and everything under the sun, badgering Nani to tell you a ghost story that would scare you out of your wits (much to her disapproval)  and then stopping her just when she got to the climax, drinking endless glasses of chilled nimbu-paani or aam panna, taking a long walk in the evening when the sun mellowed down and finally heading  home to gorge on the absolutely delicious chicken curry, prepared local style by your Nani..............no TV, no laptop/ipad/tablet,  no rush of holiday classes, no hobby classes.... just you, your loved ones and your imagination in a picturesque environment.............that allows your mind to connect the dots (the TOI recently carried a piece on why it is important to create some absolutely unstructured free time for children)  ,  unravel and revel in the simplicity and beauty of a life so different from our frenzied existence. And now imagine  all of this being possible (you will, of course, have to bring your own Nani :))   just 2.5 hrs drive from Mumbai.............where Rural Mania is hosting  week-end visits replete with nostalgic moments :  plucking mangoes right off the trees, cycling on  empty roads, loitering by the lake and may be even taking a quick dip, walking up to the fruit orchard,  star gazing in the evenings, may be a camp-fire or a barbecue if you wish, ghost-hunting (for the brave-hearted), a bit of gardening if you are an early riser, sitting beneath the jamun tree and sipping your lemonade.....all the ingredients that go into a relaxing, unforgettable vacation. We are sure you will squeeze in sometime to interact with the children in the village, play games, teach them or learn something from them........... Read more

Mumbai Hikers Community The Blueberry Trails: Wonders of Lahaul and Spiti on July 25, 2015 plus 7 more

Link to Recently Added Events RSS

    Posted: 25 May 2015 01:15 AM PDT
Lahaul-Spiti valley in Himachal is a place of wonder. Spiti in Tibetean means the Middle land as it is located between Tibet and India, and it retains a very strong Buddhist culture. Lahaul is greener and fertile, with a mass of uniform high snowcapped peaks and even glaciers. Rivers of Chanda and Bhaga cut through the mountain ridges thus making it more prone to vegetation. Also it is lower in altitude.Spiti is a high altitude cousin of the same characterized by barren lands, denudated rock faces, hostile roads and bone chilling temperature. However it also boasts of ancient monasteries, not the glossied ones like in Ladakh, but those that have retained their stoic nature housing a treasure trove of ancient flags, thankas and prayer wheels. Quaint villages dot the highway, and landscapes that are a photographer's dream.Spiti Lahaul is also mostly a journey into yourself. Long drives, a hostile landscape all around you and a few good companions should make it a journey you will never ever forget. The trip is designed around exploring this magical land, village walks, monastery trails, bicycle days and slowly soaking in the culture and feel of this magical land in the Himachal.Highlights of the trip will be:1. Camping in the beautiful village of Jispa. Alpine slopes surround you and the Bhaga river flows nearby in all its fury. Spend a day exploring the greens. A picnic on the banks of the Bhaga river. 2. Exploring the highest village in Asia, Komic, situated at 14800ft above sea level. The Komic monastery there is perched atop a hill. Also going for village photo walks and spending the entire day there. 3. Spending a day (and a night) at the mesmerizing Chandertal Lake. Located at 14100ft, its name of the 'lake of the moon' is due to its crescent shape. A 45 minute trek will take us there. 4. Visiting Tabo monastery the oldest monastery in India. Discover the ancient paintings of the Indo-Tibetean art form. 5. Adventures galore. Right from Going past Rohtang, Kunzum ... Read more

The trail to this exotic fort is quite simple. We can reach the top of the pinnacle which is carved from inside forming staircase leading to the top. There is a huge cave, small temple and many water cisterns at the base of the pinnacle.History:The cave and the temple carvings date back to the 13th century. Not much is known about the history until the 18th cent. In 1716, this cave was captured by the British. Then later on, on November 2, 1817, it was recaptured by the Marathas under theleadership of Bapurao who belonged to the generation after Bajirao. It was recaptured by the British, on December 30, 1817, the very next month, under Captain Brooks. The British had the fort till 1862 as an outpost for vigilance on the surrounding valley and the hills all around it.Difficulty level: EasyMeeting Point: Karjat Station @ 6:20 PM on 6th June 2015Trek fees: Rs 850/-Cost includes: Dinner for SaturdayLunch for sundayBreakfast & TeaAccomodation/Tent stay at Peth VillageTravelling from Karjat to the base & back.Safety and other equipments required for the trek.Participants must carry:• 1 liter of water (at least)• Packed Dinner• Bedding/sleeping bags,sweater/windcheater• Extra pair of clothes (optional)• Towel, a napkin, Extra Pair of clothes• Good trekking shoes• Haversack to put all your things, so that your hands are free (avoid sling bags)• Camera (Optional)• Medicines that you require usually. Visit the spectacular waterfall knows as Dudhsagar & Trekking in Jungle in Goa. Dudhsagar is one of the world's most exquisite falls. It lies high up in the Mandovi River's watershed and so are so spectacular during the monsoon season when the falls are transformed into one of the most powerful falls in India. Dudhsagar Falls is listed as India's fifth tallest waterfall and is 227th in the world at 310 m. The water plummets hundreds of meters (over a thousand feet) in large volumes during the rainy monsoon season, forming one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in Goa.There is also a legend associated with this waterfall. It is believed that a beautiful princess lived in the forest (near present day Dudhsagar Falls) in a palace. She loved and enjoyed bathing in a lake nearby and used to drink "sweetened milk" from her "golden jug" after finishing with her bath. One day while enjoying her jug of milk she found herself being watched by a prince, who was standing amongst the trees. Red with embarrassment at her inadequate bathing attire, she poured the jug of milk in front of him to form an improvised curtain to hide her body while the maids rushed to cover her with her dress. It is said that it is that sweetened milk that cascades down the mountain slope as Dudhsagar Falls to this day as a tribute to the virtue and modesty of the princess. This is equally scenic but less popular route. One has to get down at Kuhlem (Collem) railway station and walk towards the falls which is about 11 km away. It normally takes 2–3 hours to reach. The famous photograph of Trains passing through before the waterfalls can be seen in this route and also the complete stretch of the falls will be visible while you hike towards the waterfalls.Itinerary for the trip as below: -Day 1: SaturdayMeeting Point for Mumbai People :Reaching Pune @ 12:40 pm.Mumbai People can also opt for Shivneri Buses and Meet us @ Pune Railway StationMeeting Point for Pune People :Meeting point at Pune Rail... WTA Trek To Valley Of Flowers-Hemkund Sahib Valley Of Flowers: In the lap of nature, the beauty of blossoms that allows one to have a look of a different world on the same planet i.e. 'The World of Flowers'.In this region there are about 500 species of flowers that also makes this World Heritage Site, a pharmaceutical resource. Framed with 6000m mountains located at West Himalayas, in the state well known as 'Devbhoomi' i.e. Uttarakhand; the valley was unknown to the outside world till a British Mountaineer Frank Smythe inadvertently discovered it in 1931. When Smythe and his team lost their way back after the successful expedition which was to scale Mt. Kamet, a peak in Garhwal. Theywere astonished when witnessed the glorious sight of the beautiful blossoms & variety of flora and named the region 'Valley of Flowers' on which Smythe also wrote a book further with the same name. His words 'In all my mountain wandering, I have not seen a more beautiful valley where the human spirit may find repose' adequately substantiate the beauty of this heaven on earth. Shri Hemkund Sahib: Near the famous Valley of flowers there is a well-known Sikh pilgrimage named 'Shri Hem KundSaheb' that gives enormous contentment of ethics & devotion to the thousands of devotees visiting throughout the whole world, every summer. Placed with high altitude lake of around 4329m, surrounded by seven huge mountains that collectively known as HemkundParvat; also close to the lake there is a sacred Gurudwara that stands as the epitome of all principles that constitute Sikh faith. With an incredible naturally made surrounding, the pilgrimage is situated at 15,000 feet above the sea level in Northern India. 'Hemkund' is a Sanskrit word derived from 'Hem' which means 'Snow'& 'Kund' which means 'Bowl'; hence the name suggests itself as the 'Bowl of Snow'. There are various mythologies behind the etymology of the place; as per the DashamGranth, this is the place where Raja Pandu practiced ... Read more

It is divided mainly in two parts, with forts of Basgad, Utvad, hill of Fani, Harihar and Trimbakgad on one part while the forts of Anjaneri and Hargad on the other. Dear Friends we invite you all for Monsoon trek to Kalsubai fort highest peak of Maharashtra on 14th June 15. Kalsubai Peak is the highest peak (1646 meters) of the Sahyadris on the border of Igatpuri Taluka, Nashik district and Akole Taluka, of Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. 'Kalsubai' temple is located at the top most peak of Sahyadri mountain range of Maharastra. The main route starts from the village of Bari which is about six km from Bhandardara. The main route to the temple is at small climbing slope . It usually takes three hours to reach the top from Bari. There small huts in this area who could be very helpful in case of any emergency. There are three iron ladders along this route. There is a well near the last iron ladder as one approaches the top but the water is not potable during the summer. The rest of the route is without water, so it is best to fill water bottles in Bari. It is an easy hike, but parts of it are quite steep. Reptiles like lizards and snakes could be spotted sun-bathing during winter mornings near the ladders. The vastly spread out backwaters of Bhandardara attracts ones attention from the top. To the north of the mountain range forts such as Ramsej, Harihargad, Brahmagiri, Anjaneri, Ghargad, Bahula, Tringalwadi, Kavnai can be seen. To the east one can spot Aundha, Vishramgad, Bitangad, to the west Alang, Madangad, Kulang, Ratangad (south west) and to the south Pabhargad, Ghanchakkar, Harishchandragad can be seen.   Fort infoType: PeakHeight: 5400 Feet above MSL (Approx)Grade: Easy- mediumBase Village: Bari.
